Well how was that for a weekend of results -
Man Utd lose to Blackburn
Chelsea well beaten by Aston Villa :eek:
Swansea hold Spurs
and a last minute winner for Sunderland v Man City

most shocking of all was surely Everton scored a goal :eek::eek: ;):D

btw WBA v Everton was probably the perfect game for anyone with a new years hangover :sleep:

Mancini is an idiot. All of his rivals lose, and he decides to bench his best players. Is there a better reason to START your best team than the chance to pull clear at the top of the table when everybody else has just lost??

I don't get it.

uhh just guessing but maybe the fact that the mancs have a game against liverpool tonight has something to do with it. :p

i was at stoke v villa on boxing day with some family - it was unquestionably the worst, most boring game i've been to in years, and coming from a birmingham fan that really means something.

Also stumbled across this from a 'Have your say' on the BBC Sport website from 2003:

England have masses of promising players, like:

Goalkeepers - Paul Robinson, Chris Kirkland, Robert Green, Richard Wright.

Defenders - Michael Dawson, Rio Ferdinand, Wes Brown, Martin Taylor, Tony Hibbert, James McEvely, Matthew Taylor, Darren Kenton.

Midfielders - Michael Tonge, James Milner, Gareth Barry, David Dunn, Jermaine Pennant, Joe Cole, Matthew Etherington.

Strikers - Neil Mellor, Carlton Cole, Wayne Rooney, Jermaine Defoe, Francis Jeffers.

A squad of these players at 2006 would be in with a chance.
William, England

Amazing

Jones belongs with David Luiz in the category "Good at football, shit at defending, why the **** am I a center back?"

Jones belongs in the "highly rated for no good reason" category. Honestly I've been unimpressed by him as a footballer so far into his career and if he played for anyone but United he would not have any of this hype surrounding him.

Also I think you're miles off with that Luiz comment, he has been Chelseas best defender so far this season. Certainly nowhere near as bad as the media have made him out to be.

United get another decision go there way. Refereeing must be the only profession in the world where you don't seem to be punished for absolutely ridiculous decisions.

To be fair Jones had a pretty promising start but his awful defensive positioning and decision-making has been shown up more and more recently.

Luiz is a bad defender. Seeing as his recent competition at centre-back has been the increasingly awful Terry and various full-backs being played out of position I guess it's not absurd to say he's been Chelsea's best CB but that's really not saying much.

I don't think he is a bad defender as most people make out though. If he was put into Manchester Cities back line I think he'd get alot more credit as he wouldn't be having to cover for the ineptitude surrounding him at Chelsea.

How johnson didn;t get sent off yesterday and the FA turned down Kompanys appeal is beyond me. Shambles of an organisation. It's amazing that these imbeciles get to make decisions that affect a multi billion pound industry.

If the FA or whoever decides that a two-footed tackle is a straight red, no matter where or if contact is made or not, that's OK with me....but the vagueness is the problem. There is no way in my opinion that Kompany should have gone off. A yellow would have been debatable.

I agree with that. Personally I'm of the opinion that neither were a red card. How the FA can turn down a players appeal to have his red card rescinded and then the very next day do nothing about a challenge made in more or less the same fashion is ridiculous. It's either a red card and he is retrospectively punished or Kompanys was not a red card and should have been rescinded. I'm really surprised that City have not pushed the issue harder and asked a hell of a lot more questions. If I was in charge I know I'd be chasing down a reason why and calling them out in public when they inevitably failed to give one.
