I'd be surprised if he did string a couple of wins together - I'll be betting against him against basically any top 15 opponent.

But if they feed him cans who are bad enough (Fedor in Rizin style) I guess anything's possible. What would the point be though?!? Beat a couple of cans, somehow talk his way into a contender's match... and then get crushed again?

It's all well and good to say that Frankie is among the best in the division, but Penn is saying he wants to fight for the belt which would require him to, y'know, actually be able to beat the best fighters in the division.

Aldo. Edgar. Mendes. Holloway. Let alone McGregor. Those fights would all go very badly for Penn IMO.

Not being able to beat one of the best in the division doesn't mean he can't beat any of the top fighters. It is possible that he no longer can, but imo not yet a forgone conclusion.

He wouldn't have to face all those guys you mention. UFC isn't making a 4th Edgar fight. Him and Aldo won't fight each other. B.J. hits hard. Mendes last two losses were back to back and via (T)KO. One to Edgar. Who isn't known for his KO power. It is possible B.J. can KO him.

I would give anyone a chance to beat Conor that has a decent ground game / subs. That includes B.J. He is good ( Conor ) but I still think a more well prepared Mendes would have beat him that night for the belt. I think Edgar is going to dominate him from bell to bell. Think Chael vs Anderson 1 minus the sub.

I haven't seen the video yet but sounds like he just panicked. Dunno what his grappling training has been like but his work on the mat against Pfister seemed... erm... rudimentary at best.

I had to have a bit of a chuckle at all the other fighters saying "Give me his 40/40, I won't tap in that spot!" It's pretty clear the UFC is paying Northcutt for what he can do in and out of the cage. If those other fighters could do what he does outside of the cage, they wouldn't have had to recruit him in the first place :p

I only seen a gif but to me it looked like a reflex tap. But either way a tap is a tap. He is only 19 lots of time to work on things. Kind of funny how some are making fun of the guy. He is 19 and fighting in the UFC. That is a big accomplishment in itself.

In regards to pay. I would be pissed to if I was getting paid a quarter of what a new guy that just came to the company is being paid. But that is how it goes. The more butts you put in the seats, the more money UFC will give you.

I won a 'freebet' in a poker tournament (WillHill site... it sucks me in every time) & is what gets me betting on this stuff in the first place (obviously I spew many more bets than just my 'FreeBet', lol).

Put the FreeBet on Rothwell. 'gg' (kinda annoying the way Mike Goldberg kept calling him 'ROCKwell'.. but then again I've learned to mute most of what Mike says during a fight... guy seems to have uncanny ability talkin' about some dumba55 stats. that nobody gives a fk about, right when some crucial action is taking place in the fight, lol. Wonder if Joe ever feels like back-handing him? They've got a GREAT JOB!).

Also went for my usual 'underdog parlay' and had the first two winners with going against Northcutt, & going with Ben Rothwell but like a greedy (& stupid jka55) I picked Bader. Why did I listen to some of those UFC/MMA shows on the Fight Network... where the bug-eyed guy who pretty much always seems to be manic, is talkin' about Bader having a really great shot at this one. I don't think so (but I did for a moment... the exact moment I placed my final bet, lol). That was like a 27 to 1 parlay (that was never going to happen anyways, lol)

Yeah, it was almost like he forgot he wasn't on the training mat or something. It was really bizarre though. There should have been not physical reason to have to tap from that position.

He's so young that it truly doesn't matter though. Probably better to get the loss now than be built up as another Rousey although with the level of competition he was going to have to eventually face that was going to be impossible anyway.

Was so disappointed in that match.... I don't care what anyone says. I think if they fight 100 times, bader is winning 35-45 of those fights.

Obviously anyone who gets mounted and is getting punched from behind (especially from heavy weights) its lights out. Doesn't matter who it is.

Wish he didn't shoot so early... thats what made me mad.

