An important detail about Las Vegas is: If the hotel looks too cheap, you can be sure that there are "Resort Fees" hidden.

I haven't taken the high roller observation ride, but I would suggest a night ride when the strip is all lit up, it lasts for 30 minutes, and they have bars in some cars. Also, check out groupon, they have deals for the high roller

Wynn and Luxor

I've stayed at the Wynn 3 times and it is by far the best hotel in my opinion. I base this opinion on the quality of the hotel rooms and facilities.
I walked through nearly all the other hotels and none of them were of the same standard.

The poker room is not as large as some others but there is generally small stakes games I like to play available as well as low stakes tournaments. A great feature is the ability to join the waiting list from the TV monitor in your room. The Wynn is close to the Venetian Poker Room which has a larger pool of games to choose from.

I recently stayed at the Luxor as well and enjoyed my stay there. This hotel is reasonably priced compared to the Wynn. The poker room was not as busy as the Wynn and I managed to play low stakes there often. There was a bigger poker room close by at another hotel on the other side of the strip where there were more tables to choose from.
The facilities were good with nice restaurants and a great pool.

I recommend Imperial Palace, now The Linq. It's right on the center of the strip. Old one, but with very cheep and big rooms. We booked a huge double room for $30 5 years ago. The Wynn, Venetian and Belagio are offering nice live poker cash tables $1/2 or $2/4, where you may meet some cowboys drinking whiskey and having fun.

just left vegas today . I tried about 6 different poker rooms and finished with a modest profit . the best 1/2 no limit game I saw anywhere was at South Coast , about 2 miles south of the strip . I couldn't get a seat of course . try the MGM ; there are generally lots of action players and plenty of tables going . my best wins have been there .

This is actually a great week to be in Vegas - the rooms are at their cheapest. The poker tables don't get as much traffic - but there is still plenty of action, tournament and cash games.

Vegas is awesome...you can make it anything you want. Luxurious and classy...raunchy and cheap...and anywhere in between.

Back when I used to live there, it's been 20 years now, the Rio was the best buffet. I liked playing at the casinos for "locals" around the outskirts of town; off the strip. Like Palace Station and Boulder Station.

Seriously can someone give me a list of "regular" restaurants in Las Vegas. Not the tourist attraction B.S. ones, but the ones with good food and reasonable prices.

Stayed at Mandalay Bay in December. Very, very slow poker room. Closed until 11 am and then only 2-3 tables open most of the day. Nice room, just no action.

If you could narrow it down a bit it would help. What type of food? There are so many really good places out there, but without knowing if you want Mexican, Chinese, American, French, Greasy Spoon Breakfasts???

There is, for example; The Road Kill Grill. It's off-strip. http://johnmullsmeats.com/

Breakfast: Blueberry Hill (on Flamingo) off-strip.

I have only been to Vegas once, but the locals praised this place for breakfast. I was staying on Koval Ln which is one block over from the strip. I walked down there, it was a bit of a shady area on the short walk. Took an uber back, lol. The food was good, typical American fare but the home brewed root beer i had for breakfast was the highlight. http://ellisislandcasino.com/

I live in Minnesota and have never been to Vegas. It is a dream of mine to play live poker there in Vegas. Thanks for sharing all the different places to go or eat at. If I ever go to Vegas I have some idea where to eat or stay or play poker at. Thanks again for this thread.:D

Thanks - but how cheap is cheap?

It is not that cheap to be honest - especially on weekends. The best thing to do is search it and enter your dates and see what comes up. Also don't forget to check the first post in this thread for recommendations.

Harrah's might be cheaper and they have a shuttle to the Rio every 30 minutes or less.
