Wow I didn't realise this was still getting replies five years later :)

Hello guys, I would really like to know your point of view. If I deposit 10$ on partypoker what should I play? 0,11$ - 0,22$ SNGs or cashgame? And if you suggest cashgame, which limits should I play in the beginning? When should I go on to the next level? It would be really nice if someone of you could tell me some tricks or how the BRM is working best, without loosing the whole bankroll in a short time. I know I must not play to big limits, but what limit is the right to start?
Best wishes, Watchurblinds

I think what I said in my original post still applies: play whatever version you think you're best at (whether that's SNGs or cash games doesn't matter) and play the lowest stakes they have available. Play your best, hope to run good, and don't move up in stakes until you're properly rolled for it.

I can't believe this is the first I came across this. Although a lot was very relevant to FTP and everything around and up to Black Friday, much of this still is sound. I got caught up in many of the FTP Rush points races at the time. Looking back after the shutdown, it became very clear what they were up to.

Somethings that get dug up again and again usually are worth the time.

It would be interesting, if you haven't already, to see a retrospective post on this Oz!

Yeah Full Tilt was my main site when I wrote this (still is, in theory) so that's where a few of my examples come from but you can certainly apply them to other sites.

As for a retrospective I actually don't have much to tell I'm afraid :p My bankroll got tied up on Full Tilt during the whole Black Friday mess. Once it finally got unlocked I withdrew the majority of it and now I only play a handful of times a year. Got a young family now and it doesn't really leave time for poker.

This sounds scary familiar. Online isn't anywhere near what it was for me.
Live play is what I do mostly now that a Casino opened locally a few years back. I play 3-5 times a month. That was the agreement with the misses when it opened. And it's about the right amount for me.

From Free Roll to Micro Stakes

You mentioned the skill variance in MTTs. I tend to place top 25 in the "on demand" free roll and Am Card Room. Sometimes top 5. Does the competition tend to get harder going from large free rolls, example on demand with 800 players, to the micro stakes tourney's or sit n go's?

Thanks

Great post.
Learned a lot already through experience and it is tempting to go higher when you are stuck to a level. But it is still the best thing to do.

When I was talking about the variance in MTTs I wasn't even necessarily talking about skill - I was talking about the overall variance of MTTs, in that even a very good player can play in a lot of them, and go a long time without cashing.

That said yes, you'll find there's a big jump in the skill level from the freerolls to the micros. It'd be extremely unreasonable to expect to routinely place in the top 25 of any 800-person real money MTT, even microstakes ones.

It's very difficult to build a bankroll from scratch, the most important thing in this is the control of emotions
the most important in freerolls is luck if we consider building a bankroll from zero, im pretty sure there is no pro that would accepted a challenge against freeroll maniacs.

Hi guys and gals. I know I'm new (2nd post). But a couple months back someone asked where to play. I play betonline but there ITM % is kids low. Like 40 places for a tourney that has 800-1200 entries. But there $100 freroll at 8pm central has been limited to 900 entries so its easier to place in. Just be sure to register early because it fills up fast. But my favorite site is Fullflush they have 2 $25 1pop at 4 and 6 pm central. There is usually 400-500 people but it pays only 20 places. But you can sit out or or just fold the first few mins and you have a good 300 man tourney. (Let the all-iners get outta the way. Lol) but there best one is there $250 nightly at 8pm central. It pays 60 places. Also on Friday it's a $500 free roll that pays 100 places. Also I've never seen over 2000 people on the site at one time so alit of there stuff isn't full to the gills... Lol sry for the long post but thought it might help some people find a place to play. Layers.... Tal

Very good post
I had a little recent experience with micro bankroll, I gained a small amount in a MTT and be able to reach almost $ 20 in the PLO $ 0.01 / 0.02 and SPIN & GO in PS.
For this week the variance hugged me took her away this small bank, do not think to buy US $ at the time because my account and BR and the conversion is 4x1.
I'll hunt some freerolls and try again raise some bank .. meanwhile we must read and study not to become just another fish.
Luck at the tables !!

BRM is not a method to "avoid losing all dollars". Think of it as a way to budget your available funds so that you can position yourself to be successful.

I'm going this route sng single table and MTT so I can get a nice roll to limit cash,I tried doing it on micro just was fed up with the play..yes micro lots of fish and donkeys , mid stakes more skilled players but if it means winning a little less and playing with players know what they doing and learning the game from that stake rather then losing your mental\emtional well being for lots then rather go the other route but that's just me.

Bankroll management, it is my weakest point. Help, how to adhere to the rules for bankroll? My patience usually breaks down to 2-3 weeks. It usually affects the loss in 2-3 days. It breaks my psychology and I begin to lose control over how the game and bankroll over, I read books on psychology, but as long as they do not help. Can anyone share their secrets of how not to lose control. As I wrote, I was a beginner and want to start with a clean slate.I hope that the freerolls offered by this website will help me in shaping the bankroll and skills of the game.Plus I want to pull my English, I think this site is also going to help me in this.

I've built from 0 hundreds of times. Just find the right freerolls and take your time building. Personally I've grown old of starting from zero though so use proper brm so you don't have to stress at zero if no games are running. :)

Thanks for recommendations, they are very useful, especially for beginners and also for players, who play for a long time.

I agree that players, should play their best games, but not always they can win because some of reasons: bad luck or wrong decisions and improper handling.

Great job buddy I do appreciate. People do not consider bankroll menagement which is very important. I would say that in MTT's minimum amount of buy-ins is even more than 50 for me it's 100.

Good post as someone who has tried this numerous times in the past I am def going to copy and paste this into a Word doc. I think it's very important to find out what your best game is and then stick to it. Also walk away when things are going bad, sadly this one is def easier said than done.

After reading all the post and all the advices i liked wery much two of them and I hope to help my game.
First one "PICK A GAME AND STICK TO IT" I've played all tips of poker with no results:(
And the second one "STOP TALKING AND START DOING" in theory is wery easy, but is hard to make changes to start winning. Thanks for all this tips to build a bankroll.

I am a new cardschat member, and I am trying to build from a small bankroll so thanks for the advice. I think I am going to play a few more freerolls to build experience and hopefully cash.

Nice post, it's can help few newbies players in Poker.
I'm also starting my bakroll from freerolls and a little deposit after that.
But there is a lot troubles like tilt, down-streak and free time for playing Poker.
But i believe everyone will achieve the objective.

Great post.
I built up 20 dollars from freerolls, before losing some patience, getting reckless and losing a large chunk of it.
I got there by finding a method that worked for me in those freerolls(I've found that playing hyper-conservatively is my best bet in these types of tourneys)

I'm working on this. I've recently cashed in three seperate tournaments on betonline. so now I have $4 slowly but surely haha. going from 0-$4 is pretty cool albeit only 4 bucks but still. my plan is to just play freerolls for now. once I get up there in funds I'll look at sit and go's and cash games. but cash games I suck at. and sit and go's I'm alright at. I had cashed before and then kept trying to make more playing MTT's etc. so now I'm just going to focus on building a decent amount. wish me luck.
