Oh yeah, we've invented and innovated all sorts of amazing stuff over the years. I'm just saying that when it comes to the internet, we're about as much good as a string bag full of shark farts :p

I'm on the NBN but the morons in office now wont go fibre to the home, I'm getting speeds up to 25mbps but that can slow in peak periods, I can go 100mbps for the same price through iinet but I found that out after I locked in for 2 years with Telstra, I can pay an extra $20 a month for 100mbps but for what I do 25mbps is fast enough.

I meant to put this one in also, this is a game changer for CV joints.

You can use different programs, VPN, etc. ... But what if the poker rooms themselves do not allow players to play, obeying the governments decision?

Read the whole thread and you will find replies about VPN's, If you value your BR and are in Australia you wouldn't use a VPN.

So I say - the government forbids playing, poker rooms prohibit ...

Ladbrokes, Netbet,Coral - I already can not play there ((

I think we've discussed this previously in the thread, but online poker is a tiny market in Australia, we Australians don't pay tax on gambling winnings, and the impact of this (whether it ends up being positive or negative) on live poker is likely to be negligible.

So... as far as we can tell, nobody's making a fortune out of this, nor is it terrible on a large scale for business or the economy. Online poker is just so small here that doing something about it apparently never occurred to anyone.

If/when it's legalised, no doubt the government will make some licensing and taxation revenue from the providers. But it'll be nothing compared to what they make from the online sports betting industries, or the brick and mortar casinos or slot machines.

Not the entire.

Gambling is alive and well entrenched into Australian culture, there will always be outlets to play poker and make bets on sports, we can now bet on lotteries all over the world with prizes exactly the same as the lotteries.

I doubt that ACR, BCP, BOL, SB, ITops and a host of others will still provide an outlet to play on.

888 and Stars imho withdrew so they can get back in when this stupid law is changed and online poker is OK again.

How about this.
We create a virtual world where we create our virtual characters.
In this world our characters can build houses, or pay someone else to build a house for them, (yes there can be virtual jobs in this world).
Of course the sims have leisure time so they might visit the cinema, or a casino where these artificial characters could play poker with other peoples avatars using the artificial world's currency.

But guess what there are such Apps and they are mostly aimed at children, getting them to pay subscriptions to buy virtual clothes for their virtual dolls or look after their virtual pets and they play random games with each other to win 'gemstones'.
So why isn't there any legislation to protect parents from funding this madness?

Edit:
Now I see the question was already answered.
If the AU gov, is anything like the US gov, with a bunch of old farts running the gov, who don't understand, that times change, that would sum it up!

If there were a way to get rid of that predatory garbage from our lives, but it also meant losing online poker, I'd still say yes to it in a heartbeat.

A new twist to the story.

https://www.cardschat.com/forum/pok...ack-australian-parliament-331085/#post3727095

All the Australian Poker Community ever asked for was a ‘chip and a chair’ in their fight to keep the game legal in Australia. It seems that their hard work may have paid off with the door now being pushed back open for online poker to be legalized down under.

A call to hold an inquiry into the online version of the game passed the Australian Senate last week 46 votes to 22.

Any Aussies that haven't yet made their submission to the inquiry, then do so asap.

This gives you the chance to show the Australian Parliament what online poker means to you by making a submission.

Act fast. The deadline for submissions is 21 July 2017.

Go here and follow the prompts, you will have to register on the Australian Parliament website to submit your response.

If you want the chance to keep online poker as we know it then make your submission to parliament.

Do it, do it now.

I made my submission last week.

Gogogo Australian players.

I put on a "The Castle" twist calling them lads and ladies, then addressed it them as the ones in the big leather chairs.

I then went on to seriously explain what online poker means to me and thousands of citizens like me, I went on to say that it would be in the country's best interest to licence the poker sites and reap the tax benefits and keep the public happy, instead of rouge sites ignoring the laws and players still playing and the money goes off shore.

I'm sure that some of the sites we play CC games at will still provide games to us.

Lets hope for the best.

That's depressing, as it's a bit close to home. So sad for all Australian players. I hope our lot (politicians), here in New Zealand, don't follow suit.

That would suck big time [emoji20]

The Trend is that all countries in the near future can take measures to inhibit online gaming sites.
According to many Governments, these sites do not want to regulate rates, preferring to have their stations in tax havens.
Governments also claim that these sites do money laundering, in addition to camouflaging their earnings, for when they pay taxes, are less than due.
What happened in the US, it was only the tip of the iceberg, so much more bad news comes, we can be sure.

Why bans poker I can not explain

OMG that's baaaad. What is the reason though? I don't get it [emoji19]

Just to be clear, this isn't a new ban. Online poker has technically* always been banned here - it's just a law they've never bothered to really enforce until now.

* offering / running online poker games has always been banned - playing in them has never had any penalty attached to it AFAIK.

Wow, this is sad for poker lovers, I hope soon to break this law, poker is a sport of the mind has already been proven, there is nothing of bad luck in it. Ridiculous in the 21st century to see this.
