I have a question about poker math. I mean how to do it quickly?
I studied 3 semesters of math during my computer science study, but honestly I am slow and lazy about calculating and also about remembering. When I watch some videos about this topics, I always think, oh my god how to do this so quickly during playing a hand. Do you have any tipps or recommendations?
I guess, it is crazy to sit with a calculator beside a game, or do you? :D
Lots of practice and some memorization.

Most of knowing equity vs a range is memorization + some intuition from experience.

Pot odds or Combinatorics is just lots of practice.

Should be able to do all this stuff exceptionally quickly at a high level in order to compete in tough games.

Now I need to cry. :D
I guess, I have to do more about this. I am playing mainly by experience and some so, so,
But mathematicaly definitely not always right.
Can you recommend maybe some link, where it is all easily and memorizable explained?

RunItOnce has a lot of great videos on poker mathematics.

Also you have to spend a lot of hours with programs like Holdem Resources and SnapShove.

Do you feel the WSOP is letting the buy ins fall too low?
( Its geared to be the most prestigious tournaments in the world with the best players but a housewife with $1500 can play in an event luck it and be a world champ)

Do you think the globe will truly ever be able to play unrestricted online poker again? USA , AUS NZ etc....

new zealand can still play online poker.

help

I like to play live tournaments at the local casinos, I almost always get close to or make the final table. I often fall short and bubble. Its very frustrating.
I would like to improve my game but im not sure how to do that correctly
do you have any advice

Setting a limit to pay yourself is usually best, but I always make sure I have enough online to grind well and only move up as my game improves a lot.

You likely play fairly tight/passively, which is a viable strat in the early stages, but increasing blinds and antes turns it into a poor 1 mid to late.

Have to adjust to stage of tourney well and learn how to play shorter stacks.

It was very nice to meet you! Thanks for the advice about being exploited for over excitement at the WSOP. I was really close to cashing in both events I played. I will take 1 out of 2 - 50 % :) Good luck the rest of the events you play! I will be cheering you on from Texas!

I see on Twitter your student took 3rd place in the Super Seniors for $140k. Excellent!

What is the best way to become your student? Team651 ? Private ? What is the criteria you are looking for in players?

Thanks for your time!

Protential will answer i'm sure but basically MTTs have more players and therefore have higher variance. Both formats require cautious play during the early stages, and more aggressive play as the blinds rise. SNGs are different because there is only 1 table to worry about and you win money by placing in the top 3 spots. In MTTs it is more difficult to finish in the money. Maybe you meant the difference between SNG MTTs and standard MTTs? Either way, good luck.

P.S Congrats to Protential on your WSOP Success!

Partypoker

Hi,

Signed up with partypoker and was wondering on what your thoughts were on the variety of tournaments and whether there are better sites?

Not really a cash game player, more of a hobby MTT, small/medium buy ins.

Thanks,

John

Depends on where you live, and why you are looking to add another.

Main options are: 888, Americas Card Room, Unibet, winamax, Ipoker, GGpoker, Merge.

My main suggestion is 888, but any of these could fit your needs.

One question about 888 - how secure is it? They asked for my social and none of the other poker rooms did, so I got turned off. Is that at least semi-normal?

I play very rarely. In tournaments, I'm haunted by constant failure. But I'm good at Heads-UP 1x1 and Fifty50. Should I keep playing these games or switch to tournaments? My bankroll is just over $ 200.
Question about playing pokerstars.

Ask me anything tournament poker related that doesnt involve a specific hand!

Topics like: Theory questions, studying questions, mindset, game selection, bankroll management, staking industry, sites to play on, software and tools, etc.

If you'd like my input on a handhistory please post it in the designated area of the site and I'll happily give my input!
Hi Ryan,
I recently watched your video log that gave your background. I also seem to enjoy the tournament setting better than cash games. I also recently realized how much math is involved after reading Harrington's first 3 books. I am currently only playing microstakes and freerolls. I was a massage therapist until I got hit by a Mack truck six months ago. The only thing that I have ever loved as much as my massage career is playing cards with real strategy involved. So since I don't have enough money to pay for individual instruction right now. What would be your recommendation for good educational references for playing microstakes cash and tournament play? Also, what would be your recommendation for recognizing the different types of players at the tables online? While the poker dream is still real for me, I am realistic enough to just focus on learning and skill set right now. While winning my own bankroll sounds wonderful, I am not attached to that. I understand the benefits of backers from my days spent in poolhalls. I recently started using DriveHud as it seems to have the most reasonable rate for microstakes after the 30 day trial. Any advice in these areas would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,

Garry
