And yet another ???. What are your thoughts on a poker player forming an LLC once he/she has transitioned to pro status? I'm thinking it would be favorable from a personal liabilities perspective, in addition to the pass-through tax advantages? Of course, this is after checking with their tax professional or atty regarding the best election treatment option.

Great to see you in this forum as well, Dusty!

What's your charity of choice and how did you come to favor that one?

What's the one baller indulgence you'd like to treat yourself to (or already have) with your poker winnings?

Favorite table side snack and beverage while playing?

1. I tend to come across various causes and lend support to them. I don't have a specific cause, but most recently was able to help out the homeless.

2. Probably the most baller was getting a Lexus LS460

3. I like fruit leathers, fruit, nuts, and turkey slices. Always have water around too.

Hey Dusty, been out skiing for a week so sorry I missed your opening of this thread.

1) Do you like Skiing?
2) You say you use HEM, what is the best way to fix your own leaks using the filters etc any ones which you can use to identify leaks immediately?
3) In your opinion to a 25nl/50nl 6max player like myself, which is the best way to improve reading books/articles etc, videos, coaching from others such as mates/members of forums, professional coaching or any other which you can think of.

sorry if the Q's are abit rambled but jet lag ftw

1. I don't ski. I am too afraid :D

2. I use HEM, but not really. I basically use it just to track my winnings.

3. yeah. Any and all of those. Those are the best ways.

I posted this in my blog today. I thought I would post here for those who may be interested. I can't take questions about this right now, however, I will surely be able to answer some at some point fairly soon I am sure.

I will admit I never really thought this day would come, but due to irreconcilable differences with Stoxpoker/Cardrunners, I am resigning as a lead coach.

I want to thank everyone who watched my videos and followed my blogs over the past three years here at Stoxpoker.com. It was you guys who kept me going during some of these difficult times with Stoxpoker/Cardrunners. One of the most rewarding things in my life is all of the messages and emails I have received from so many people from so many different backgrounds who wrote me looking for help with their games or their lives. I took great pleasure in helping out each and every one of you. I can honestly say that I poured my soul into this company and it saddens me greatly to no longer be a part of the Stoxpoker.com community.

As some of you may know, I started at Stoxpoker.com as a low limit grinder just trying to make ends meet. After spending the better part of six months watching videos and participating in the forums, I eventually became a coach and shortly after that, became a co owner of Stoxpoker.com. After working my way through the ranks, I immediately wanted to give back to the community that helped get me where I was, which is the primary thing that kept me here at Stoxpoker.com.

For those who wish to continue following my blog, it will continue to be maintained at http://www.dustyschmidt.net . In the coming days and at an appropriate time, I will announce which training site I will begin making videos for.

Thanks again to everyone for all of the fantastic experiences. I really enjoyed my time here helping out so many members. Stoxpoker.com truly is a great community and I will miss it greatly.

Sincerely,

Dusty Schmidt

irreconcilable differences with Stoxpoker/Cardrunners

Is this because you decided to self publish your book instead of going through 2+2 like Ed Miller does?

Looking forward to knowing which training site you decide to join (create?) as I really enjoy your videos.

Wow - that is surprising news to wake up to. Now your pm makes all kinds of sense. :)

Good luck - I know you will find another site and a lot of people will follow you there. You will have a lot of support no matter where you go.

We continue to appreciate that somehow you manage to take some time out of most days to come here and answer a few questions for us. I have no clue how you do it.

I doubt that since Ed and 2+2 are on the outs. That's why SSNL was released as an eBook and not a 2+2 publication.

Really sorry to see you leaving Stox.

When one door closes, another opens. Keep your chin up and you'll do great! But you already know that.

btw, there isn't any chance of CC becoming a "training site" is there?;)

Does this have anything to do with Brian Townsend and the Isildur situation?

Either way, what do you think of them sharing hand history files and basically ganging up on Isildur? What do you think of fulltilt suspending his red pro status for 1 month?

How do you respond/ defend your actions when people say what you do is bad for the game (IE, bumhunting)?

Also, why do you think people on 2p2 hate you? Other than jealousy.

Leatherass, thanks for the intro to this site, as i just found & joined through your blog.

1) I would like to hear your thoughts on the difference between "bum hunting" and "game selection." It drives me crazy... the reason we play is to make money, and every book/strategy forum that is out there preaches the importance of game selection. Yet, when you do it, it is bum hunting... why? (lol... obviously you don't need to defend yourself from the (jealous) haters, but I'd like to hear you anyway).

2) i have limited time, as i have a daughter and work full time. How would you suggest balancing the desire to improve w/ the desire to make a part-time income from this game? (playing a couple tables to improve vs. multi-tabling to make $)

3) Tips on session review? Basically a "how to?" what are we looking for/what are we asking ourselves?

(*shameless "try to look cool" and get my Q answered ... I used to play hoop w/ the new head FB coach of your Ducks).

A third, more serious, question:

You give a few examples of things that make you label someone a fish. What's your default adjustment to a player on whom you have very little information other than "probably bad"?

Does the adjustment change depending on stakes?

I mostly just try to isolate the fish more often and bluff them less often.

Fish at higher stakes tend to be very aggressive. Fish at lower stakes tend to be very passive form my experience.

I wanted to let everyone know that today I officially became a lead instructor for http://www.dragthebar.com

What made you chose that site?

Considering I get free stox and CR memberships through the deal they have with FTP, what would be the argument to pay for membership there on top of those other two?

How do you think people should go about evaluating which poker training site best fits their individual current level of play, poker goals, poker interests, etc.?

Also, what types of players tend to benefit most from training? And least?

Cheers

I know this is Dusty's thread but I have recently been going through this process of picking a training site to join and figured I would share some imput. I will say the site I decided on is the one Dusty just recently joined called Drag the Bar and here is my reasoning why.

1. I am a low-micro stakes player at both HU and 6max so I wanted a site that was producing videos whose concepts would fit with my play. When I looked at the holdem video list pretty much all of them are 200nl and below which fit right in with me. Also, it looks like the main guy producing vidoes for the 6max low stakes is milwaukee2. One thing I did was look the guys up on poker table ratings to make sure they had a lot of hands at these stakes and were big winners there. He definitly met both critera so that was another plus.

2. Another thing to do is browse through the forums and see if your area of play is getting a lot of activity. So for me I went to the micro and ss forum and looked to see if the resposes people were getting seemed educated and polite. I know I don't want to post a hand I played and get bashed by some jerk for my bad play. Everyone there seemed eager to help each other out. I have actually posted several hands on there already and managed to get a ton of thoughful responses already.

3. Since I am a small stakes player I can't afford to be paying a ton for the training, so cost was a big issue for me. Like a few other sites Drag the Bar was offering an option where you could earn free membership. On top of that there monthly fee seemed pretty reasonable in case I couldn't play enough to get the free month.

Anyways thats my 2 cents on what I looked for to find the site that was best for me. Hope that helps.

DUSTY SCHMIDT PLAYS POKER FOR THE HOMELESS

Enjoy watching - I know I did

I stumbled across this video as well the other day and thought it was a great idea!

So I finished reading your book just before the new year (got the e-book version)

Couple of questions

1. What was your plan B if you lost your 1000 initial deposit? (dont think this was mentioned in the book? If it was forgive my lack of memory)

2. What do you attribute most to your learning of the game? pure game time and getting a natural feel or learning theory from books then applying it?

3. Can you give us a description of what your 'poker war room' looks like (i.e. number of monitors, big leather chair, inspiring paintings or what not)

Thanks!
