Also excellent from Alastair Brownlee. I've raced against him before, would be a sick brag if I'd managed to beat him (unfortunately I wasn't even close, 5 mins away over 7 mile run).

The rules and events for track cycling at the Olympics were changed to stop GB being so dominant. Worked a treat that didn't it?

When he couldn't find his normal t-shirt today was pretty funny. Olympic final and having to jump in a loose fitting t-shirt lol.

Well you'd have to be a total slaphead to think there was going to be any other result. auto gimme gold to the multi millionaire team, what a joke.

Sounds a bit like sour grapes to me. Wonder if you have the same level of disgust watching canada's men's hockey team full of multi-millionaires win gold in the winter Olympics? I agree with you, in principle, and wish the Olympics were truely for amatuer athletes, but that's no longer the case; if it ever was.

Pothole's son is a gold medal winner in Curling so I'm fairly certain his views on pros in the Olympics will be consistent.

Well, if that's true and he has an equal level of contempt for all the pro teams/players taking part in the Olympics these days (regardless of nationality) then he has my respect.

Can't wait for 200m final tonight. People aren't giving Blake enough of a chance imo. Loads of people I've spoken to seem to think that Bolt will walk it.

Surely if he walks it - everyone running will beat him? :D

It isn't sour grapes at all. The Olympics were always supposed to be for amatuer sportsmen and women and at one time they were. Years ago athletes could not even accept prize money for winning at various venues, and the money was placed in trust until they either retired or turned pro. Anyone who plays sport for a living should not be allowed to compete irrespective of the sport ( I include sports scholarships offered by Universities which are a form of payment to compete ). My sons team were fortunate to pick up dedicated sponsors over 4 yrs and spent close to $1/2m in that time travelling to compete with the best. When they won their Gold medal in Torino, they received a tad over $100,000 between the 4 of them which could only be used for training and sport related expenses which had to be accounted for. Sure we all want to see the best in the World compete at the Olympics, but when teams or individuals who work full time and earn a living from their sport, compete against teams who might play together once a week or month, it makes a mockery of the winning result.

Pothole, do you realize the basketball competition is not multi-millionaire US professionals versus broke amateurs from the rest of the world? It's multi-millionaire US professionals versus multi-millionaire professionals from the rest of the world. There is not a single amateur playing basketball at olympic level today.

Nicola Adams becomes the first Olympic gold medallist in women's boxing

24th for GB, 7th for Yorkshire which I believe puts our little county back above Lolstralia in the medal table. Not too shabby

Then none of them should be there.:D and fwiw, the worse team in the NBA would thrash any team from any other league in the world.
