Hey all,

Being in the US, Bovada has been one of the leading OLP sites for us Americans for years. From time to time, I enjoy a small wager on their sports betting as well. I figured hey, lets start up a thread that I will be updating every time I place a bet. Feel free to chime in on any wagers you decide to as well!

Disclaimer: I typically use strong discipline with my bets and usually wont bet more than $10 at a time, and typically they're $2 or $3 parlay bets. I feel this wont get me into that "I've lost close to six figures" stage that some sports betters face. I do it because I enjoy all sports and it's always fun to have a gamble or two here and there.

I am a HUGE football fan (NFL) and to some extent college. I would like to place a 3 team parlay bet each week. I will be posting those below here. Until then, I will typically do a small wager on some MLB games.

Aug. 2nd

Not a lot of action going on that's appealing to the sports I follow. I thought I would try something new to kick things off with a 5 team parlay, but with the teams that are favored to win relatively nice. We'll see how this goes :)

The teams listed first is who I've picked straight up to win. Most are home games, which is always better in baseball, and I believe the only concerned one was the Tampa vs San Fran game. I figured a west coast team headed east would play in.
Tampa Bay Rays -158 vs San Fran Giants
Detroit Tigers -250 vs Chicago White Sox
Baltimore Orioles -190 vs Seattle Mariners
Pittsburgh Pirates -172 vs Colorado Rockies
Atlanta Braves -173 at Philadelphia Phillies

Risk $3.00 to win $23.12

Wish me luck tonight :)

Good luck. Post how you did.

I've never played any parlay, not totally sure how it works, but I get the general idea.

They're a lot of fun. The way parlays work are that all 'legs' of the bet need to win in order for the wager to pay out.

With that said, for my bet this evening, all of the first teams listed in post #2 need to win for me to win that $23 and change. Otherwise, if one of those 'legs' don't come through for me, I lose my $3 vested. Low risk, high reward type thing, I enjoy them :)

i dabble in sports betting myself. i have been doing a few baseball parlays and betting on the rockies (mostly to lose) since i live here in denver and have a good bead on what they are doing and how the team is playing.

i would suggested checking out the over unders in rockies games because they can put up some runs and as this previous series with the braves have shown, rockies pitching isnt very good and other teams can put up runs against them but the rockies can also score too. i like taking the over pretty often or when i know they are really slumping and not playing a great offensive team, it's an easy under bet.

cant wait for football and start doing 4 team sweetheart teasers where you can change the point spreads 10-13pts one way or the other. hopefully i can get some of these broncos spreads to be manageable since they are going to be -7 or -10 most games.

edit: best one ive hit this season was the other night i hit a 6 team for $3 to win $66. 22-1. wish i had a $1000 to bet on that one.

I stay away from the over/unders for MLB. I don't follow baseball so closely to make an educated guess for that department. I wouldn't be surprised if I go into that for football. My Sundays are in front of the TV/Computer with my fantasy teams up and all scores updating all the time. My knowledge there is much greater.

That 6 leg parlay is pretty sweet payoff man. I tell you what, if I win tonight's bet, I'll match a 6 leg parlay for giggles :) Sounds like some fun right there!

I have no clue what your all talking about, with that said, I'm here to wish you the best luck in your "Par-ley", and hope you make tons of $$$$ doing this..If you don't mind (Could you plz explain in detail how this works, from start to finish), the rules, and exactly how you even bet or get your funds?

I understand this is a very basic question, I really just don't know, but would be interested in learning

No problem :) I enjoy the encouragement as well as teaching others about it.

You've got a lot of questions there, lets start with the easy part; Funds.
Bovada in an all inclusive site (online poker, Online Casino, Sports Betting, etc.). With that said, I've made a deposit long, long ago to their site, primarily for poker use. Knowing your experience, I'm sure you know how the BR works for online poker. The cool thing with Bovada is that you can use that EXACT same bankroll for the other things Bovada has to offer (Casino, betting, etc). Long story short, if I want to crush the CC members in the freeroll, I can use those winnings to place a sporting bet on the many sporting fields they offer though their website. Or vice versa. I can place a bet on their site, and with those winnings, I can use that profit to donk it off in the CC money added game.

Now, lets concentrate on the bet I placed in posting #2. We're looking at Baseball (Major League Baseball specifically). This involved 2 teams in a heads up match in baseball. There are different aspects to that game I can bet on, and the site will give me different odds to bet against. I can bet on if I think a game with go over or under a certain total of Runs Scored in the game. I can bet on a team that I believe will win by a certain total of Runs scored. But what I did in my post #2 was bet on the teams winning straight up, or outright will win the game. The odds are the highest, for this is the most basic and easiest (IMO) way to bet, but they will take that wager.

Now, lets get into it a bit more deeper, that funny word you referred to as Parlay (par-lay). This is a combination of many bets, but yet you only wager ONE set amount to get an increased payout. The trick here is, all of the 'legs' in the bet need to happen for you to win your bet. You'd think it would be easy, but honestly it's a bit more difficult to have "all of the moons align properly" and for one to win their parlay bet.

So, lets tie everything I just typed together with the given example of my bet for tonight's games. The 5 games (or 'legs' as I have referred to them earlier) that I'm betting are listed above. The -158 and other numbers posted there are the odds in the specific baseball game. The closer that number is to 0 or Even, the more of a coin flip the outcome of the game is. Or better way to put it, it's more of an even baseball game between the skills of the two teams. With the numbers posted in the 5 games I've listed, I've placed a bet for the decent to heavy favored teams to win straight up.

