Well, vettel got his ass saved because of the second safety car and red flag, or else probably alonso and button might have passed him because his tyres were way too old.

Red Bull messed up today with the strategy yet they were lucky enough to win lol.

The possibility to Change tyres when the race was stopped granted another win to him.

Vettel should play poker he is always so lucky.
But he also makes his own luck.
He only won last year because he had crashed in to his rivals reducing their points. Webber and Hamilton could both have beaten him if he hadn't knocked them out during earlier races in the season.

Sure, they might have passed him but it wasn't looking likely IMO.

In other news, this race served to reinforce my opinion of what a massive tool Lewis Hamilton is.

Jenson - he can save tyres, he is highly skilled, he has a mature head, he has a winning car, but he is lacking on the kill to win instinct, that most of the top drivers have. In the last race, if it were Hamilton or Webber instead of Button, we could have seen some very interesting driving during those last laps.

Lewis - oh boy, that made me cringe what he said after the race... oops

Vettel - this guy has it all... adding a mature head this year, thus turning him into the modern day Schumacher :(
I say :( because I got really bored with F1 during Schumacher's dominance... win win win ... bored now

Hmmm...I'm curious when will they restart the race.
This is like a monsoon. :-/

Anybody watched the Le Mans 24 hour race?
That was fantastic. :)

Waiting for the safety car to come in now.

And even before this round is over, race after race Lewis Hamilton keeps reinforcing my opinion about him being a massive, massive tool.

No comments from the Silverstone race?

I used to live just a couple of miles from there and you would always see the convoy of trucks for Ferrari, McLaren etc - heck even they were impressive vehicles :D

From last nights Top Gear Sebastian Vettel in a reasonably priced car for those who are non-UK peeps -

Damn, I still need to watch that.... iplayer time :)

One comment: WOOT, Vettel did not win the race

And amazingly I am rooting for Alonso

Notice that they keep on mentioning that Vettel is making F1 boring to watch.

The season is nothing like last year, but still thoroughly enjoyable, but it would be nice to see someone give Vettel a good chase for the championship.

The only boring bit of it is the dominance of Vettel, but that just shows how much of a genius he is behind the wheel.

I think I will back Alonso for the Championship now, as I believe he is the only one with the skill to match Vettel. I just hope they keep on improving the car.

I'm still a McLaren fan, but now it's time to get behind someone who can keep that championship trophy out of Vettel's hands.

Button hasn't got the drive, and Hamilton has his emotions and bad luck to contend with.

Webber ? I think emotionally he is weakened this year. Shame, but true.

Anybody else.... there's nobody else...

GO GO ALONSO !!!! Ferrari FTW

You just about said it all.
I was thinking exactly the same things.

I think it is also made boring by all the midseason regulation changes.
They are not related to safety and are just ridiculous.

Cars are built and tested for the season. With updates made But not allowed to test them, mid season, which is also daft.

Make some rules and let the teams compete throughout the season.

GO GO ALONSO !!!! Ferrari FTW
(and I don't even like him that much, but probably the best we can hope for).

LOL - mine was a comment on Silverstone :p

Thanks for the Top Gear link, episode hasn't made it down under yet. Gotta say I'm liking Vettel a hell of a lot more this season. Last season I thought he had a real petulant, entitled kid vibe going on and he seems to have ditched it entirely this year. Or maybe it's just Lewis Hamilton's turn to play that role this year, IDK...

Actually, addressing Chucky's point on Webber I agree that the gap between him and Vettel seems much wider this season but I don't think it's necessarily a sign of Webber weakening emotionally or falling back in any way - instead I think it's a sign that Vettel is maturing and getting even more confident. I think he had quite a few rash and immature moments last year (crashing with Webber at wherever it was, Turkey maybe, running into Button at Spa, etc) but so far this year there hasn't been any of that.

