Truth is you can stop and stare
Bled myself out and no one cares
Dug a trench out, laid down there
With a shovel up out to reach somewhere
Yea someone pour it in,
Make it a dirt dance floor again
Say your prayers and stomp it out
When they bring that chorus in

I just reformatted by computer. What's the difference between restoring a backed up database and just reimporting all your old hands?

Old hands are only kept for 30 days I think

What? I mean I archived all my old hands and backed them up on an external hard drive. I also backed up my database. I was wondering which way would be the best way to restore my database and why. I could reimport my archived hands or I could restore my backed up database (though I don't know how at the moment), but I'm wondering which way is the best.

Yay, free card mod at tilt buster, along with two re-created table mods. I really hate the default FTP layout.

Oh.. well by default they are only stored for 30 days, so unless you have changed the default settings on the pokersite (which you may well have done) the hand history folder only contains 30 days worth of hands (worth bearing in mind if you didn't know this before).

Assuming that the HH are indeed complete neither is 'best'.

Both will result in the same outcome.

One you know how to do, the other you do not.

Choice seems obvious.

But if you haven't changed the default setting on the poker client then the HH folder will only contain 30 days worth of HH's.. meaning you must restore the DB.

If you can figure out how to do it restoring your db will be faster (assuming you have a large number of hh files).

Stu, you're right the hh folder only stores files for 30 days, but when you import them they are generally moved by the tracking program for long term storage. They are not erased unless you go in and do it intentionally.
