Playing against your favourite poker pro

I used to play on a site that I can't remember what it was anymore but Mike Caro was on there,
I just played my game at the same time being aware of his presence.
I had his books and studied them and playing with him helped me to improve my game.
It helped me to be aware of the big picture but learn to take the path one table at the time.
I never oogled him or put him on a pedestal, he already knew who he was and why he was there and didn't need to be reminded of that constantly.
I'm pretty sure that he put his pants on one leg at the time the same as me.

I actually have played against two main event champions, Joe Cada and Greg Raymer(twice). I viewed them as just another opponent who wanted my chips, but only better than the rest of the table. I will admit I was more alert at what they were doing and sharpened my game. I felt more honored to be sitting in the same game with them and was not awed by them. BTW. I eliminated both of them from the tournament.

The immediate excitement of sitting at the same table is there. I will try to strike up a conversation and engage them. Maintain focus on leaving a good impression.

Success in poker is 100% psychological.Daniel Negreanu is an example of positive communication. He is always friendly, likes to joke and chat about abstract topics. And, at the same time, he closely watches the players, analyzes their behavior, assessing the strength of their hands.I would ask to take a photo with him.I would touch his chips and try to piss him off.I know that other people's cards and chips are inviolable. No matter what happens, you have no right to touch them.

The question wasnt worded properly , I think . 'make it your (job , duty , goal or object )to take them '...etc . As others have said , I'd try to be friendly initially , but get away if it was a cash game and I was likely to lose . In a tournament format I'd do my best but probably shy away from big pots against the 'pro'.

I would try to keep my cool and play my best against them. I would also closely observe them and try to learn from them. One of the great things about poker is that on any given day, any player can win against the best. I might geek out a little and get a photo with them if there was an opportunity to do so without disrupting the game.

You just have to put yourself in their shoes to understand the situation, because poker professionals are usually just like you and me. And since i'm still seeing the individual in person for the first time, i should act in the same natural way as anyone else.

In the old days FullTilt would send you a shirt if you knocked out 1 of their pros in a tourney. So if your buddies didn't believe you- you could show them the shirt.

Even though I've only played with pros online (not live), it was really cool. Back in the day, it was pretty common to find yourself on a table with a pro when playing on Full Tilt. I knocked out a few and was able to get some "I KO'd a pro" t-shirts.

My favourite player is me. And all that interests and motivates me is the money I can make. I would just try to win the tournament, no matter who is at my table, professionals or beginners
And if a professional asked for an autograph after the game, I would probably give it to him

I would stay cool and show him that I am the better player. In the end, it's just another person who has to cook his lunch with water. He's just had a different and perhaps happier path in his life. But in general, I'm not someone who sees stars as something special.
