115k Super Satty freeroll
After I got knocked out rather early from the 115k Super Satty freeroll (which isn't anything new, I rarely do well in this tournament), my friend contacted me that he was "on a roll". I kind of rolled my eyes, but then decided to rail him. His name is Tim Matthews, but he isn't on here so can't speak for himself. I watched for hours (normally I'd be bored, but this was phenomenal poker) as he DOMINATED the competition. As it got close to ITM, he was the first player to 500k and basically secured his spot (since the Top 5 advance and there were 8-9 left).
He did, in fact, advance, and as a bonus the two players talking the most sht to him (for no good reason) bubbled at 6 and 7 respectively. As I said, I don't think I've ever won this event and there have been stretches where I would play it every single day since I joined the site in April. He joined much more recently, so I was super stoked for him.
Now comes time for the tournament, and even though it is only $6.60 to enter for a shot at a $200+ prize, there are only 11 people registered. (The 5 of them that satted and 6 others who paid). Now I'm even more stoked for him. He could really use a good shot at his share of 115k. So I'm logged on and watching the table where he is at. It shows he is inactive. I ask him what is going on. Apparently the table isn't loading for him. The tournament page has updated with players, chip changes, etc. and says "Take Your Seat". He
tells me he has hit that button about 1000 times to no avail. At my suggestion, based on my own experience, I suggest he restart his whole computer to see if he can get the tournament feed to properly load. He does this. He gets back to the tournament page. He sees he is bleeding chips. "Take Your Seat" is right there in red. He, again, presses it about 1000x to no avail. He restarts the computer about a billion more times, he tries to take his seat about a million more times and nothing is working.
You can see where this is going, but long story short, someone made a dumb move and busted first, in 11th, and eventually Tim was blinded out in 10th. Because people joined the tournament after the fact, I think the official record states that he finished 17th.
You might be saying to yourself, who cares? What's the big deal? Well, if he was somehow able to continue the run good he was on in the first tourney, I feel confident he would have easily earned the one seat up for grabs. He can't afford the $200+ entry fee and just having a "legitimate shot" at a 115k prize pool could be life changing for him.
I've had good and bad experiences with customer service, but I recommend he try it out. While the tournament is still running, he explains what happened and his dilemna. He is sharing with me what they are saying. At one point they basically called him a liar and was making it up and had simply lost (even though a simple log check would show he was inactive the ENTIRE time because I saw it myself)... Then the suggestion is that because no other players had a problem it was his ISP. Nope, try again. He was all over facebook, gmail and streaming live game info and radio while this was going on waiting for it to fix. There never was a problem with his ISP. They end with a hollow apology and indicate that there is nothing they can (will) do.
Now comes me. I have a pretty significant deposit that I'm making to the site atm because I previously took my funds out when I thought I was going to be without the site for a little while. Now that I have access again, I'm ready to play. I expected it to process today, but it didn't, so I will wait for tomorrow. But I'm pretty pissed for my friend (imagine how pissed he is) that he has next to nothing, takes a longshot on a freeroll, totally dominates it, wins a seat to the satty and then....... NOTHING. OPPORTUNITY GONE.
Assuming my deposit processes tomorrow and I play in the games that I want and see my usual positive results, how am I supposed to feel about the site that just crushed my friend's dreams for no good reason and refused to make good on it at all.
Mr. ACR Rep, do you have anything to say about this? Tourney ID 5413868.
Not a good look, man, not a good look.
