So the Senate committee has received all the written submissions and heard live testimony from a range of people and groups yesterday, including the AOPA, online poker players and other pro-online poker groups. By all accounts it went pretty well for us, and the senators involved seemed to be mostly in favour of legalisation and regulation.

They'll now prepare a report, which is due on or before September 21, and we wait and see what happens from there.

The Senate passed the original bill as-is this morning, seems they'll ignore the committee's recommendations (that haven't even been handed in yet) and online poker is going to be banned for the forseeable future.

Bad news for me and all Australian PokerStars players...

I had heard rumours a while back that Australian was going to not let PokerStars available to us.

But according to my mate who came and visited me this morning it's official, he reckons by September this year, bye bye PokerStars.

This news really upsets me greatly I've been playing cards at PokerStars exclusively for at least 15 years, it's a part of my life.

And after September I have to find a new site, and take the risk of it maybe being dodgy. Not to mention having to learn how to use the sight.

This really has me feeling down...

I don't think there banning online poker, just the PokerStars site, apparently it's a federal government thing, probably tax related...

All online poker is being banned, not just PokerStars. In fact, all online poker was already banned, and had been for over a decade. They just hadn't enforced that law until now.

You might get pokerstars Australia.just like the french and the yanks do.

We won't, at least not until there's a change in the law.

They're basically saying that only sites that are licensed in Australia can offer the service to Australian players... but there's no actual licensing process in place. For a local version of any site to come back, the government would first have to create that licensing process.

The same thing happened with portugal a few years ago, on the part of the governor of this country lately is always rolling these rumors if they are doing this with australia may well do with other countries we only hope not to affect those of more countries.
