Is it accurate that 96% of players lose money?

doubtful%

that percentage? It seems too much to me, considering that in tournaments you pay between 15 and 20% of the players, it would be rare but not impossible.
I have won prizes and I have collected them, I have also loaded more than I win, but well it is entertainment

Are we talking 95% including the people who are just starting, lose and quit play? Or are we saying people who have grinded for years?

I have won money online to the tune of around 7k.. And I only have played lower stakes... One time grinded a few free rolls up to 3k..

Live is a whole nother story I am up atleast 50K.. Id say high end 100k... I have played for 14 years though and binge play then don't for months...

I would like to think I am a good player considering my results but to say that only 5% of people can say what I say? That seems very unlikely.

If we are talking regulars then id say maybe like 70% or something? I know people who play regularly but are not very good... I like to play 2/5NL live.. The max rake at my casino is 5$ so I am seeing very little rake..

Conclusion.... Maybe I am lucky?

I think the players swing when it comes to money. They lose money, they make money ... in the long run there are few who have made considerable amounts of money and have used them for other purposes.

If 96% of players won, then poker rooms have been closed for a long time, but they are still there and only a few players play plus and win money

everyone loses most everyone wins but a very thin subset win more that they lose. OF course variance has ALOT to do with it.

i lose more than i win...

I definitely lose more than i win. Whats more, the more money i have, the less interest i seen to have in patiently waiting to play hands deserving of the bets i'm giving them. If I have no funds in my account and I'm playing freerolls, I plan for them, get in the right headspace, analyze players strategy, and do anything for the few dimes i win on each roll. I'll even play snap games with .80 and when my funds hit 1.35+ I'll leave and come back with .80 so i dont get called all in and get a bad beat. This isn't the case when funds are prevalent in my account... I seem to go looking for big wins, or to catch people trying to buy me out, rather than playing my cards for their actual value. Reasonably, I only ever make money when I dont have any. lol

I think the losers money for almost 70% to 80%, not as much as 90%. The remaining money was taken by the poker room to account for 10% or 20%

This is the point for me. It's not that I make bank on playing poker, I have a job for that. Playing cards and sharpening my skills is simply entertainment. The amount of funds I put up to play cards on a daily basis, pails in comparison to many other "sports". How many people dump crazy amounts of money into things like hockey and football. I have a head on my shoulders and some card sense, but sports have never been my cup of tea. The more I monitor my performance and up my game, the less this sport seems to cost me, and the more fun I seem to have.

I believe this is accurate considering most people deposit more than they withdraw. Thats my opinion only there.

I do not know if it is true
But I know that a lot of players are losing money
Me for example have been playing for more than 5 years at pokerstars but never won a tournament
And my overall bankroll is negative. I just keep on depositing to get a win which I have not yet gotten.

I think it's very hard to tell. Most of what you read about winning at poker dates back years when games were softer. Considering there is a very low bar to playing poker ie money and you just need access to online games or card rooms etc then presumably the numbers who make a living will be similar to those in pro sports. However, one big score can keep losing players playing for weeks or months. Id estimate that only 5-10% if that break even and a tiny number win . Most lose but pretend they don't or don't realise as they don't keep good records.

96% wouldn't surprise me if you play cash game. I make my $ in tournaments.

I don't think so, it's not true. I think the ratio is about 1 to 3

I read somewhere that only 10% of players are winning poker players. The rest break even or lose The poker room rake is one of the reasons for this.

I believe this number is right if you consider the number of players who make deposits, because there are many players that only play freerolls, so, you can't lose money this way.

I have seen a study that has been carried out on the subject, closely related to players who play all kinds of MTT, SNG events and especially Cash tables, and from what I read the variant is given in the latter.
Disciplined MTT players, once they accumulate their funds, are likely to be able to maintain them with their skill in the game.
But many people say that you win a lot of money at the cash tables and that's where I at least believe, it's money that governs, and probably also fortune or luck.
At least in the way I think and play, MTT and SNG are the way you can't decapitalize yourself as aggressively as in cash games.
What's more, I've followed some “great players” who became known for having participated in a major wsop or MTT and earned large amounts in them and then got into debt playing cash. If you search online, you'll see many cases of players who are now in the shadows.
In my case, at least for now I live from my daily work, poker is my hobby.

I think this statistic is exaggerated. I think most players play at zero. The middle part loses money, and a small part loses money.

Unfortunately, at the moment I am definitely 96% in the team. If you win small amounts in freerolls, you will immediately lose them in other tournaments. I do not consider myself one of the weakest, but in live money tournaments play “monsters”, which for some reason luck does not leave.

It’s interesting (I won’t say sad) that the vast majority of us agreeing with this figure are avid, if not hardcore poker players.

I too have no doubt that around 96% +/- 10% of us are net losers at online poker. Especially when you take rake and buy-ins into account.

To our credit though, many of us are also smart enough to just play with the house’s money by sticking to Cardschat freerolls.
