Try the Orleans

When I go to Las Vegas, especially to play live and tournament poker, I go to the Orleans. It has a fantastic poker room that spreads a good amount of games and limits. Also, the rooms are good-sized and well furnished. It is my preferred place due to the "local" feel and the poker room is near a very good food court and bar, as well. :)

I just stayed at the Golden Nugget for the Bar Poker Open and the staff were great. Really friendly. The pool area is also really nice with a big fish tank back drop. My room was old school but clean. The window opened which I love. I hate not being ale to get air from outside. Overall I'd say it was great value.

Being from Houston, I'm a big fan of the Golden Nugget. I play at the Golden Nugget in Lake Charles, LA several times per month - so when I am in Vegas, I like playing at the Golden Nugget in Vegas.

I prefer to stay at 'non cassino' hotels.. I've stayed at Platinum and at Vdara, both are well located and close to all the action (except to the Fremont). For eating, Giordano's pizza is the best!

Orleans

I stayed at the Orleans while playing in the wsop Main event this year. The place is clean. The rooms were spacious. They have a very nice pool area, a great poker room with daily tournaments. They run a shuttle every 30mins to the strip. I got a great deal on the price. If your on a budget but want a decent place to stay I would highly recommend the place. I booked it thru Hotels.com.

It was very difficult to find a good steak in Las Vegas. I don't want to pay a WSOP entry, there should be some decent non-stringy/chewy ones somewhere. But I was 0-6, never found THE STEAK. Best I ate was at Cornerstone at Gold Coast .. and I was surprised by how nice my Gold Coast room was. (Biggest GC problem was not letting people use the stairs; the elevator waits were interminable.) If you know of a good steak I should check out, suggest; I'll be headed by in Auigust (maybe) and after Thanksgiving (for sure).

My Nitty ways with Vegas

First some basic notes.

If you like to stay and eat at Caesar's properties but only play occasional table games when not at the poker tables, get a Total Rewards visa! If you charge $5,000 to the card during the year you gain platinum status. $10,000 gets a VIP pass. Platinum gets you free parking in the garages and you can avoid the massive check in lines. Plus every time you charge you earn points that can be used at Caesars properties for just about everything. Every time you use your card, your points expiration date get updated to 6 months after that date. So, if you go only one time a year to vegas like I do, it's nice to never have points expire and get extra perks.

Recently I have found offers for comped rooms at a number of properties. This past trip I stayed at the Flamingo for 5 nights, Sun - Fri, comped (all I paid was $170 resort fee). If you aren't picky about rooms, the flamingo has a nice mid-strip location.

If you are not picky, I have found deals at Harrah's, Flamingo, and Bally's. At different times of the year I have seen comp deals at PH, Paris, Rio, and The Linq too.

Get on property mailing lists and watch for those sales. Even when you have already booked keep looking. Caesars properties are very willing to change one or more of your night's rates without having to completely re-book. Golden Nugget (where I like to stay downtown) will usually make you re-book. So, I just book the new better deal and cancel the other reservation.
This year I booked a Carson Tower King at a great deal (as far as the nugget goes). When I arrived I was offered for a little more a night a Gold Club Room (second from top floor in the Gold Tower--closest to PokerRoom and Fremont Street). For the 7 nights there I spent a total of $715, Friday through Friday.

My 2017 Food adventures

I love getting things comped, using points from play.
I used to LOVE the Aria poker Room because their points never expired. But recently they changed to have points earned roll off a year after earned.
I accumulate a number of points on my Total rewards card that I never lose--see above post about TR Visa. So, I Eat at Caesar Properties a lot. This year I tried to stay away from the buffets as much.

Strip Eating
I have not eaten at Caesars Buffet for over 20 years, so I can't give an opinion.
But as far as their other property's buffets, for the price, Le Village Buffet at Paris is my favorite for lunch or dinner.

I really enjoy Aria buffet.

I tried Mon Ami Gabi for breakfast once. It was an average breakfast with coffee for $17.95 You can't have them swipe your Total Rewards card there as they are technically not a Ceasars restaurant. However you can get a voucher from the TR desk right close by to use there.

I found myself eating at Hash House more this trip. For $17.78, I got a HUGE breakfast and coffee and did not feel the need to eat until dinner!

There's a little restaurant/bar called Burger Brasserie in the walkway between Bally's and Paris ( closer to Bally's) that has decent burgers. Monday - Friday 4pm - 6pm they have 2 for 1 drink specials--50% off draft beer. Enjoyed some Stone Ruination IPA this year.

I checked out the Oyster Bar at Harrah's my mussels fra diavolo were very good ($22). I'm not an Oyster guy--never had them, but what I saw coming out looked awesome. Friends have said the Oyster Bar at Palace Station is very good--maybe next year.

Lemongras (Thai) at Aria -- first time this year. Loved the Drunken Noodles. I will eat there again another time.

DownTown
Lola's Louisiana Kitchen -- Main courses were fantastic. I had the Bronzed Catfish served over Gouda grits with an andouille sausage and mushroom ragout.

I love to eat at the Grotto at the GN. Happy hour is M-F 2pm 6pm decent pizza for $8. I have eaten at the Claim Jumper $14 for a decent breakfast with coffee.

There's a Hash House at the Plaza.

I enjoyed the Happy Hour at Pizza Rock 3pm - 6pm ( short walk from Fremont St). $7 personal size pie $2 off draft beer.

As for buffets, yes there are some. Nothing to write home about. But the Nugget and Fremont are decent. Main Street is the best priced you'll find.

The internet is a great thing. Many restaurant menus available online. I look to venture out again next year to hit some places i've never been to.

Craft in the MGM was very good. There also used to be a place in New York New York where they age the steaks and always looked very good, but I never ate there. Foir the record I said it was pretty good not cheap ... lol

The Venetian

The Venetian is a great place to stay. The rooms are large so you can have a great group go along. If you bid for a room on Priceline.com and request a four or five star on the strip The Venetian usually is the pick.

Is the Flamingo in good shape and a nice place to stay??

The biggest thing it has going is its location. It is on the low end of Caesars properties. The room I have stayed in for the past few trips has been in need of renovation. But, it is clean. Mattress, sheets, and pillows have been great. Towels are large. Water pressure is great with plenty of hot water.

I've stayed in much nicer and I've stayed in much worse.

Everyone has a different definition of "nice place" to stay.

I found some pictures of the low end Bally's (2014, top picture) and Harrah's (2015, bottom picture) rooms. These have not been renovated. I always like to get a King--more room!
