1-0 half time.
Tonky, I am actually American, just live here. I think Oezil has a bad habit of over shooting the goal, hes fast and good, but seems to shoot high. But Müller is fkn great. I foresee him being one of the German suprestzars. Hes only 20 ffs, what a player. But I agree with you about Argentina, they have great players, and as slow as they started, they have been steadily picking up the pace. I still say Germany will TID, my prognosis....2-1.

yes,muller may be good but luckily he'll be missing the next match against spain!:)

germany literally shattered argentina - incredible defense and razor sharp counters.

Today both teams played on different levels imo.

Man oh man that was some of the best humble pie ive had in ages! Argentina -GO HOME!!! you were outplayed, outclassed and outscored! thanks for visiting the most beautiful country in the world and we wish you to come back but Germany were the better team today! I'm so sad about Messi not scoring a goal-he really is the best player in the world but Argentina just rely to heavily on him, ffs maradona-quit!

Still I think Spain have to be the favourites now! I hope they dont make me eat humble pie as well!

Argentina have talented players forward but their defence is mediocre.

I think the stadium where Spain and and Paraguay played is the one glorified in the film Invictus.

Germany > Argentina. haha. it should be a good game and Im expecting at least 4 goals in the game-all for Argentina!

Good for Ghana though, because after they beat Uruguay (any wagers?)

If anyone is gonna score for germany its gonna be that little wizard with the speed of a cheetah: Oezil.

Man oh man that was some of the best humble pie ive had in ages!
I'd say you have a few days of leftovers remaining there. (But at least you got the number of goals right.) :p

lol,all u Germans are going crazy over oezil...if u look at his runs and his shots his way too OVERRATED,and Argentina's defense isn't weak!!! it's not the best but it's an okay defense and Argentina's attack will DESTROY Germany's "good" defense ... all the Germans here who are praising muller and oezil...look and learn from Messi, Higuaín, Tévez and Rodríguez....
My oh my, another pie lover. :D

Agree on Özil, though. I think he's overrated. He's good, but not great. And I thought he was pretty bad today. I would've subbed him just after the break - nothing he touched was working. Although I think he somehow managed to set up one of the goals in the end.

At half time I brought out my baking ingredients again! I thought Paraguay wanted it more-spain couldnt string a pass together. It was always gonna take some magic to beat a very determined Paraguay team-so well done to Iniesta. a game full of Drama though. My brother was there and said the first half was boring and quiet and the second half full fo drama-quite funny.

The way Spain played today they would get thrashed by Germany! Especially since Torres is out of touch. But If Spain move into their 6th gear should win the cup but its not gonna be handed to them on a plate. They need to beat 3 very VERY determined teams. Should be more entertaining than I originally thought.

Terrible game tonite, if Spain play like that against Germany, it'll be more like a cricket score than a football match.

Spain have played two of the most defensive teams in their last 2 games. They didn't play well against Paraguay, and are not helped by how poorly Torres is playing. They may need to leave him on the bench for the semi.

Great game by Germany, so fun to see the egoman Maradona crying.

I guess Messi will be the biggest disapoint in worldcup together with C.Ronaldo.

About Spain, can´t expect the game versus Germany will be the same like today, Germany like to play more open and will be more a fight game 1 on 1 with actually football play, Spain play this way today because Paraguay force that type of game.

Still unsure about who will win that one, really tough game.

I think Holland have it easy with Uruguay.

It bites Uruguay is in there. In basketball there is a goal tending rule. Goaltending, pertaining to basketball, is the violation of interfering with the ball when it is on its way to the basket and it is (a) in its downward flight, (b) entirely above the rim and has the possibility of entering the basket, and (c) not touching the rim. Surely, after how many years of football(soccer) have they not made a rule similarly worded for this sport. Maybe, it is intentional and not an oversight, to help keep scores lower than they would otherwise be.

I hear you.

Also think is not really fair, i mean, is understandable when the hand is in the area, if you cut the way of a player or make a fault, in this cases you are close to make the goal but still is not a sure thing, but in this particular case the ball is almost inside and the player intentionally use the hand to get it, he take the red card but what damage do that to his team if is minute 120?.

It was more a punish for the team that suffer the damage that for the team that do the fault, yes they have the penalty chance but again the team that make the fault now have a chance that the other team miss when before it was no chance to miss, so again is not fair.

Maybe the type of game. But Paraguay sure didn't force them to play those terrible passes, horrible crosses, awful set pieces, and shots on goal which any 8 year old would do better. If they don't sort that out they won't beat Germany. Or any other half-decent team. (Except Paraguay. Who, much like Ghana, seemed to be hell-bent on losing for some reason.)

Spain always have the capacity to play great one game and awful the next. Do you remember 1986? Denmark destroyed Uruguay 6-1 and looked like potential winners. Next game, Spain destroyed Denmark 5-1 and they then looked like potential winners - until they went out tamely in the next round.

They have only lost twice in over 2 years/50+ games. I think the game with Germany could be a classic. Far more open than portugal or Paraguay who each put 9-10 men behind the ball and tried to stop Spain from playing. Germany won't play that way.

Having said that, I don't know if I want Spain to win. Germany are a pain in the arse because they ALWAYS do well and we talk about "German efficiency" and make it sound boring, but this German team is far from boring. They play good-looking football. Right now, they have been the best, most attractive team in the competition.

I couldn't see them scoring 4 against England, or again against Argentina, but they did and they deserved to. I am looking forward to seeing them play Spain and if they win that one, I will look forward to seeing them in the final against either of the other semi-finalists.

Definitely the best surprise for me is how well Germany has played and how much I have enjoyed watching them play. I for one will be cheering if they win the World Cup playing this way.

Drogba = Fail
Rooney = Fail
Gerrard = Fail
Ronaldo = BIG Fail
Italy & france = FAIL
Robinhio & Kaka = Fail
Fernando Torres = Fail (so far)

Messi - look good, but no goals :(

Maicon - i didn't know before but looked impressive
Forlan - playing just the way he does every week in Spain (glad you dumped him Fergie? lol :rolleyes::D)
Villa - actually impressed me more than he does for Valencia

The biggest names with the biggest wages seem to have been the least impressive - coincidence? ;)

You can say it's lack of fair play from the players committing this kind of foul, but the punishment is right. The team who was going to score gets a penalty kick and, most of the times, will score any way, the opposing team will play with one man less for the rest of the game and that player will be suspended for at least the next game. This is enough punishment, it makes it only worth it if it's made at the end of the game like in this case, but they can't change the rule just for the last 10 minutes or so.

i doubt we would've conceded the other 3 goals if we didn't come out ruined 2nd half and send the whole team into attack,they knew they shouldn't let the Nazis counter but yet maradona didn't really give a sh*t ...ow well,i'm staying with ARG until brazil, in 2014

Two points:

  1. Argentina totally relied on individual strengths (messi and the like) whereas Germany had a tactic plan which Argentina clearly hadn't.
  2. Tell me a reason why I shouldn't think you're a douche for calling the germans Nazis. (I'm half German half South-african btw - and hasn't SA got a not so distant apartheid history ?):withstupi
