It's hard but not that much, if you study and have the mentality the odds are favourable to you.

First of all, I will start by saying that I think that the advancement of casino games has influenced poker rooms, since those who seek to earn money easily and relatively quickly are attracted to poker and start playing knowing only its basic rules and not its complex strategies.
That's why good players are sometimes complicated by players who can afford a triple all in with a pair of 3 preflops, and the variance of poker makes them win the hand.
This reason makes it more difficult, but in answer to your question, poker is still profitable and it is possible to make a living from it.
Final tip: I recommend to those who want to dedicate themselves to poker that this is not their only option, it is not advisable to give up everything and jump straight into poker. It's a game where we need a cool mind for every move and if we get upset thinking that we NEED the money to pay the bills at the end of the month, it will lead us to make bad decisions.
In my experience, whenever I had no obligations or debts, I played better than when I had them.

You said it, bro. That reminds me of the musician who said it took him ten years to become an overnight success.

it all about your ability to just fold when you are in a strange place and to stay out from very big pots :) , in my points of view if you can do this you can make ,,easy,, money online , but let me tell you from my experience ....is very very very hard !!! :)))

You have to be very balanced to be able to live from online poker, to have a bankroll that is quite consistent, and to never think that you will win everything. Like everything in this world and in the game of poker there must be a balance, and then substantial earnings will surely come to make your life better.

Very hard but probably easier with a team to teach the important things, with a team you can be a pro and make a lot of money probably.
Go for the gold
God bless

This is a hobby for me but I would think as a job, it would break a lot of humans. You would need endless patience, resouraces and time to succeed. I know there are some that can here and I am humbled in their presence. I know that I could not do it.

Yes it is a way to make a living. But I don't think it's that easy, if it were all people would dedicate themselves to this. It's not easy to spend 10 hours playing at a good level every day

definitely. wouldnt say any of it is an easy living though lol. if i were to have a choice to play poker for a living between online (cant where i live) and live poker, id choose live poker every time. too hard these days to earn a real living playing online. too many variables vs playing live.

To be a winner, you don't need much effort if you have a little skill.
But to make a living from it and live well, you need to learn a lot, you need to follow the trends, it's okay if you have a coach and a mental trainer.

I didn't live through that golden age you wrote about, so I'll have to take your word for it). I started playing on pokerstars in 2009, when it was already hard to win anything in online poker. Of course, people are getting smarter every year, many have turned online poker into their main source of income, they play like robots for days on end and constantly hone their skills to the smallest detail. That's why it's getting harder to win money every year. But harder doesn't mean it's unrealistic, I'm sure that even today you can be a winning player and make good money playing online poker, we're talking about those people who have dedicated many years of their lives to this business and who understand this game, and not just play it. Here, in principle, as in any other field of activity, people are constantly progressing, so I think that it will only get harder every year, and unfortunately, that golden age you're talking about is unlikely to return). Good luck at the tables.

online poker is hard, used to be easy in past when people overplayed hands so bad like lower flushes at pot limit Omaha

Yes, online poker can still be profitable. Focus on game selection, skill improvement, and using tools. Adapt and stay disciplined. Good luck!

As I can work in a good job, poker is no option to finance my life.
For I´ve been playing now 3-5 years I recognised that it is hard to win on lower and higher stacks.
I cannot beat Cash Games I guess, I am not sure why, perhaps I am playing too tight so probably the rake kills me.

Tournaments I am not sure, when I have some tickets with bigger buyins, I cash from time to time, but I still found no way to start a serious try with Buyin-Tournaments, although I win about 100 EUR a month with CC`s and other freerolls/promotions.

My loving family and less loving job are a big time factor for me, so I would need more free time to train poker more seriously, but I am highly motivated in every League game - every week :)

As a somewhat "older player" (I will not share my exact age, even if my gray hair does! ;)) I remember the golden age of enormous poker fish tanks online. It seemed that poker was so easy to beat online. Playing NLH almost felt like printing money. And online Omaha was perhaps even easier to win.

Now as we near the end of 2024, I find myself wondering if there is still a way to beat this game. What do you think? Can online poker still be beatable and profitable?
Playing poker online and being profitable is extremely difficult, and it is almost impossible to make a living from poker alone.

I think there are always ways, for example, now if you train artificial intelligence to play poker, it can bring in a lot of money😅

Poker has changed... the only question is whether you were able to adapt to the changes too? ) Big money... the probability is extremely low, but $100 to $300 per month... you can, most importantly, play carefully, don't drink or play for cash at the beginning of the week)

Yes, online poker is a hard way to make an easy living. While it might seem straightforward—playing a game to earn money—the reality is much more challenging. To be consistently profitable, players must invest countless hours studying strategies, analyzing hands, and improving their skills. Variance can lead to long losing streaks, even for the best players, testing emotional resilience and bankroll management. The competition is fierce, as many players dedicate their lives to mastering the game. For those who succeed, the rewards can feel easy, but the road to get there is anything but simple.

Definitely is, best part about poker is once you have knowledge how to play it stays forever... of course poker tables adapt but most of the learning stays viable.

Learn poker once, keep it for life!
