Consider Joe's questions to be asked twice.:) I saw that article too and exclaimed, "Wow--I know that guy!". Then of course I remembered I don't really know you, but it sure feels that way Dusty because you have been so open and authentic in answering all of our questions.

In addition to Joe's questions about the article, I was wondering if the picture of the guy striking a martial arts pose is also you. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised.:D

Have you ever Googled yourself?

How do you decide when to withdraw some of your poker winnings? Do you tell yourself, "Anything I've made over x amount of dollars this month goes into the bank?" (If you care to discuss that, it might be a bit too personal.)

Very interesting reply considering how many hands you must have in your database, do you think sometimes there are 'action-flops' generated by the sites to increase rake?
(i'm neither for nor against the 'poker-is-rigged' theory, btw.)

I don't think so at all. According to my database I have made appr the same amount of flushes and straights etc. as I was supposed to. That says it all for me.

I haven't been keeping up w this, I read your blog on stox on ss's (Julyish?) and your frustration that the sites weren't doing more to limit/eliminate this, is this really a possibility?

Sites would be making many of us here super super super happy if that's the case...

FTP is going to eliminate short stackers in the next 24 hours. Stars will hopefully be soon to follow.

I notice that MBolt1 is playing a lot of the high stakes CAP tables on FTP. What's your opinion on CAP tables and what would you say the main adjustment one should make to 30bb max poker?

You have to be relentlessly aggressive. You also have to have a really high calling range. Those are the basic adjustments anyway.

Okay, thought of a ???. Treat Your Poker Like a Business is primarily from an online perspective. When, & if, you play in live games...do you also apply the business principles or is it more of a recreational activity for you. I know for me, I like the social aspect of live vs online...so I'm not really sure I want to evolve my live play into a business model (yet).

Welcome Dusty Schmidt! Congrats on your new family addition!

I've ordered the book & look forward to reading it -- the concept is a fabulous idea.

Overall you've addressed the majority of ???s I had, athough I do have the following:
  • Where did you develop your business acumen? Just curious, I went the college route & worked for a Fortune Global 100 Company...I think it would have been a lot less stressful for me to have applied my business skill set to poker rather than worry about someone else's Revenue & Expenses :p.
Happy Holidays to you & your family!

My family owned a 30-50 employee company that I worked for since I was a little kid and eventually worked every job in the company, including President. I learned from a young age the value in so many little business concepts that it became second nature to me. When I started playing poker, I totally approached it from a business perspective. I would always think in terms of how to monetize my skills as much as I actually worried about improving my skills. At this point I feel confident in saying no one runs their "poker business" better than I do. Maybe there are some that are equal, but I can't possibly think of one thing where I could improve my ability to monetize my skill set.

For those who are interested, check out my website http://www.dustyschmidt.net where you can read excerpts of my book, Treat Your Poker Like A Business. There is some solid free instruction there.

I have enjoyed reading your responses to pretty much all of the questions here. You seem like a pretty cool guy, and if you are even in Dallas I'd be honored to buy you a beer.

I don't have a question yet, but I wanted to thank you for contributing to our community here, and to the poker community at large.

There is a particular blog post you wrote during a downswing/even period and any time I have a rough patch at the game at my teensy stakes I remind myself that someone of your stature even does. It really really has helped me untilt a little faster than I might otherwise.

Thanks for getting in the well!

Thanks!

why do you think you are different then the wealthy people around you?
because you say you'll give back 990 million of the 1 billion you want to make?

they are doing exactly what you are ....accumulating money so they can be the big shot and support their circle of friends and family.

your robin hood act is lame...you are them

I can't believe we get a guest on our forum. Such as Dusty. And you come out and outright, insult him. He is kind enough to answer our questions and give us support and information. If I was a moderator, you would have been banned from that post alone. The thread was fine until you trashed it.

Thanks for the assurance, Debi. When I read that post I was at first incensed and concerned. Then I realized that men of Dusty's character, conviction and caliber run up against this kind of stuff all the time and he wouldn't be fazed at all. Or not much at least.

While it may have been meant as an insult and delivered without tact or whatever and I don't really concur but nonetheless I think it is an interesting question and I would like to see how Dusty responds..

5. Greed. Hands down. I am so used to hanging out with rich people because I play a lot of golf and I can't stand like 95%+ of them. Everything is all about material goods and there is just never anyone I meet that ever talks about the good they can do with what they have. I just don't understand why people think they need 90 million dollars. They act like they can buy eternal life if they get that much or something. I think the idea of wanting to make a ton of money is perfectly fine. It is a way of competing and keeping score for a lot of people. Nothing wrong with that. But the part where they want to keep it all for themselves and hold onto it for dear life until they are too old to even enjoy it anyway really pisses me off to be honest.

I love this response! You actually seem like a good dude (unlike most poker players, IMHO). Don't change. And welcome to the forum!

Dusty, I visited your site to order your book which I am so looking forward to reading. I elected to buy a hard copy and after a few little glitches everything appeared to work seamlessly. I was just wondering about one thing, the requirement to become a "member" to be able to purchase any of the offered products. What's that all about?

Yeah, if Dusty would be nice enough to give the ones who need it lessons in golf that would be great! I'm actually a really good golfer up until I get to the golf course. After that, I still need quite a bit of work!:D