All in all, if the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Giants, Tigers beat the Sox, Orioles beat the Mariners, Pirates beat the Rockies, AND the Braves beat the Phillies, my $3 that I wagered in this bet will be given back to me as $23.12, profiting $20.12. Remember, ALL of those games need that outcome, if one team doesn't win that I guessed would, I lose my $3 (lets hope it doesn't happen).

How's that explanation? Any other ?'s

So we're half way through these games, but I'm not the most optimistic on the bet. Here is where we stand.

Tigers 2, Sox 1 - 9th
Tampa Bay 1, San Fran 1 - 7th
Baltimore 6, Seattle 6 - 6th
Atlanta 6, Philly 2 - 5th
Pittsburgh 1, Colorado 4 - 7th

I need a big inning out of the pirates soon and a run or two from Tampa. Put on those rally caps everyone, I'm gunna need some run support!! :D

It is official, count this wager in the Loss column.

The Pirates didn't win this evening.

I might make a couple of bets tomorrow. Thinking maybe two 3 team parlays risking $2 on each. I will have to hold off on more 4+ team parlays until I win a few of these. Check back in tomorrow.

No worries. There will be many many more bets this season. I plan on doing 1 per football week.

I threw down some action on tonight's baseball games. I posted it in a different thread thinking it was this thread. Oh well, but here's tonight's action.

Detroit Tigers -250 vs Chicago White Sox
Cleveland Indians -118 vs Miami Marlins
Boston Red Sox -153 vs Arizona Diamondbacks.

I feel the Detroit and Boston games are the gimmie ones. The Marlins won last night, and they've had two straight games with shutouts. That streak as got to end, so I'm banking on a L for them tonight.

Risk $3 to win $9.83.

Bet #2
This bet concentrates on the over/under of how many runs will be scored in the contests. I tried to pick a couple of games I thought would be a low run producing games, based on pitching matchups or the previous game. We shall see how it works out.

Houston Astros vs Minnesota Twins - UNDER 9 runs total
Washington Nationals vs Milwaukee Brewers - UNDER 8.5 runs total
Seattle Mariners vs Baltimore Orioles - UNDER 9 runs total

Risk $2 to win $11.72

Will update this evening with the outcomes!!

Here's the outcome of tonight's bets:

Detroit Tigers -250 vs Chicago White Sox
Cleveland Indians -118 vs Miami Marlins
Boston Red Sox -153 vs Arizona Diamondbacks.

Risk $3 to win $9.83.
Result: WINNER

Bet #2
Houston Astros vs Minnesota Twins - UNDER 9 runs total
Washington Nationals vs Milwaukee Brewers - UNDER 8.5 runs total
Seattle Mariners vs Baltimore Orioles - UNDER 9 runs total

Risk $2 to win $11.72
Result: LOSER

There is also a bit of shinning light to tonight's bets. It showed a bit more money than I anticipated after the payout. Apparently, when it says "Risk $x to win $x" and you win your bet, you get both the winning amount AND the initial risk amount. I thought you take the difference between the two and that's your profit. The amount you win is your profit margin. Learn something new every day.

Another day, another set of action. I didn't put too much thought into today's bet (prob not a good idea), but here's what I threw down.

3 Team Parlay
Washington vs Milwaukee - UNDER 8.5 runs
Kansas City vs New York Mets - OVER 7.5 runs
St. Louis vs Cincinnati - OVER 8 runs

RISK $2 to win $10.60

Aaaaaaaaaaaaand chalk this one up in the Loss column.

Two of my games were winners, but for some reason Milwaukee and Washington decided to put 2 games of production in just 2 total innings of the game. They were scoring on infield singles and errors (4 runs total) - c'mon guys!! Ugh, it happens.

Maybe next time.

I haven't ventured into other sites for research purposes. In football season, I expect a much more higher win rate, for that is my sport and I dedicate every Sunday to my TV and the games and live updates online. I live for football.

Baseball, not so much. I haven't been able to play a bunch of poker lately, so I guess this is filling that void. It also helps to pass the time until football.

I have a very strategic methodology when it comes to placing my bets. I put up the wagers on my laptop the night before as I'm about to fall asleep in bed, I see what looks ok (easy pick straight up or some weak teams with a high over/under total etc) and just find 3 that will pay off decent if they hit. Prob not the best way to place bets, but it works for me. Even only hitting 1 out of 4 bets so far, I've made a buck or two. Binking 25% of my bets means making money, I'm ok with that until football season.

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBAAAAAALLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!

As for you, and anyone else, this thread will be going throughout the entire football season. I've got the schedule printed out and games highlighted. I'm prob not the best to bounce bet ideas off of for baseball but I wont deny any of the thoughts I have.

Lookin forward to this NFL season!

baseball is a crazy game to bet on, this might sound crazy but knowing who the home plate umpire is a HUGE deal when placing bets. For example age and knowing if the umpire has a big strike zone or is a pitcher friendly ump. Knowing this can make a big difference for your bets. Lets face it their human beings and getting older your eyes do not get better. But also they do have their personal strike zone whether it be 1-2 inches off the plate to even 3-4 inches off the plate. Some umps squeeze as well. Seriously look up whos umping and find out what players have said about him and what he has done in his umping bid. Have fun

Never even considered the umpires in placing a bet. Sounds legit man. I'm def going to look into it more to see if there's more to it
