patience

I also get super impatient, for a few days I do well but then I win a few and move up a limit that my bank roll can't handle and have to start all over again. PATIENCE, PATIENCE!!! i need more of it

Like you I started my bankroll by starting out winning here and there on free rolls. I ended up getting up to $29 of free money before I went to cash games and losing it all on bad beats cuz I was playing the 1/2 cent tables. moving up to the 5/10 cent and just getting a$$ handed cuz everyone chases.

That's insane! Do you have a casino nearby where you can play live games? I've turned $50 into a little over $1k in just over 2 weeks, playing just a few hours daily at the $1/2 NL table. As long as you're patient for the monster hands, you can buy in as short stack and easily double up in one hand. (If not more).

Very nice read, I know most people want to hear the dramatic run it up stories, I think some "pros" out there even created one for their fans. Most of the people who I respect in poker have alot in common with your post.

I am in the process of "building a roll" because I suffered a work injury, which left me with much time for poker but unfortunately not much extra cash!! Now there was that time when I was down to my last buy-in.......Haha

Again thanks for the post

Oz,

Excellent post! Thanks for the wisdom and guidance. Finding good freerolls has become trickier, but i guess that it is the journey that matters. I normally play on P*, so the selection of Freerolls is limited.

In the end, success is the byproduct of practice, skill, patience, and luck.

Thanks for sharing!

Great post. I have stuck to playing cash games and I'm mostly making money at a slow rate.

I do find it takes quite a bit of discipline to stick to a single game, I used to often try PLO or fun

Although I do do not agree with everything you said in the post, I think it was a good read and definitely some good lessons in there to be learned.

Need lots of willpower. Try to prove that you can build it up its not about the money obviously.

Yeah PLO is a great example of a game where you can easily lose big chunks of your bankroll if you're not good experienced at it because if you're used to NLHE you'll probably end up getting in too deep with a lot of second-best hands.

Better to think of playing PLO as the reward you'll get AFTER you've built a stable roll.

Very good article, I think the most difficult part is the constancy to stay in a single category until results

Thread items interesting and good.
The truth can not escape.
I had a case: I invested $10 and on the same day in cash games raised $146.
But excessive vehemence has me down to $57.
Conclusion: - it is not necessary to play for a long time.
You can climb and descend.
Better a bird in the hand than a crane in the sky.

Also, don't blow your bankroll on blackjack, slots etc. Use a bankroll management technique for those games as well or play with money you can lose. It takes a lot of discipline to not dip into your bankroll after you've lost some betting other games. Has happened to every other gambler except me of course.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Yeah just don't play blackjack or slots at all. Even the nittiest of bankroll management strategies won't save you from losing money on them - it's just a question of how fast you lose it.

I am going to start keeping track of all my freeroll and tourneys. I think that by reviewing them and seeing what I am actually doing will be encouraging and fun. thank you for all of the tips and strategies on how to aid in doing this..

Are u planning to use some paid software like HM2 or PT4?

Yeah I'd suggest following a conventional BRM strategy where you only play games that you have at least 50 full buyins for - maybe even 100 buyins if you want to be conservative.

Stop-losses are a tricky thing: the big question you need to answer about them is WHY you're stopping playing.

If you're stopping playing because you're tired, or not thinking straight, or distracted, or whatever, and that's affecting your play and causing you to make bad decisions, then yes it's absolutely a good idea to stop the session and come back tomorrow when you're playing better.

If you're playing well though, the game is still good, and you've just gotten unlucky a few times then I don't see any need to leave the table and stop playing just because you've lost some arbitrary amount. I've got the exact same view on setting profit goals for each day FWIW too - why would you stop playing in a good game just because you've "won enough"?!?

So: if you're stopping more for the former reason then... yeah, I guess that's a good idea. I don't necessarily know that stop-loss goal is the best way of addressing that problem though. You should probably find a better way of identifying earlier that you're not playing your best, rather than waiting until you've lost a set amount to acknowledge it.

If you're stopping for the latter reason, then I'd say it's probably a strategy that's not helping you in the long run.
