Welcome to 888poker’s XL Eclipse Recap
The 2019 XL Eclipse wrapped up on Sunday night. For the past week and a half, 34 events have played out on 888poker. During that time, 40,003 entries competed throughout the tournaments and $1,729,210 in prize money was awarded.
Winners hailed from all across the world including Belarus, Peru, Lithuania, Costa Rica, Canada, Germany, Finland, Brazil, the UK, Sweden, Russia, Serbia, Romania, Ukraine, Ireland, and even Zimbabwe.
Brazil’s “chiconogue” Wins XL Eclipse Main Event for $57,826.45
The XL Eclipse culminated in the $250 Main Event that offered a $500K GTD, which cruised by the guarantee by attracting 1,647 players who rebought 517 times. The 2,164-entry field resulted in a $508,540 prize pool that was paid out to the top 207 players.
Among those to get a piece of it were “prebzzz” (191st - $559.39), “HomoDeus” (150th - $661.10), “inkhole” (116th - $864.51), and 888poker Ambassador Chris “888Moorman” Moorman (90th - $1,017.08).
According to PokerNews Live Updates of the tournament, Moorman fell in Level 25 (20,000/40,000/5,000) when he got the last of his chips all in preflop holding the K♠Q♦ against the A♥Q♣ of “GusKi14.” The board ran out Q♠6♥8♥5♠A♣ and Moorman took his leave with a profit of $17 given he was in for four bullets!
Others to cash but fall short of making the final table were “Nickelld” (53rd - $1,322.50), “KURDEdersim” (13th - $4,405.51), and “GusKi14” (10th - $4,271.73).
With four players remaining, a deal was struck for the vast majority of the remaining prize money, though some cash and the title were left up top. From there, Brazil’s “chiconogue” eliminated “Lucky_Frutti” and “si1entb0b” in fourth and third place for $33,055 and $46,786 respectively, which allowed him to take a nearly 2:1 chip lead into heads-up play against Germany’s “amaze1.”
From there, the Brazilian pulled out to a 9:1 chip lead before finishing it off just shy of 14 hours in the tournament. In the final hand of the tournament, which took place in Level 38 (500,000/1,000,000/125,000), “amaze1” got his last 8.5 big blinds in preflop holding the 8♦7♦ and was behind the J♦9♦ of “chiconogue.”
The 6♥7♥4♠ flop gave “amaze1” the lead, and he held it through the 4♣ turn. Unfortunately for him, the 9♠ spiked on the river to give “chiconogue” the win and send the German out in second place for $49,751.05.
Belarus’ “k29mario” Nearly Wins Both Mini and Micro Main Events
Meanwhile, the two other “Main Events” played out on Sunday. First was the $33 buy-in Event #33: $50,000 Mini Main Event, which crushed its guarantee by drawing 1,901 players who rebought 720 times. The 2,621-entry field resulted in a $78,630 prize pool and the tournament ended in a three-way deal that saw Ukraine’s “SpielerKind” take the title for $10,886.69, while Russia’s “1sharb” and Belarus’ “k29mario” finished in second and third for $9,552.49 and $8,065.18 respectively.
Finally, the series closed out with the $5.50 buy-in Event #34: $15,000 Micro Main Event, which drew 2,536 players who rebought 1,037 times. The 3,573-entry field created a $17,865 prize pool. The aforementioned “k29mario,” who placed third in the Mini Main Event, finished as the last player standing after 9 hours and 16 minutes. The $2,664.26 top prize meant he had a 484% return on investment.
Finland’s “dmg34” Becomes Captures 2nd Title of Series
One of the biggest stories to come out of the XL Eclipse was that of Finland’s “dmg34,” who became the only two-time winner of the series.
On the first day of this year’s XL Eclipse, he topped a 504-entry field to win the $55 buy-in Event #3: $20,000 Late Opening Event for $4,835.88. One week later, he followed it up with a victory over 468 runners in the $160 buy-in Event #23: $50,000 PKO 8-Max for $6,756.75 and a big bounty prize.
Unfortunately, technical issues resulted in the entire $35,100 bounty prize pool being awarded to the winner. As such, players affected by the error will be credited with correct bounty payouts. The below payouts are prizes not including bounties.
“Mr.Donk69” Wins PKO for Nearly $12K
One of the biggest first-place prizes of the XL Eclipse was awarded in the $109 buy-in Event #20: $50,000 PKO, which drew 471 players who rebought 141 times. The 612-entry field resulted in a $61,200 prize pool that was split equally amongst the regular and bounty pools.
After 8 hours and 40 minutes, Lithuania’s “Mr.Donk69” beat out Sweden’s “Mr_Coyote” in heads-up play to win the title for a $5,814 top prize plus the $6,020.84 progressive bounty for a grand total of $11,834.84.
