Oh no argument, when they book Rousey-Tate III it'll go the same way as the first two.

And you're right about the way the UFC would try to market Rousey-Cyborg, though personally I suspect they won't go too heavy on the steroids angle. But they'll definitely sell her as a beast of a fighter (she's not actually undefeated - lost her first ever fight). KO power, outstanding record, biggest threat ever to Rousey's belt. As fans who follow the sport closely, we know that all of the above is actually true. I still suspect Rousey wins, but whatever.

But to casual fans and Joe Public? That's the exact same story they were just told, except the name was Cat Zingano, not Cyborg. Rousey just beat that story in 14 seconds. She also beat that story in under two minutes when they told it about Sara McMann. Yes Cyborg is an actual title holder, something the other opponents don't have, but it's in an organisation the casual fan probably hasn't heard of and if they didn't care about McMann's Olympic medal they probably won't care about an Invicta belt.

Tate, on the other hand? She's been on TV a lot. People actually like her. They've heard of her. She's pretty. She does good promo with Rousey. So yes, Rousey-Cyborg would undeniably be the better fight. But I reckon Rousey-Tate would draw more eyeballs...

Then you're saying Ronda doesn't have a relevant fight. That's the only fight I'd pay to see her in right now. Basically zero interest in any of the other "contenders". BTW there are a ton of articles out there saying a Rousey - Cyborg fight will take place within a year. So maybe Ronda has one more joke fight before Cyborg.

Yes, there are always articles and MMA outlets with "inside-information" claiming shit. Cyborg hasn't even shown she can cut to 135. Where would the fight take place? 135, catch-weight or a FW division the UFC don't even have? I'm all for the fight being made and I'm all for the Clubber Lang angle, I just don't think now's the time. Bethe Correia is next in line, then hopefully Holly after another show-case fight. And hopefully Cyborg can get some UFC exposure before then, preferably on a Ronda undercard.

With Holly Holm underwhelming on the weekend I'm absolutely saying Rousey doesn't have any relevant fights - but that's been true for the past couple of years too, and it hasn't stopped the UFC from making fights for her that do OK-but-not-awesome numbers and pushing her as a star. I think they'll stay the course.

If they can make Rousey-Cyborg happen then they probably will. I've read the same articles. And if Floyd-Manny can happen then I guess this can to. I just don't think, if it does happen, that it'll draw many more eyeballs than any of Rousey's previous fights.

It sounds like Zingano will probably get a rematch at some point in the not too distant future, and it'll take a few more fights but unless she actually loses they'll definitely throw Holly Holm to the wolves with Rousey before long too.

Yeah, Holly had an underwhelming outing, was hoping for (but not expecting) one of these finishes:

(How do I embed?)

She was overextending her punches and paying with necessary counters when Pennington started timing her. I wish she would mix up her attacks with a few body kicks too. She still has name value though and an interesting skill-set. They need to match her carefully I they're hoping to set her up for a title fight.

Floyd-Manny should have been done years ago.

Yeah, I like the concept for TUF this season. Should be pretty competitive.

Bethe Correia deserves the title shot, and it's the only logical option and a good stay busy fight. Holm looks like a low risk, low reward fight down the line, but she needs at least one more showcase fight imo. Cyborg can wait.

Its the UFC .. the person who deserves the title shot isn't always the person that gets it. UFC can market Holm as ex Boxing champion vs Current UFC champion. So I can see them going that way instead.

Ain't that the truth. Yes, it's marketable, and I think it's the fight they're looking to make, but it might be a tough sell with Holm coming of a fairly weak split decision debute. Bethe Correia is a good stay busy fight even if it's a squash match. Give Holm a showcase fight meantime and give some new contenders a chance to emerge. No use rushing her to clean out the division.

Cyborg also fought this weekend, a 46 second TKO against Charmaine Tweet. Their first common opponent as far as my knowledge goes. Not loving that stoppage by Herb.

Took Ronda three seconds longer to dispatch her in her second pro fight. Contested at 150 lbs catchweight. ~ 5:40 for fight.

Yeah, we're obviously not as close to the action as he was and he had the best view... but it looks a bit quick from that angle, she was still defending herself and her legs didn't seem to go out or anything. Who knows.

Wow, a lot of comments in the past couple of days.

As a few have said already, it's going to be tough for the UFC to find opponents for Rousey in the future. I wish there were some male fighters out there who would agree to fight her. That might be the only way she'd ever lose.

It was nice to see Tim Means get a win in his new weightclass. He looked a lot more comfortable there. I think he's going to be a real contender there.

Yea, I seen both fights. Cyborg called out Ronda recently.

http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2015/3/2...m-mma-superfight-ufc-mma-news-ufc-184-results

I am not sure if Cyborg can / should even try and make 135. Here she is at 175 less than 48 hours after her last fight.

http://www.mymmanews.com/how-much-does-cris-cyborg-justino-really-weigh/

Also there is a rumor that Cyborg is on her way to the UFC -- The interview is a little hard to hear.

I think the weight cut is definitely one of the biggest questions about the potential for this fight - whether she can make that big of a cut, and what kind of shape she'd be in afterwards even if she did manage it. How much would that take out of her? How would it affect her training, preparation, energy levels? Would she still be the same fighter?

Last thing anyone wants I suspect is for her to try to make the weight and then fail at the last second like Renan Barao did last year...

So I'm betting a unit on Roy Nelson at $2.85. Purely based on his right hand vs Overeem's chin. I mean if Ben Rothwell can knock you out...

