WTF is wrong with online gambling. Seriously. If the gov actually knew the thought process or saw some HA there's no way poker would even be considered "gambling". Its just sad me being from the US and seeing this take place

/rant

Its very simple. They want you playing poker/pit games in the real life casinos for the taxes they apply to every single person. They can't tax people online.

Yup. PS blocked.
Still playing on Full Tilt - was able to register for a real money SnG.
EDIT: That was until I logged off of FullTilt and tried to re-launch. The FullTilt.com webpage comes up with an FBI logo.

Turn out the lights... the party's over in the U.S. We've been screwed.
Oh well... time to go mow the lawn.
PS is blocked for me, but I just tested FT and was able to sit at a ring game and reg. for a SNG. I'm in California though, so maybe they just haven't reached this far yet.

Sigh...this really sucks, but thankfully I have a very small roll online, so I can afford to wait it out.

They CAN, they're just asinine and choose to make the activity illegal instead of legal and taxable.

What a shame. What resourse co we have? How many online poker players are in the US? What if cardschat were to find out shich politician spearheaded this fiasco and all of us made sure that politician were never elected again? Of course, we would have to put aside our petty party line bias. Just a thought.

This is quite the mess. Here is what I see. PS, FTP and such are not US companies. Their servers are not hosted in the US (canada and the Isle of Man...maybe other countries). While the people listed who the US Government wants to arrest, only one resides full time in the US (from an earlier post someone made).

While these people may have broken US law, that still might not mean the US will be able to get them extradited. I know that the extradition treaty with Canada requires that the law that the person is accused of violating in the US would also have to be illegal in Canada. And here's the tricky part. While wire fraud and such laws are similar in Canada, the fact remains that there's no law against transferring of funds for use of gambling. There for no Canadian equivalent law would have been broken. So it may very well likely be that those who can reside in other countries might be safe as long as they don't set foot in the US. This is just my opinion of course.

Of course the whole part of us not being able to play (since I now live in the US of A) is just a disaster. I guess I can still play on Carbon...for now...

Whilst it is comforting to think that we can simply vote out someone responsible for this mess, fact is there may be some actual foul play involved here as far as the money laundering goes. The question is, when the dust settles, who will be entering the legalized US market? 'Cause this will definitely spur legalization in more areas.

In the last hour I have joined 2 FT tournies, real money, and logged into Stars.

All appears fine to me.

Since the web site domain names are what was seized, it may be moot. We do not play on the web sites, we play on VPN's. (Virtual private networks).

I think most of the money laundering charges will be easy to beat because the laws defining them (UEGIA) are unclear. If those laws were not there, alternate ways to process money would never have been needed.

But!, I am half afraid to close down either FT or Stars at the moment for fear I will never see either again.

Yeah, I checked a few minutes later and I was able to get on and play FT $.

It will be interesting to see how the seizure of the domain names for the websites plays out.
If you are trying to access any fulltilt.com webpage (and see something), you are proablably looking at a local cached copy.

If you refresh your browser while holding the shift key down - "poof" you will be blocked.

My Promotions page - dead.
Cashier - comes up
Transfers - dead.
Bonus account link - comes up.
Withdrawl - fuggetaboutit.

Probably not the best argument, but I had to get this off quick. Sent it to Obama and Attorney Holder:

As a voter, constituent, and poker player, I am writing to ask for your support in defending my right to play poker on the Internet.

I am one of the 10 million poker players in the U.S. and I resent your action against pokerstars, full tilt poker and Cereus. With all the REAL problems this country faces, you would think the DOJ would have something better to do than prevent me from enjoying a game of skill in the privacy of my own home.

Spending taxpayers money in this way is just another example of how misguided our government has become. You really think I should be prevented from entering a tourney for $1.20?

This action against the major poker sites needs to be dropped immediately.

I look forward to your response on this issue. I hope that I, along with my over one million fellow Poker Players Alliance members, can count on your support.

Thank you for your consideration.

What was Obama's campaign slogan? "Are you fired up? Ready to roll?"
That should now be the tactic PPA should take.

I nearly puked when I saw this thread. From a selfish standpoint, I was in the middle of the best month of poker that I had ever had. Over a hundred dollars won in the last 7 or 8 days.

More importantly though is what it says about my country. Its ironic that this is happening the same day as the release of the Atlas Shrugged movie.

That whirring sound that you are hearing in the background is Ayn Rand spinning in her grave.

One of the Stars SNE posted this on a forum a while back. Looks like this guy has common sense:
For MikeyT, I have considered quitting my day job. The Stars VIP program will provide me with $140K alone this year (for achieving 1.25 million VPPs, Elite status, etc.). Being from the USA, however, I am ever concerned about poker regulation in this country. With my luck, I would resign my job (I am the Director of Occupational Therapy at my local hospital and have worked there 10+ yrs) and the next day Stars would pull out of the USA market. Then, I would be in trouble. With a family, I always have fears that someone will go unprovided for, and this concerns me deeply.

I am on the east coast and Tilt is fine for me, Stars I can log in, but when I go to sit at a table I get the message that I cannot play for money.
I am also going to send the email posted on the last page, nicely done.

Any thoughts on where it is safe to deposit and play?

I am blocked from joining real money games on poker stars. That is only site I currently have bankroll with. Anyone have a suggestion of where it might be safe to deposit and play?

Thanks. Sarah
