Can't wait for Bahrain, this season is going to be amazing! :D

Just had a guy from the vehicle dynamics department at Force india do a guest lecture on one of my modules. Was really interesting and it seems this year there will be big trade offs to be made regards optimising suspension setup and damping for either qualifying or the race, and thereby its consequences on starting position, race performance, stint lengths, tyre degradation etc. etc. For the first few races at least we should be expecting a few of the established teams which are maybe not expecting to run with the front pack e.g. Renault, to be running very much against the grain in terms of setup and strategy. With the front teams running so close together it will be unwise to compromise low fuel performance. FI interestingly haven't had issues with tyres going off under heavy fuel load, in fact, counter intuitively they've observed quite the opposite in the long runs during testing. He's expecting drivers like Alonso and Kubica to potentially struggle managing their tyres over the long runs due to the high loads they exert on the tyres in corner input relative to other drivers.

Found out lots of other interesting stuff how they do a lot of the set up work in the factory on race weekends, and was an eye opener as to how they can run so few laps on Fridays, they essentially run the car in the morning, beam the current track data back to the factory which is straight away input to a car readied on the seven post rig and is 'sent' around the track on the rig, they make adjustments on the rig, report the findings back to the race team in time to make adjustments for FP2 on the Friday Afternoon/Saturday Morning, intriguing stuff!

Its about to start! :D:D:D:D.
Is there anything better then siting on the sofa, slightly hung over on a sunday morning watching F1?

Hopefully Ferrari can improve from last year and get into the title race where they belong.
Every ones obvs. waiting for MS return, but the Mercedes/Maclaren break up will be interesting too!

P.S
Mods, move to sports?

YEY, F1 fans :)

Good to see there are plenty on CC.

I can't wait for it to start. I'll be glued to the telly

Yeah, all of the above, except for the hangover.... been there too many times to recall

Mods, move to sports?

Probably won't happen, aren't all the mods from the USA ? They've probably never heard of Formula One

Someone ahould make a "F1 2010" thread in the sports forum. I'm new boy here, and too scared to do it.

I'll be supporting Hamilton and Button, because I am a McLaren fan, and it's good to have two brits drinving for them.

I am also a Barichello fan (I wanted him to win last year :( ... , but was very happy with the final result . British driver, British team, can't but feel good about that :D

I've been a F1 fan since the days of James Hunt, but stopped following in the late 80s through to the mid noughties, due to excessive social life, not loss of interest. A friend got me back into it, as we used to sit there monged out with hangovers and whatnot, watching Schumaker win race after race after race. I got a bit bored with his seeming unbeatabability (does that word exist ?), and what really annoyed me was when Barichello had to give up his lead to Schumacher. But then he retired, and I cellebrated, and F1 became fun again.... but ...... oh my goodness, and ahhhhh

HE'S BACK !!!!!!

:) funnily enough, I am actually looking forward to it. There are some very skilled drivers out there, and it will be interesting to see how he fares. Has he still got the magic ?

I reckon the educated money will be on RBR for early successes, but after that, who knows. The reason why I say that, is because they are the only team still intact from last year, same drivers, same team, and they came very close to winning.

I still want McLaren to win

If Ferrari win then that's good, as I'm half Italian

If McLaren win then that's good, because I'm half English

If Barichelo wins than that's excellent, because I'm a big fan

If MS wins, then "well done", but "damn, noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo"

I am certain that 2010 will be a very interesting and enjoyable season

This should be the most open and challenging F1 season for years, multiple world champions, new teams, no more re-fuelling. The final pre season testing in Barcelona saw a different car lead the timesheets every day. Half a second separating the top 8, can't wait for the 1st race.

Unofficial Sunday times from Barcelona:
1. Lewis Hamilton, McLaren, 1:20.472, 134 Laps
2. Mark Webber, Red Bull, 1:20.496, 61 Laps
3. Felipe Massa, Ferrari, 1:20.539, 114 Laps
4. Adrian Sutil, Force India, 1:20.611, 100 Laps
5. Sebastian Vettel, Red Bull, 1:20.667, 76 Laps
6. Michael Schumacher, Mercedes GP, 1:20.745, 123 Laps
7. Rubens Barrichello, Williams, 1:20.870, 84 Laps
8. Kamui Kobayashi, BMW Sauber, 1:20.911, 67 Laps

Team US F1 busto, the Charlotte based team closed down on Tuesday so there are now only 24 cars racing in this F1 season.

That's crazy, for that to happen you really can't be paying much attention to what is in front of you. I mean, surely you'd see that there's no floor !!! And, the walls of the lift would look nothing like the wals of the shaft... and probably no ceiling !!!

Someone in the article said he was "very unfortunate" for that to happen !! hmm, very fortunate that he wasn't hurt more, or killed, even, I'd say.

Sebastian Vettel - 2010 Champion

Vettel is a good driver but he isn't one of my favorites. He has seemed to me a solid option but not really a driver I am going to cheer for regardless of circumstance. He is the driver I cheer for when he is in the mix with a driver I don't like.