Here's one I'm very interested in though: does anyone else think Matt Brown is being underrated as a underdog in the $3.30-$3.60 range? The vast majority of his losses have come by submission, something he doesn't really need to worry about against Johny Hendricks. He's got an outstanding chin as well as the height and reach advantage, and a style that gives him a great chance in a striking battle if this goes to the judges.

Don't get me wrong, Hendricks is obviously no joke. All he may need to do is secure a few takedowns and just lay on Brown. But is his brief run with the belt resulting in him being just a little overrated here?

Ben Rothwell also beat Nelson. They both fought in the former promotion IFL. But it was in 2009 If I remember right.

I like the Nelson bet, I think Nelson is going to get the win via KO. If I didn't bust my roll for the second time in two weeks I would be making a bet on Roy Nelson myself, I still might.

If you are going to bet on Nelson you might want to see what the odds are on Nelson by KO. If he does win that is the most likely way that he does.

I wouldn't place that Matt Brown bet. If I was to bet on him I would only bet a very small amount and put him in a long shot 4-5 fight parlay just as a fun bet with very low risk. But wouldn't expect to win it.

Use your own judgement, anything can happen in MMA.

None of my books have props available on the fight yet unfortunately - got on Nelson at $2.85, figure better get on that than wait for props and have all the prices bet in. I mean seriously, does anyone want to put money on Overeem in that fight getting under $1.50?

Out of interest, why don't you think Brown has a shot to win?

^^^^^^

Just two fight ago Johny Hendricks was the champion. Three fights ago he was fighting G.S.P. ( who is considered the best WW to compete in MMA ) in a fight many think he won. ( not me) Before the G.S.P fight he fought and beat former interim champion Carlos Condit. He is also 1-1 vs. the current champ.

With no disrespect to Matt Brown or anyone he has faced. Hendricks has fought the more elite fighters. Robbie Lawler x 2 , G.S.P , Carlos Condit , Josh Kosheck , John Fitch. And others I haven't named. Matt Brown has some solid wins also and fought some tough fighters But hasn't faced the same competition Hendricks has.

Take a look at each fighters profile.

http://www.ufc.com/fighter/Matt-Brown?id=

http://www.ufc.com/fighter/Johny-Hendricks?id=

Again its MMA and anything can happen. Matt Brown could get the win.

I've got a theory that people tend to overrate fighers who've fought for a belt. Alexander Gustaffson is a prime example.

And I think in Hendricks' case there could be a bit of the same thing going on. GSP was underwhelming in their fight. He needed a bit of lay-and-pray to get by Robbie Lawler the first time, then he lost the rematch. Koscheck was past his prime by the time Hendricks fought him (and Hendricks on managed a split decision in that one).

Brown, on the other hand, has absolutely been in matches against lesser fighters, but aside from Lawler he's been beating whoever was put in front of him, and finishing pretty much all of them to boot.

Like I said, don't get me wrong, it's correct that Hendricks is the favourite. I just don't know that he should be such a huge favourite...

That theory might be right. But Johnny didn't only fight for the title, he won it. How he won doesn't matter. KO .. Decision .. Sub ...they are all wins. And getting the win is what is most important. Anyways my above post is my reasoning for Brown being unlikely to win. Of course as I said in my other post. Anything can happen in MMA. Just a couple events ago All the underdogs won except one.

Here is an article on it - Bovada Loses one million because of it.

http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2015/2/2...loses-one-million-underdog-bets-gambling-news

Best of luck with your bets.

Yeah, but the thing is your haven't actually given any reasons for why you think Brown is unlikely to win - you've just stated (correctly, FWIW) that the level of competition he's faced hasn't been as strong as what Hendricks has faced.

All their past records tell us is that Brown is very capable of beating lesser fighters, and that Hendricks is capable of winning or losing against quality opponents. Brown's record isn't much use to us here, because Hendricks isn't a lesser quality fighter. Brown is a quality fighter, so all Hendricks record tells us is that he might or might not win.

I disagree 100% that it doesn't matter how a fighter gets their wins as well - at least in the context of trying to predict how future fights might pan out, and how different fighters stack up against each other.

Brown has height and reach advantages, a chin and striking defense good enough that he can probably avoid being knocked out, and a style that gives him at least a decent chance with the judges if this is mostly a striking battle. Hendricks also has an outstanding chin, and better wrestling/takedowns. Brown probably has the cardio advantage as well, but this is only a three-round fight so that likely won't be a huge factor.

With all that in mind, I think the relevant questions are can Brown keep the fight standing, will he be able to threaten with submissions if he does get taken down, and will the judges reward Hendricks if he decides to go the lay-and-pray route?

Constantly fighting and beating better competition is a valid reason. Its probably one of the more valid reasons someone could come up with in any fight as to why a certain fighter will win. Level of Competition is important.

Winning is still what matters most overall. But I guess since we are talking about betting on fights. Context of each fight is important to take into consideration.

I also think Brown has the edge in Cardio.

Again good luck with your bet. It doesn't matter to me either way who wins so I hope I am wrong and you win your bet.

I'm taking Brown as well. Unfortunately quite often when I'm betting on UFC fights I'm picking because of how I feel in my heart ... in other words, I'm betting on Brown because I like him & want him to win (& also believe he's capable). I also really enjoy watching Brown's fights. I also think it'd be a good fight to check out with him vs. Lawler & again would bet on Brown in that one.

I placed a very small parlay bet just for fun. Seems appropriate that I post it here.

3 Fight Parlay

Sam Stout +280*
Hendricks wins inside distance +215*
Nelson wins inside distance +215*

$1.17 to win $42.95
