I'm super, super glad I didn't spend money on tickets to that show. Pretty much the entire rest of the card is padded with underwhelming locals.

Don't they give a full refund when the main event is cancelled?

My comment is based on Pre-loss to Cyborg.

Even after the loss ... she would be a big star. But like you said .. UFC doesn't want to have the 2nd best division. They are the premier MMA league.

Even with the lack of attention WMMA was getting when Gina was around she still was popular enough to leave MMA behind and pick up an acting career. She is still getting movie deals today ( it isn't because of her acting ability ). Imagine what her popularity would have been in the UFC.

Dunno - I gather it's usually the case in the US, but I don't know that it is here in Australia.

I know for stuff like music festivals they just put "lineup subject to change" in the event terms and conditions, and if the headliner changes you're stuck with it - you only get a refund if the event as a whole cancels. I'd assumed the same would apply to a fight card, though if the UFC wanted to be generous I guess they could offer refunds on their own.

Shall we witness history being made tonight when His Almighty Majesty King Conor becomes the first fighter to concurrently hold two UFC titles?

Conor bless us all with his greatness. His will be done.

Praise be to him as silence falls on the lips of the haters.

Now, maybe Khabib?

Bring it on. Judging by what we saw of both men last night, McGOAT no longer has anything to fear from Khabib. Even I would have given Khabib the slight edge before last night but no more. As a fighter, Conor has evolved to another level. He never looked so comfortable in the ring as he did last night.

Before RDA (bum), the myth of Khabib was built on cans and journeymen. Even last night he was rocked by a very middle of the road striker in Johnson.

Bring on the hate. I know it kills you all to give McGregor credit!! Lol

I'm talking particularly to you donkamentis and jambroni!! :) ;-) ;-)

Impressive win.

Looking at him in the octagon it is hard to believe he made 145lbs.

I like to take this opportunity to apologize to absolutely nobody.

A sick night of fights!

Conor really made Alvarez look amateur. Not sure why Eddie thought he could stand and bang with him, I expected a much different fight. Still trying to figure out how wonderboy popped out of that guillotine too, insane...

Now, maybe Khabib?

I think Khabib and Ferguson are both legitimate contenders for the 155 belt, they both deserve a shot. But with Conor perhaps taking time off I think it's more likely for them to both go at it for the #1 contender.

Also Conor spoke afterwards about wanting part ownership of the UFC before anything else happens, wants in on that 'real money' - is that even legally possible? Part owning a company that you compete in? I'm pretty sure that's never happened in any sport before and I feel like that would be a pretty ground-breaking step for any athlete in all of sports.

I know that under UK and Irish law there would be no legal impediment to something like this so I cant imagine US law is much different. As it stands he could privately purchase equity in the company and there would be nothing illegal about it.

Even from an ethical POV there would be nothing wrong with it as it doesn't realistically create any conflict of interest.

One way or another, the kind of money he will be earning in 12 months from now will make his current earnings seems like chump change.

Conor vs. Alvarez reminded me Anderson Silva vs. Forrest Griffin. Conor looked like an adult playing with a child.

It really surprised me.

I suspect what Conor does next depends a lot on what he plans on doing with the featherweight belt. If he plans on holding onto it, then I suspect even he'd admit that he should probably defend it against either Aldo (if he's still fighting) or Edgar (or maybe Holloway, depending on who's available and what happens in the meantime).

If he plans on dropping the 145 belt then who knows LOL.

He's already building up his reason for not fighting Khabib though, and for what it's worth I kind of agree with him. McGregor highlighted in the post-fight interviews that Khabib has a long history of injuries, and after all the problems he's had in the past with opponents pulling out he probably doesn't like the idea of signing on to fight a guy who has a higher than normal chance of doing the same. I mean he's still training at the AKA injury factory so that alone would be a red flag...

Yes he's fought guys on short notice in the past but this fight, the second Diaz fight and the Aldo fight all show how much better he is when he's had a full camp game planning for a specific opponent. Win or lose, he was much less impressive against Mendes or Diaz the first time.

OMG you didn't just equate sambo with BJJ did you?!?

This seems like the lamest excuse to duck the guy who has the most legit claim to a title shot I have ever heard.

For what it's worth I think Ferguson and Khabib prob have equally good claims to a title shot when it comes to their UFC records.

Khabib cuts a way better promo though and will prob do a lot more to actually sell the fight. McGregor v Ferguson is pretty uninspiring from a promotional standpoint. So yeah I agree if you give one of those two a title shot it's almost certainly Khabib.

It can't be denied though, he does get injured a lot. Plus he trains at a camp that has an awful track record for keeping guys healthy... and for better or worse that's got to be a red flag. Whoever McGregor fights next they're gonna invest a boatload of money promoting it - they don't want to risk wasting it like they did with Aldo (the first time) or RDA.

That's just one of the reasons I suspect he probably defends the featherweight belt next instead.

Conor didn't look all that good in either Diaz fight. He did seem to learn from them though.

I could be wrong but while watching him win the LW belt It looked as if he was holding back a little ( or as he would say .... being efficient with his energy ) instead of going all out and gassing too quickly.

It was a very impressive win over Alvarez. He may have been handed title shots and shown favoritism but he is getting the win(s) ( Except for the loss to Diaz ). He looked like he was moving down in weight instead of up.

Alvarez at 145lbs possible ?

Edgar is a power house. He looks too small even for the 145lb division. Him holding the 155lb belt before just shows how talented the guy is.

Aldo should go public and ask for a fight with Conor at 155lbs. Not saying he would get it but it's as good a chance as any as he has at fighting Conor again and possibly joining the very short list of fighters who won belts in two divisions.

If he's actually going to defend the 145 belt I agree he should have to do it first. I still don't think he'll ever fight at 145 again though.

He barely has the LW title for 24 hours and you're already accusing him of ducking someone.

Typical McGregor hate.

I'm not sure that's fair - McGregor himself was the one giving reasons straight away why he wasn't in any hurry to fight Khabib...

Exactly. I'm not saying he should be ready to schedule the fight tomorrow, only commenting on him already giving reasons why he might not schedule him as his 1st defense.

But why should he even consider Khabib at the moment?

Even at LW there is Tony Ferguson who is higher ranked than him and far more deserving of a title shot. At FW he has Aldo & Holloway and even Cruz has said he will move up to fight McGregor. And then there is the (admittedly slim) possibility of a fight at WW with Woodley. And dont forget Nate Diaz. Almost all of these fights would be a much more lucrative opprtunity for him than Khabib.

If he doesn't fight Khabib next, it wont be because he is ducking him. Khabib brings very little to the table that McGregor would be interested in so he can wait his turn to get slept by Conor, just like everyone else.

No matter what Conor does he will be accused of ducking somebody.
