The main thing - to calculate your chances. Luck is also very important. These 2 components - the key to success.

80% skill and 20% luck Is essential in poker, as phil yves says if it were not for luck he would lose one

I am more along the lines of 50/50 ratio, cwdignus. At least in my limited experience, a lot of the hands I was involved with were going to play out the way they played out regardless of skill or luck. A skilled player can maximize his good luck and minimize his bad luck, but he can't eliminate it altogether no matter how hard he tries.

I think the player's skill in poker comes to the fore. Especially for long game distances where less chances are given good luck and a great role plays the skill.
But luck plays a specific role. Luck in poker is applicable for games at short distances (for example, a turbo tournament where the blinds increase faster than usual). Here at one point have to put all-in and count on luck.

Let's say it's a lot more skill than luck, but you have to be lucky to make a nice move. Sometimes you're almost won and the villain goes all-in before the river and right on the river. He got the victory, it was his luck and his bad luck. Then you need to have skill, but you must have a bit of luck too.

the most important only skill, only by the fact that Luck does not depend on you or do not like and what is there to debate!

Nice topic man. In my opinion if you play just some hands, luck can be all and you can win with the worst hand, but in turnaments where you play much time skill have a word :D

Luck is really just an imaginary trait, you can only be "lucky" for so long. Eventually it's skill that will get you ahead.

Skill is more important, only need to choose the right limit and game type. If you choose the wrong limit, the skill will not help.

the main reason i play cash games instead of tournament is because cash games leans more to skills than luck.
the more leaks in your game you remove the higher the chance of you earning more, thats where leakbuster helps me :). well there are some downswings and bad beats but for me, its better than relying too much on luck.

Skill is more important so you can apply an edge over opponents. This does not mean than bad players lose every time they play good players but over a period of time the good player will win more.

Skill is needed to manage your way through the good and bad luck that comes with this game.
Skill > luck, but cannot win with just one!

In my opinion skill is the best tool but you still need a little luck to do well. I have very bad luck so I am glad skill works.:D:D

poker is predominantly a skillful game but luck is also an essential part of any game that is started on a random situation I only wish I had a little of both lol
