This confuses me. Why would you have to support France. I dont have to support Spain. I just choose to. Maybe Iam not understanding your post.
Nah I was just doing some research on my family but not completely serious.

If I had to go back to my great-gradfathers time (and Biancas) I would need to root for:
  • Germany
  • South Africa
  • England
  • France
  • Philippines (lol)
  • Spain
  • Portugal
  • Netherlands
  • Thailand (lol)
I think I'll stick to germany ;).

At least I can say that my family isn't xenophobic (anyone I hated could be a relative, lol)

I guess I will have to keep suporting these because of my family history:
Iceland-obvs.
Denmark-Danish ancestry and have family there.
norway-Norwegian ancestry and have family there.
sweden-Swedish ancestry and have family there.
Faroe-Islands- The Faroes are obvs just drunk Icelanders that didnt make it all the way so they deserve some props for that.
South Africa- My dad grew up there and his sister still lives there.
England- My mom used to live there and my sister whent to school there.
Scotland and ireland- Im decentend from Nordic vikings and there Scotish and Irish slaves.

Cant think of anything else.

Spain looked good to day apart from there complete lack of finishing(surprising since they have the 2best strikers in the world).
I really would have wanted to see Fabregas start instead of Busquet who has shown both with Spain and Barca that despite beeing a decent player he still isnt good enough to play with the best imo.

there is a lot of wrong in this sentence.

wembley - 90k
soccer city - 88k
green point - 64k
other stadiums - less than that

the number of empty seats is just ridiculous and while i can't be bothered to dig up stats to back this up there's no chance that total attendances have been higher than at this stage in any past world cup.

even the usa managed to fill similar-sized stadiums in '94 and nobody there cares about football unless it's played with an egg.

Yeah I've got to say I'm very dissapointed with the attendances. I don't know what the ticket prices are, but they are evidently way out of reach for many South Africans

Hahahaha

Yeah agreed on both points. With Alonso and Sergio, Spain were effectively playing with two defensive midfielders, which seems rather unnecessary

"So far the average attendance has been 53,019 fans per game, compared with 52,167 at the same stage of the 2006 World Cup in Germany", said FIFA spokesman Nicolas Maingot at a press conference in Johannesburg today.

“We’re happy with the attendance,” Maingot said. “The bigger picture is that we have the second-highest attendance after the U.S. in 1994.”

“We’re not talking about unsold tickets, we’re talking about sold tickets that have not been occupied,” Maingot said. “Some ticket-holders, including international ticket holders, did not turn up.”

The population difference between USA and SA is massive. SA is a very small population with only 49 Mill.

And I was there in 94!!! And I was rooting for USA to pull off a great world cup. And when I go to brazil in 2014 I will be rooting for Brazil to pull off a great world cup. Thats just who I am-I wanna see people succeed and I wanna see people enjoying themselves.

Soccer City = 94 700 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soccer_City
Wembley = 90 K http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wembley_Stadium

Great games so far today.

Interesting situation in this group aswell.
If argentina beat Greece(like the probably will) and Nigeria beat South Korea means Argentina will have 9points and the other 3 tied on 3points so goal difrence will come down as a deciter.

Please mexico, beat the French!
Cant stand it if France make the ko stage.

Didn't get to see all of Argentina v SK and any of Nigeria v Greece unfortunately, both sound like they were pretty entertaining though so will see if I can find replays somewhere. Can anyone tell me if Enyeama had a decent game again for Nigeria? He really impressed me against Argentina

lol France, lol Domenech. Still plenty of time but seriously lol, hope they lose.

Glad it was Hernandez who scored too. Was very confused as to why he didn't start. Let's face it, Franco has just been released by West Ham, whereas Hernandez has just been signed by Man Utd, seemed strange, but w/e

Enyeama had a great game for Nigeria apart from gifting Greece one goal.
Maked some great saves but he miss calculated a bad shot and punched the ball to a Greek player that tapped it in.

Mexico were too quick for a terrible French team. dos santos played well-I even enjoyed the way he played in the opening game! Hernandez has been on form for a while now and just proved his skill tonight side stepping the keeper...off side or not?

Enyeama had some good saves but he did gift Greece that goal, I wonder if that ball was moving around. The goal keeping looked very similar to the Green effort-he wasnt behind the ball.

ARGENTINA vs Brazil or Spain final. But again, Argentina have not really had a tough team to beat in the first round. Both Mexico and Uruguay might be able to beat them-especially the way Mexico played explosively tonight.

+10,,,,,,,,I'm also at a loss as to why TV commentators are making Maradona out to be some sort of 'god'. Dude was a cheat & drug addict and true footy fans will always remember him that way, just like the dude in the pic above.

With respect to Maradona, I did have a little sarcastic chuckle inside, after a blatant deliberate handball from 2 of his players either side of half time, just what they've been getting up to in training ;) (jk)

Nice to see the French got what they deserved! :D

Yeh Yay I watched it...:(.

Who the hell chose this referee to be one of the best of his profession ???

Booked almost everyone (germany as much as serbia) - and it was Kloses 2nd foul (btw a harmless one - the second).

Hey it's professional football, why use an amateur (at best) as ref ?

The game itself wasn't bad with great chances on both sides.

The penalty by Podolski wasn't well shot but the keeper made a great save.

Someone should tell the Serbians that it's football not handball btw.
