That'd be right actually yeah, late in the second round. That's just awful in so many ways...

If there was a way to bet on the worst fight of the night, I think I'd be happy to take the heavyweight fight on the card pretty much every time.

I am a Frank Mir fan... but as a Mir fan, it's frustrating to see him wishy-washy. Sometimes, he's fantastic in the cage, and really goes out there and trains before the fight and puts on a clinic. The Big Nog and Todd Duffee fights are good examples. Then there's the times that he looks out of shape and like he doesn't even want to be there. Like in the Arlovski and JDS fights.

Before his motorcycle accident years ago, he was always ready to go.

I think it's undeniable that he's worked really hard on his boxing for his past few fights - but if you look at the fights you've mentioned (and others, like the loss to Overeem where he also looked terrible) you'll notice a pattern.

The Bigfoot and Duffee fights didn't go long enough to show that his cardio was terrible. The Arlovski/JDS/Reem ones did.

You'll probably find his training is consistent for each one, and his cardio is consistent (ie: non-existent) for each one too, it's just he's won a couple fast enough for it not to be a factor.

I'm kicking myself for taking under 1.5 rounds in that fight, should have known that a decision snoozer was a big possibility...

I think the majority of the time that fight ends in someone getting KO. I think the real upset / surprise of the night was No-one got KO in that match. If for some reason this fight ever gets made again. I would still think the most likely outcome is a KO with the second most like being AA getting rocked then subbed.

Just for the lulz, here's an analysis of how fights in different weight classes typically end and how long they normally last:

http://thefightpredictor.com/2013/07/20/predicting-method-of-victory-and-round-of-finish/

It was from a little while ago and it doesn't include a comprehensive set of UFC fights, just the ones in their database (which I believe is still pretty extensive).

The fact that they have 66% of heavyweight fights ending by KO is certainly eye opening... but have a look at the average fight duration. It's almost two full rounds. Still the shortest of any of the weight classes, but also over the 1.5 that's often the line for HW fights.

I just think we suffer from selective recall some of the time with this stuff, same as we sometimes do with poker. We tend to remember the first minute knockouts and forget the drawn-out wheeze-fests because... well hell, I dunno about you but I sure don't wanna waste my brain space remembering them :p

5 year suspension for Nick Diaz plus 33 percent of his $500,000 purse. For his failed drug test at UFC 183

What are your thoughts on this ? Too harsh. Not harsh enough. For those that don't know he has failed multiple times before.

http://www.mmafighting.com/2015/9/1...ended-five-years-for-failed-ufc-183-drug-test

Nevada commissioners pointed to Diaz's status as a repeat offender when discussing the severity of their punishment. Diaz tested positive for marijuana use in Nevada in both 2007 and 2012.

That suspension is crap. Apparently they took samples from him 3 times within a few hours (twice before the fight and once right after). 2 of the samples tested (the 1st and 3rd taken) showed no traces of marijuana. Only the middle test with some strange things surrounding it (different lab, not anonymous, and improperly handled by the tester) tested positive. I'm pretty confident this suspension will be overturned on appeal but I guess the Nevada commissioner has a real hard-on for seeing Diaz never fight again (she pushed for a lifetime ban).

I think it's too harsh. I bet IF Jon Jones ever comes back he's not going to be snorting coke before a fight again unless he wants a long suspension.

Yeah that penalty is insane. I know he's tested positive before and I know he's got a somewhat antagonistic relationship with the commission and authority in general, but it's still insane. I certainly hope he appeals and wins, even if he doesn't intend to fight again regardless.

I hope he fights it and wins also but at the same time, this is his third time failing. I was not shocked in the least that they went harsh on him and fully expected them to. He did this to himself.

So in happier news, I bought my tickets to UFC193 yesterday. Good thing they added Stefan Struve to the card, at least there's one fighter who won't look like an ant from where we're sitting :p

Out of interest, anyone know what the normal price range for tickets to a UFC event in America is? I know octagon-side seats are probably crazy expensive, but the "normal" seats?

I might go to the UFC in Seoul Korea. Sounds interesting. Trying to wait and see if I can find cheap tickets.

ban for pot? How fk'n ridiculous. What are they worried about... he's going to eat too much & play video games before the fight?

He should win the appeal; get back in the ring; kick some azz; & then light up a big bat, take a long haul off of it & pass it to Joe Rogan as he answers one of his first questions.

I don't smoke pot (or do any drugs) but hearing of this ridiculous suspension turns me off of watching it in the future.

The punishment does not fit the "crime." Way too harsh. I'm not even a Diaz fan, but he doesn't deserve a 5 year suspension for pot. It's ridiculous!

Range from $50 to $100 per for the "cheap" seats.

Sounds like about what they're charging us, after adjusting for exchange rates. Though I dare say the "cheap seats" at the average event will be a lot closer to the cage than they will be in this place... :p

LOL champion v #8 and champion v #10

How much of a bump up the rankings do people think Holm and Letourneau will mysteriously get between now and fight night? :p

People are stuck on but its only weed. That is not all he is being punished for. He is being punished for not following the rules. Failing drug tests. He has been caught before and been punished. 6 months for the first time .. 1 year for the second. Keep breaking the rules .. expect the book to be thrown at you eventually.

Passing two drug test out of the three still means you failed one. I will admit that could mean the third one is incorrect but it also could mean he tricked two but wasn't able to trick the third for some reason. Either is possible.

If we Agree with it being a banned substance or not ... the fact remains that it is .. He knew this.

All that being said. I hope he gets it over turned so we get to watch him fight again sometime before the next 5 years.

Holy crap, Hall with the win

I spent the better part of a week looking for any excuse to bet on him and I just couldn't find one... then he goes out and does this!

I think Dana was happier than Barnett yesterday. Now he has a reason to kick Roy Nelson out.
