I thought that this percentage was in the range of 85-90%. But it is quite possible that 96% of players really lose money. This seems more than real to me.

Is it accurate that 96% of online poker players lose money? I have seen several users on this forum in several threads throwing this statistic around. I would like to know if there is any basis for it; what study or source is this 96% figure based on?

And if you do not agree, what do you figure the statistical breakdown is amongst winners, break even players and losers? Thanks! 5️⃣
I can only say that if there were no losing players, there would be no juicy freerolls and satellites, with the help of which poker rooms try to attract new players who will then make deposits. But I think 96% of losers is an inflated percentage.

I think this is quite a real figure. I think 92-96% of players only lose. But on the other hand, for 30-35% of players, poker is just entertainment, for which players are ready to pay, so everything is relative :)

Hard to tell the real statistics. A lot of people play just to have some fun, mostly don't know even the basics.

I think the % that make money has to be higher than 4% specially when I sit back and wonder how many are like me and just play micro/low stakes rec/hobby online or only a few times a year live just to make makes a bit of side cash playing poker. The only question is how much higher than 4% is it? I'd say it's more likely between 8-15%. I don't think there's any way it's above 20%.

Now if one means more high stakes players or players that make a living solely from playing poker. I think the number very well could be 5% or less. Many of the pro's and high stakes players have other ways they make money outside of poker. None depend solely on poker.

I have no idea what the actual percentage is, but I do know two things:

1) Most people lose money playing poker, and
2) I'm in that group.

I think its pretty accurate, but what always seem funny is the amount of "experts" who are losing players.

if you are a player who has invested a lot of your time in the game you will not Losing won't always make it to the final table, a good player can keep his bank for a long time

I think the situation is a little better: about 85% of players are losing money

Hi
I don't think everything is so bad :)
I think about 70-80% of players really only lose money. And I think somewhere 15-20% of players don't lose but they don't win either. And probably only 5-10% of players have a stable income.

This gives rise to many theories and conspiracies about artificial intelligence in poker rooms.
We know that losing is part of the game, and on the other hand we know that superhuman behaviors have no chance of being real, that's why I think it's a lot of fraud that artificial intelligence exists in poker.

Very good question, I often hear about this statistic, sometimes 90% sometimes 92% in my opinion it remains an estimate based on a representative sample of players.

It's certain that the vast majority of players are unable to generate a profit.

Why not ask those that have posted this stat what their source is?

Looking through the page, you can only make one conclusion: you only need to play freerolls .

Only those who don't play don't lose))) And everyone loses! It's just that some people know how to adapt with the help of experience and not lose all the time)

You would need to consider a weighted metric for this to be useful.