That Bader fight was only going to go in one of two ways. Bader would of grinded out a boring decision or he would of got KTFO. The latter happened haha

Tito rocked Bader ( flash Ko'd, Baders words ) which lead to a sub. It was only a matter of time before Johnson landed and KO'd Bader. Bader knew he had one chance. Get the take down early in each round and stay on top. He did exactly what he should have, go for the take down right away. It just didn't work out.

Take from it what you want but Sage is claiming he had strep throat. It might affect how fast you would tap if you were in a choke.

I'm not entirely sure I see how... lay 'n pray? Any round that stays standing the majority of the time is Rumble's round to lose, and his wrestling defense isn't that bad. Yes DC was able to wear him down and then ragdoll him but other excellent wrestlers (Phil Davis, for example) haven't been able to pull it off.

Wow - I didn't think he'd actually do it, though it makes a lot of sense. Better sponsorship opportunities and way better title opportunities, given how crowded both the LW and WW title pictures are in the UFC.

Yeah, he'll likely win the Bellatore title in a few fights and make WAY more money.

Bellator has offered Benson a title shot at WW.

According to Dana white Bellator offered more upfront money. And adds some more interesting comments.

"The truth is we made him an offer that would have paid him substantially more – like not even in the same ballpark – than he’s getting now if he were to become world champion again, but he chose their deal, which offered more up front,” White said. “He’s a former world champion who’s ranked No. 15 now. We’re looking for top-5 guys, guys that are going from 15 to 1, not the other way around."

It's not even about the money from the promotion as much as the $$s from sponsorship. Since Reebok has the UFC, and fighters aren't allowed anyone else, their losing a lot of $$s that they had come to rely on.

That is true. And no doubt sponsors + Bellator pay is the better option for non UFC champions and fighters who are not top stars in the UFC.

But like the link says, Benson would have got an amount of money not even in the same ball park as what Bellator is paying him if he were to become champion again, which to me sounds like much more than bellator + sponsor money.

I think Benson plan is to go to Bellator, Win the belt, get some wins, Go back to UFC with a bigger contract. He said in the past that he wants to end his career in the UFC.

I just think he knows he no longer is a title contender in the UFC so he's going to take the $$s he knows he can get while he still can.

First thing about that, I guess, is that you have to believe Dana White is as good as his word. I mean it's not like he's ever made a public statement that he's then gone back on, right? Anyone? Miss Tate, would you like to weigh in on this maybe? :p

Second thing is it's all well and good to say Henderson would make a lot more if he were to become champion again, but that's something that's almost completely outside of his control. He could go on a six-fight win streak and still not be granted a shot at the title, at either welterweight or lightweight. Those are two of the most stacked divisions in the UFC.

If the contract guaranteed that pay bump and a shot at the title then that'd be one thing. But since I'm assuming it didn't, the smart thing is probably to do what he's done - take Bellator's guaranteed money.

What a coincidence, I was just searching whatever happened to Bendo. I knew he was checking his options. Supposedly UFC was 3rd on his selection haha.

THANKS REEBOK! Bellator > ONEFC > UFC was his order of selection.

We can only go by the information we are told. Dana could be telling the truth but also might not be. I would lean towards truth this time since the fighter he is talking about no longer fights for him and would have no reason not to call Dana out on it.

Your second point is correct but most fighters have a confidence about them sometimes to a flaw that they can / will win the belt and be champion. I don't think Benson Henderson had the thought process you are describing. I think he just wanted more up front money. And like mentioned in my previous post, I think his plan is to win the Bellator belt defend a few times and go back to UFC with a bigger contract and likely a number 1 contenders match. Thus making himself the more upfront money and making even more on top of that in his later fights.

I am going to assume the opposite since Dana mentions the title / Benson / money when talking about the offered contract but I am guessing Benson didn't like the number of fights Dana / UFC had in mind and the amount he was to get paid up to the point of winning a title.

unlike GSP, I'm very impressed by Thompson's performance. He destroyed Hendricks, who is a very good fighter.

I think a fight against Demian Maia would be very interesting. BJJ x Karate