Personally, I would like to see Rubens become a World Champion. I also would like to see Massa with the title at some point but this year is probably not to likely with Alonzo as a "team"-mate.

Bernie Ecclestone, however, thinks Vettel should have been the 2009 Champion is hoping he will be this year. He said a few other things in an interview posted here:

http://www.formula1.com/news/interviews/2010/3/10500.html

but nothing I found enlightening or really all that interesting.

Final Practice at Bahrain

Halfway through the final session before Qualifying and Massa is atop timing charts at 1:54.761. GO MASSA!!!

Rosberg, Alonso, Vettel and Schumi round out the top 5. Schumi is only .441 back.

Qualifying starts in 2 1/2 hours...I am so ready for the season to start. :D

Well, took me all this time to make another post, because I was too busy crying ;) Barrichello 11th place, Button 8th, and Hamilton 4th

The main reason for the recovery time was that Ferrari are ahead of my faves, and in 3rd and 4th positions :(((((((((((((

To look on the bright side, at least Massa is ahead of Alonso, and Hamilton is in a good position, just.

I would have felt better if both red bull boys were at the head, or at least in amongst the front liners.

And my mood improved when Barrichello was interviewed, and had pretty much nothing but good feelings about his result, and that he should be in for some decent points.

Today, I will be mentally pushing Vettel further ahead of the Ferrari boys, and Hamilton to pass at least one of them. Urging Button, and Webber forward, and virtually kicking Barrichello up a few places from the start.

What happens at the start is probably more important than it has ever been, now that there is no re-fuelling.

If you see any of my choices lose places at the start, especially Hamilton and Barrichello, then at that same point you will know that I will be head butting the nearest wall.

Excellent and thrilling race today :) Big difference to boring Bahrain.

I felt sorry for poor Vettel, he seems to be Mr Unlucky so far. If he could just survive without any more car problems, I am certain he will win the championship.

I'm a McLaren fan, and was very pleased with Button getting the win, and he totally deserved it. but as for his team mate, is it me or is Hamilton a bit of a moany whinger. Vettel went out with grace, but Hamilton seemed like Mr Sulky for things not going his way.

Dumb arse should have kept his cool and chilled in 5th place, as it was obvious he wasn't going to get by, and there were only 2 laps left... winy dumb arse

Sorry, I'm a bit annoyed at his attitude.

Ferrari.... gits.... very impressive driving, especially from Alonso, but if McLaren or RBR don't get their act together I can see Ferrari taking the constructor's cup.

YEY Kubica... one of my faves, and I was very pleased to see him take an easy 2nd and appear on the podium. I wish he could get a decent car and team. Perhaps join McLaren, and kick out Whinging Pants.

Next race will be Vettel's.

Agree with all the above except the Hamilton comments. He was livid as once again his race engineers shagged up and pulled him in for an uneeded tyre change, he finished 6th cause that dumbass Aussie ran in the back of him with two laps left.

Okay, Okay, you're right... I was just being a whingy git :)

Thinking about it, it would have probably been a 1 2 for McLaren, if he wasn't pulled in for the tyre change :(

Yeah, Alonso should have been in Ferrari for years...then Ferrari would have much more winnings. I root for him since may 2005 when he fought with Shumi and defeated him with very worn tyres.
This race was very good due to the rain.
I'm afraid that there won't be such great race in the future cos no refuelling.

Late response to the last race...

Just as I thought, Vettel took it :)

An excellent race by the RBR boys (1,2), and a thoroughly enjoyable race for the spectators. Will this fun fun fun continue, or will the fears of the "no refuelling = boring races" crowd prove to be true. So far not :)

Good to see Nico Rosburg on the podium, and doing well so far this season (5th in the drivers championship). He seemed to do well last year during pre-qualifying, but failed to make good during qualifying and the main race.

Button done well to keep the Farrari boys away from threatening Hamilton, and making any further gains on the lead, not that that was his intention.

I had to feel sorry for Alonso, all the effort, and genius, to make such great gains, from a starting position that most other drivers would not have improved on by much, only to suffer mechanical failure not far from the race's end. But, then again, PHEW. It gave RBR and McLaren a much needed boost.

Who will win ?? Who the hell knows.... anyone's game at the mo :)

If they could guarantee no mechanical problems, I reckon this would predominantly be a 2 man race: Alonso vs Vettel

All other drivers seem to either have less quality cars, or let their emotions get the better of them.

I can't recall seeing Vettel starting from the back of the grid. It would be interesting to see how he would fare, as we know that to Alonso, most that are in front of him, no matter how many, are farely soon eliminated. Except for Massa :)

A job well done by my fave team - McLaren, and a nice positive response by both boys in front of the camera... keep it up :)

CHINA - Yey, McLaren 1,2 with Button winning :)

That puts McLaren at the top of the constructors' championship, and Button at the top of the Drivers' championship

Another thoroughly enjoyable race was had :congrats:
