Slovenia and Algeria ;).

lol England. For **** sake pass the ball quickly and run at the defense.
Every England attack was basicly, win the ball, wait 30sec for Algeria to line up there defence, play slow balls infront of the defense, lose the ball. Rinse and reapeat.

lol Heskey. Seriously I like him cause he is awsome but he wouldnt make any other team in the tournament and probably not alot of teams that didnt even make the WC.
For **** sake Bent was great this season but gets left in England where as 3goal Heskey is a constant starter?

lol refs today. All tournament long the media has been saying what great refs there have been and today they all messed up.

lol at the karma of the US 3rd beeing called a foul. US should have gotten a red in the 1st min and it was a dive leading up to the goal.
So yeah karma sucks...

Just for the epicness of it I kinda hope Slovenia and Algeria win the last 2 games and KO USA and England(prepars for flaming from all the US and English members ;)).

I am the stage I couldn't care less. Boy, did England get panned today - here's a selection:

"What a load of Roobish!" said the Daily Mirror and added "Cape Clowns".
The Guardian's verdict was: "No spark, no spirit, no hope".
"There can be no excuses, this was as bad as it gets," said the Sun, which had little sympathy for Rooney's complaint about being booed off the pitch by fans at the end of the match.
"Drab, dreary, depressing, disjointed, at times desperate and, overall, dull as ditchwater. Thanks England. No wonder you were booed off the pitch by your own fans last night," the tabloid added.
"Woeful England at point of no return" was the headline in The Times.
"The reign of Fabio Capello which has promised so much for so long came close to ending in ignominy and shame last night," it said.

I don't know why people were so surprised this is fairly typical for England. brazil, argentina and germany will fight for this World Cup not the likes of overhyped, overrated, overpaid England.

Where did you take them from? I find at least 5.50 for Brazil everywhere I look (6.50 in some). Most bookies put Argentina as favorite and Spain still 2nd.

spot on with the bold.

so sad that our footie team cant even beat Algeria

and Rooney moaning that they were booed off, wtf???? what did he want, ticker-tape parade, roses raining down on the pitch, a sacrificial goat? F**K off rooney, man up, and complain about the things that matter, like how you can't play, you idiot.

Meh at overpaid being a criticism, all the big players for all nations, whether it Brazil, Spain, Argentina, whoever, are overpaid and they don't have the same problems

So, if England beats Slovenia and United States beats Algeria next week, who advances?

England & USA would advance then as they would both have 5 pts, Slovenia 4 & Algeria 1

3pts for a win, 1pt for a draw & 0 for a loss :top:

It is days like these i remind myself why i prefer club (Pompey in case you were wondering ;)) over internatonals.

Hype carries everyone so high up and when you find Heskey dragging his big fat sorry ass around and half the team still thinking they are rivals the balloon bursts and the crash results in a major disappointment.

What right do England have to do well in tourneys really?
History -

1966 - World Cup winners (it may have been mentioned)
1990 - WC semi--finals
1996 - European Cup Semi-finals

Actually, the sound is being edited to filter the vuvuzelas. In the stadium it's still the same as in the first games.

If anybody was watching the GHA v AUS game I got a question. When the ball hit the AUS player in the bicep when he was on the goal line, is that still considered a handball or was it just a missed call by the ref?

A handball has to be deliberate. I think Kewell's arm was if anything moving away from the ball so I think it was a poor decision but I'm waiting for a replay and half-time analysis. Shame if it spoils what could be a very good game.

Not asending off offence either

Australia unlucky to lose Kewell as well

In Fifa's Laws of the Game 2005, Law 12 says a free-kick or penalty will be awarded if a player "handles the ball deliberately (except for the goalkeeper within his own penalty area)". Page 67 of the document gives "additional information for referees, assistant referees and fourth officials", adding "Referees are reminded that deliberately handling the ball is normally punished only by a direct free-kick or penalty kick if the offence occurred inside the penalty area. A caution or dismissal is not normally required."

If the handball directly prevents a goal, like in this case, the red card has to be given, it has always been this way.

The question is if Kewell played with his arm deliberately. If he did, the referee did well. If he didn't, the game should just continue.

True as unsporting behaviour preventing a goal but hard to call it deliberate as kewell didn't have a chance to get his arm out of the way.

It's one of those that I'd definitely want as the attacking team, but can argue against as the defending team - I don't think Kewell could get out of the way, but it did hit his arm and it did stop a goal, so I think it had to be a penalty and therefore - according to the laws of the game - it also had to be a red card. Harsh, but hard to see how the ref could make another call.

The other way around, you think Australia wouldn't want a penalty and red card against Ghana?

