Hi Chris, I have one hand that is haunting me and would like your input.

Colossus $400 tournament. Blinds 1500/3000/3000.
Hero (62000) UTG: KcJc - Raise to 8k
Villain (22000) UTG+1: XX - Reraise all-in
Folds around
Hero folds

Should Hero have called? I felt tilted after folding. Just wondering what the "correct" play would have been. At the table, my image was tight so most likely would have gotten only the BB to call. The Villain just sat down at the table after being moved from a broken table. Was I wrong to have even opened the hand UTG?

Should Hero have called?

In my opinion, most definitely you should have called (assuming that you had been watching the player, evaluating their play, and nothing felt “off” with the hand). You raised and he shipped. You had a very strong hand, you had his stack covered 3x, 8k in the pot with 14k to call (you were already pot committed). If you had lost the hand you would have had 40k to play with and could quite easily have built that back by apply strong pressure on later hands (when in position of course). It’s a shame, as I would have loved to have seen that hand play out. How did you finish in that tourney?

Yes, I have been kicking myself since I folded. I shoved the next hand with 88 and ran into JJ...definitely tilted me. I haven't played in person for many months...it was nice to be back but I need to play more often to get a better feel for the game again.

My book Short stack Ninja helps a lot of people. I learned a lot from David Sklansky's books when I was starting out too.
Thanks for your answer. I will read.
I have another questions, after your book what book could I read?
Thanks.

Hi Chris, are you used to qualify via satelites to big tourneys, or you prefer just to avoid the effort and buy in?

Hi Chris

In your opinion what training provider provides the best training course to improve your game.

Also what training providers are the best value for money.

If you have any idea/info or opinions on them.

Thanks

I have only purchased Two training courses.

An MTT course with charts from Raise Your Edge.

And a OP Poker Spin & Go Course with Nash Charts with ranges from 3bbs to 30bbs.

I found the spin and go Course more helpful then then MTT course i think the MTT course may be for a higher ABI then i play.

What is your view on timing tells in live or online poker? Do you try to take, roughly, the same amount of time for your decisions to avoid leaking information?

Thanks

I don't know what material is good on youtube. My book Short Stack Ninja is very good for tournament players, and it is available in Spanish if you search Amazon for "Ninja Del Short Stack". Raiser's Edge and Kill Everyone are both not bad for getting started with tournaments. There just aren't many books on modern tournament poker because people aren't buying poker books much anymore so most people stopped writing them.
Yes, you are right about this and this is not only happening in the poker world - the attitude towards books has changed, so many publishers are looking for ways to keep up with the times and technologies, creating new options, such as, for example, audiobooks.
But, could you name the books that you consider absolute bestsellers - which are still relevant and will be relevant for a long time, and which, in your opinion, should be read by any self-respecting poker player?

Thank you for this comprehensive, extremely useful video; Very cool. If applied judiciously, quids in!

Further to this, In similar scenarios, how much extra weight does any suited ace provide you, in terms of equity against premium hands?

Thanks
Hi Chris,
I hope you and your wife are doing well after the covid she had to handle with during the wsop.
My Question is:
Is that Excel chart that you showed in that video freely available, or do I have to pay for this?
Thanks for your help.

You definitely made the right play. There was no option that was better. You can not fold AK with 15BB.
Thanks for your answer to my question, Chris. I'd like to ask you some more things, if you don't mind...

So, what opening bet/raise size (first action) in tournaments is best in your opinion... I mean with a normal stack...

Hi Chris. I enjoyed reading about your poker experience. I would like to sign a contract with a foundation or backing as they call it that sponsors online poker players. Please tell me which discipline in online poker is the best to choose today? And is it a good idea to sign a contract with such funds? MTTs are too long for me, I'm more inclined towards cash, I'll be grateful for any advice.

Best regards, Dmitry.

Hi
I wonder if you advise whether what I did here was correct.

Hero raises 3bb in UTG with KhKc, MP calls, and tight passive player (AF1) in SB squeezes to 13bb, this player has a 3% 3bet percentage.
I call, BTN folds, flop is 3d8h9c, , SB bets 1/3 pot I call, turn is Js, SB bets 1/2 pot, I fold.

Was this the right play? I couldn't think of much that I was beating against this player - maybe QQ.

Hey CardsChat! I've just joined the team to write news and strategy articles and take photos at big events. I thought I would celebrate by doing an AMA here on the forums.

I have been playing poker professionally for almost twenty years, have written two books on the subject, worked for numerous training sites, and coached hundreds of students. I also won the WSOP $10k HORSE in 2014 for over half a million dollars and have made two deep runs in the WSOP main event.

If you have questions about poker strategy, life as a pro, bankroll management, mixed games, tournaments, photography, writing, guitars, or the best places to eat in Vegas, I'm here to help.

My new book, Short Stack Ninja, was an Amazon Best Seller in it's first month and continues to get great reviews.
Greetings, you are still a person with a lot of experience in poker and I have a question for you. What do you think is the hardest thing about poker?

In general it is helpful more than most other traits a hand could have, but it depends on what your opponent's calling range will be. Working with Equilab to run a few different suited aces against some different calling ranges will give you a good feeling for how much value they have. Your opponent's fold frequency may also be a tiny bit higher if you have an ace blocker as well. The key is the fold equity though, much more important than anything else in the equation.