I think the championship pretty much belongs to Vettel already. But the weird thing (and this is coming from a lifetime Ferrari fan who's ordinarily heartbroken when his beloved Scuderia doesn't win) is that I don't really care - the races have been more fun to watch this year than any other I can remember and there's been great action through the whole field. Best season in decades.

I'm confused on the new engine regulations - I thought 1.6L four-cylinder turbos were locked in from 2013 onwards but now the latest news stories are talking about V6 turbos in 2014. Anyone know what happened there?

In other news I'm obviously not a McLaren fan but it was great to see Jenson win his 200th race on the weekend :)

Robert Kubica plans return to driving in October

By Sarah Holt

BBC Sport in Monza

Robert Kubica is to step up his attempt to return to Formula 1 by getting back behind the wheel in October.
The Renault driver suffered a partially severed hand and major fractures in a rally crash in February, but his final operation has been declared a success.
His manager Daniele Morelli said: "In October we think he can put a helmet on to give a message on what he can do.
"It's important that he can start to drive. Whether it's in a simulator or in a road car is not important."
Kubica has undergone a series of operations to try to rescue his career at one of F1's leading drivers.
The 26-year-old will now spend the next four weeks building his strength after a final operation to restore movement to his right elbow.

FIA WMSC ratifies 2014 F1 engine regulations

The FIA's World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) has formally ratified the F1 Commission's resolution to swap the sport's current 2.4-litre V8 engines for 1.6-litre, turbocharged V6 units from 2014

The FIA World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) has officially approved proposals for F1 to switch from its current 2.4-litre V8 powerplants to more efficient 1.6-litre, turbocharged V6s from 2014 onwards.

Having ditched unpopular plans to introduce 'hybrid' four-cylinder turbos as soon as 2013 – in the wake of stern opposition from commercial rights-holder Bernie Ecclestone and the majority of manufacturers – a compromise was reached during a reunion of the F1 Commission near Heathrow last week that resulted in unanimous agreement amongst the sport's major powerbrokers [see separate story – click here].

KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems) will be replaced by the more powerful ERS (Energy Recovery Systems), a move that – allied to the return of turbocharging – has been designed to retain overall power at a similar level to what it is at present by offsetting an anticipated drop in the permitted rev limit to somewhere in the region of 12,000rpm to 15,000rpm.

'Following a fax vote by its members, the World Motor Sport Council has ratified the engine regulations recently drawn up in consultation with the main stakeholders in F1,' read a statement issued by the governing body. 'The new powerplant will be a V6 1.6-litre turbo unit with energy recovery systems. This new formula will come into effect as from the start of the 2014 FIA Formula One World Championship season.'

The last time turbos were heard in F1 was back in 1988, a season utterly dominated by McLaren pairing Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost, whose MP4/4s were powered by 1.5-litre V6 Honda engines. A normally-aspirated, 3.5-litre era was ushered in the following year.

Presently, Mercedes, Ferrari, Renault and Cosworth supply three teams on the grand prix grid apiece.

Huh - thanks for the info. So I guess that means we're sticking with 2.4L V8s / KERS / et al for the next two years?

I hope he will able to return to F1. He's one of the best drivers. I think he could be a good second driver at Ferrari after Massa has left. Moreover he's a good friend of Alonso. :)

Season over, and Webber has finally won a race - even if you get the distinct impression that he thinks it's a bit hollow and he'd prefer to have won it under different circumstances...

Roll on 2012, here's hoping it's as good as this season has been :)

...and Ricciardo has a confirmed seat, which is something for Aussies to be happy about.

I might have missed something, but has it been announced whether Reubens will still be competing next season?

I've not heard anything about Rubens :(

Looking at the teams for this year, it's only Williams and HRT that still have a driver vacancy.

BBC Sport reckon Bruno Senna is the favourite for the remaining Williams spot.

'Despite the injury setback, it is believed that the leg fracture will not have an impact on Kubica's final recovery time - because that is still limited by the nerve regrowth of his right arm and hand which will still take several months.'

Sounds like he wasn't going to make it back anyway if he still needs several months.