Anyway, it was Harry Kewell so he was prbably tired after 25 minutes and needed a rest anyway. :D

Interesting World Cup so far though. Two European powerhouses (I use the term loosely) in france and England are vying for most dissappointing team of the tournament, Germany looked strong v Australia, but mortal yesterday. Italy - jury is out. Brazil, similar. Holland look pretty good. Argentina the same. Asian teams have played well, Ghana look strong and have some skill. Spain and portugal have some work to do to overcome disappointing first games.

Anyone's tournament. Even England's if they can beat Slovenia....:p

Talking of which, who remembers 1986 WC? England had 1 point after 2 games and playing like crap. In game 2 we had a lucky break - Bryan Robson got injured (again). In comes Peter Reid to put some bite and basic passing simplicity into midfield. Next game they beat Poland 3-0 and looked good. Won 3-1 in the first knock-out round, also looking strong, then played well in defeat to that cheating bastard/football genius Maradonna in the QF, losing 1-2.

We definitely need to do something different. For me, that has to include NOT playing Heskey, and maybe playing 5 in midfield supporting Rooney up front - Joe Cole, Lennon, Gerrard, Lampard, Barry maybe.....

Spot on!!!

The English fans should be happy. If a team like England has to fight to get through the group stages then they realize the massive fight they have to put up to win the cup. Often when a team just cruizes through the group stages they get too comfortable and only realize theyre fighting for the cup when its too late and theyre on the plane home!

My prediction is that England will beat Slovenia and USA will beat Algeria and both will go through. But England IMO will go very very far---they have some players who are used to coming from behind and have HUGE fight in them-Stevey G!!!! Liverpool beating Inter from 3-0 down in UEFA. With him as their Captain, England still stand a very good chance to win the world cup.

Rooney looks like a school boy out there with his first touches-terrible. Heskey played harder than Rooney did.

That dumbazz ref in the USA game... WTF!!! USA won that 3-2 and I wouldnt be surprised if that ref had money on the game to deny that 3rd goal. Fkn grossssss call. Well played USA, now thats a fighting spirit. They deserved that game they played their hearts out!!!

Germany-what an incredible team spirit as well-they go down to 10 men and still they pull of deffenders for strikers and ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK. huge fighting spirit!

The 3rd games next week are gonna be very exciting because most teams need to win the 3rd game to go through.

Lol France.

They've had Anelka being sent home, apparently Gourcuff eats alone and is hated by Ribery and was hated by Anelka, Ribery is, in general by all accounts meant to be a huge bully, Evra says there's a 'mole' in the group and apparently Domenech was quite open to suggestions made by Evra, Henry, Gallas and Ribery to change the team/formation for the mexico game, until he found where the suggestions came from, a certain Mr Zinedine Zidane. All gossip obviously, but hilarious if there's even any semblance of truth

Cliffs:
- lol France
- lol Domenech

Yes, I remember this. The first two games were terrible. Then we scored three - absolutely amazing - as was hearing Jimmy Hill shouting "ha ha ha" off mike as one of the goals went in. Then we had Diego's hand of God losing to the eventual champs as we have done in 1990, 1996 (euros) and 2002. We never get any luck, remember Southgate(?!?) taking a penalty and Ince just sitting there, and Goofy's freak goal against Seaman.

The midfield apart from Barry was pretty bad against the Algerians. Definitely bring Joe in on the left assuming he's fit, as he brings ball retention and dribbling to the team and really has no fear, and drop Heskey - he just moves and plays like an elephant. I'd have a serious look at Lampard and Rooney in training - they looked absolutely over the top on Friday. If they were up for it, I'd play Rooney and have both Lampard and Gerrard playing off of him when we attack, Barry to anchor the midfield, and tell Lennon/Phillips and Joe Cole to beat their fullbacks. I'd also ease up on the training schedule and look at whatever dietary schedule they're on. Most of them look overtrained and lethargic, e.g Caragher, Terry and Johnson as well as Lampard, so something is definitely wrong there. Then cross my fingers and hope for something completely different from Friday's rubbish.

World cup

Yes, this is it finally, 4 years in the making. World wide stature for one sport!! Any country can win, but most likely a power team will dominate the field. I hope that the referees are better screened next time, since the United states lost a close one, after being down 2-0 at half time, then coming back to tie it 2-2, then having an apparent goal disallowed with no explanation at all from the referee. Other teams my experience this kind of treatment and it might lead their team to not advancing to the next level of competition. Fair is fair, but when something is as obvious as a goal is refuted with no explanation, then something must change to prevent this from happening again....Sendittoken....:(
