Are 5-10% of players really winners or is it a myth?

There are certainly a number of players making a profit in poker as there are great prizes for those best placed in the prize pool! A lot of people profit, there are countless people and I believe it is a very low number to think of only 5% of players making a profit.

Who can pinpoint it and can track every player.maybe there are no winning players at all and in the long run we are all losers playing poker just paying 10% fees to online bosses and casino owners Those big famous people with their millions in poker winnings are not telling us the whole truth who may know how much everyone is losing in illegal gambling casinos
In the long run, if the variance plays you for better prizes in great tournaments, you would win so much money that you would never be negative with your bankroll again. The house wins and the game is there for everyone to play and many players have good prizes and profits and for some to win, several lose, which is right because the game is played.

Sounds reasonable to me... I am sure sites like sharkscope (despite their faults) have a reasonable amount of data that could support this claim. Also, I am sure poker sites have some data that may support this general claim. But The Truth Is, nobody really knows, as Nobody Has All The Data On Any Player... So it is anyones guess.

If nothing else, at least there is a percentage of players that only play Freerolls and other Free Tickets, and otherwise play very responsibly that are Winners... So The Real Question Is... wait for it....

How big a percentage of that 5 - 10% of All Winning Players are CardsChat Players?

I am pretty sure we have quite a few...
no single source has all the data, so it's hard to know the full picture. But sharkscope and similar sites do give us a decent starting point, even if they have their limitations.

I like your perspective on freeroll and free-ticket players; they often fly under the radar but can still be profitable if they play smart and responsibly.

As for CardsChat, I'd bet a good chunk of that 5-10% includes our players! With the emphasis on strategy, community support, and shared knowledge, we definitely have an edge. Would be interesting to see how many of us consistently land in the 'winning players' bracket.

The claim that only 5-10% of poker players are winners is generally true, especially when considering long-term results in the most competitive environments like online poker. In poker, the house edge is non-existent, but player skill plays a massive role. Most recreational players lose in the long run due to poor decision-making, lack of strategy, and emotional tilting. Professional players who continuously study the game, practice disciplined bankroll management, and refine strategies tend to be in the 5-10% of winners. This figure can vary depending on the skill level of players and the stakes involved.

There are ppl who are on a positive bankroll overall. Especially those who never deposited and still have some cash in their accounts.
You lose some, you win some... the idea is to be on the positive. And never play money you can't afford to lose :)
