Lot of people deposit specific amount of money, like for example 25€ then if they win lets say 100€ they won't withdraw, rather just move up in stakes.

So when people do this, they always eventually lose their money. Lot of people do this. 96% is still absurb however.

Obviously, everyone who is not in the prizes - everyone lost, and this already depends on the tournament and the number of players, probably within such percentages.

I don't think that's true.
There may be 2% who win a lot, they are the professional players. there may be another 2-3% who win, but not so much.
And I think there are 5-10% breakeven people who are close to their money.

I think this figure may be true.
Many players say that they are profitable in poker. However, if everyone around is playing a plus and earning money, then thanks to whom? Where are these people who will say, I play at a loss) There are none. Therefore, despite the words, many play in the red, the vast majority.

In the mind of most people, playing online poker is the occupation of people who are chasing fast money, adrenaline in the blood. Although bad poker, random is really a disease. It has been proven that adrenaline is a hormone of excitement and risk, and it is people with its elevated level who are more likely to look for extreme situations, gamble, to lose all the money you also need to try. The inability to feel the starting hands and the inability to stop yourself, these are the two main factors of failure.

I have a guess. From the moment when poker is no longer fun and you play very strategically and financially, you belong to the 5%. :D

I think you are probably close to the right number. I look at it as if I have already lost the money when I sit down and if I still have some when I get up that’s a bonus. It’s not a job for me it’s for entertainment

Charlie Carrel in one of his seminars said that only 2% player make it in poker professionally.

Considering the rake, it is very difficult to be profitable.

Is it accurate that 96% of online poker players lose money? I have seen several users on this forum in several threads throwing this statistic around. I would like to know if there is any basis for it; what study or source is this 96% figure based on?

And if you do not agree, what do you figure the statistical breakdown is amongst winners, break even players and losers? Thanks! 5️⃣
To be honest, I have no idea what percentage of their minus players, and plus ones too. In order to collect these statistics, you need a poker room database, I doubt very much that this information will ever be in the public domain.

in practic its not how this works, someone win someone lose, but people who win climb to more value tournaments, and then again and again and again, so literally its 50/50 btw

I don`t think any poker room will reveal this kind of data due to understandable reasons. You can count people you know who play poker and pick those who permanently win. Thus you will have some data you can trust.

I think that the percentage is certainly lower. But you have to understand that if you want to really make money playing poker, you have to become a professional. If most people play for fun, they pay their money for it.

My estimation is 70%. 5% win a lot and for 25% wins and losses hold a balance.

Seems kind of high, but I suppose it could be accurate. I do know that most pros do not get rich from poker, but from endorsements and promotions mostly. That only applies to the top players, Hellmuth, Negreanu and others like them, the rest go from game to game, tournament to tournament, looking for backers and selling shares. The top players have to keep playing in order to keep their sponsors, once they aren't famous anymore they lose the advertisers. Erik Lindgren won millions playing poker, but lost it all, and more, betting on sports mostly. He is still millions in debts and has to keep playing to pay them off. I feel confident saying that most recreational players in the long run are overall much less successful than the pros and they lose much more often than they win.
