Bronze Level
N'yeah... except Carano isn't even close to being on the same level as Rousey - in or out of the cage.
And while you can say that GSP, Silva and other champions on the men's side of the game are paragons of virtue who sell their fights without resorting to douchebaggery you're conspicuously leaving off the men who do engage in that behaviour.
Jon Jones, who is still the sport's P4P king and still one of its biggest draws, for example. He's a bigger douche than Rousey will ever be. Daniel Cormier has proved he's not below sinking to that level either. Chael Sonnen made a career out of this exact kind of behavour, with the kicker that he couldn't back it up in the ring like Rousey could. Let's not even get started on Conor McGregor, who proves that people do this because it works... hell, even Mighty Mouse is starting to engage in his own tame version of this behaviour because nobody was paying attention to him when he was being polite and respectful to everyone.
And that's before you go back in the sport's history. If you look at the kind of fighters who made the sport big in the first place, and broke the kind of ground for the men's game that Rousey broke for women, you'll find guys like Ken Shamrock and Tito Ortiz who acted like total assclowns, but did what was required to get their fights noticed.
So while I know she's the topic du jour, I don't really understand why you're singling Rousey out. If anything, she's just following the exact template that male fighters have been setting out for over a decade.
I never stated that Ronda Rousey is the only arrogant person in the UFC. There are tons. Diaz brothers, Chael Sonnen, Michael Bisping, Tito Ortiz, etc. It's why it's so satisfying when they get their asses kicked and get heavily humbled down. Carlos Condit and Benson Henderson schooling Diaz brothers easily, Dan Henderson knocking Michael Bisping out, etc have all satisfied me. Anytime they act like douchebags, my mind says "i can't wait till those numbnuts get knocked the f*** out." and when they do, it's so much satisfying.
You can sell fights without acting like a douchebag. It's why I am fan of humble, true champs, such as Jose Aldo, GSP, Anderson Silva, Fedor, Carlos Condit, Chris Weidman, Lyoto Machida, Benson Henderson, BJ Penn, Holly Holm, etc, not some douchebags such as Rousey, Diaz brothers, Chael Sonnen, Bisping, etc.
I however, was a fan of Brock Lesnar because I loved watching him coming from pro wrestling and ground and pound the s*** out of champions while getting revenge on Frank Mir who just loves talking s*** as well although I found it hilarious. Brock Lesnar was an exception bcz it was fun watching him.
I've trained Muay Thai on and off for 5 years but 3 of those years, I've trained it consistently. From my experience of witnessing victors opposed to losers, it's usually the quiet ones who win the fights, which I find it very funny.
