I haven't been able to watch any games, or the news, or tv, for a couple weeks now. I'm way behind in what is going on with teams and such. If someone could do a brief summary of who's on top and headed towards the super bowl and all that I'd appreciate it. I'd like to get back in this and try and earn some fake $$ before the season is over.
Far from being as knowledgeable about all these teams as most but am willing to give my thoughts and anyone else want to chime in please don't hesitate.
Saints: looked bad last three games. Some say who cares had it locked and they were just cruising. Junior Seau said it's never worked in the past and doesn't see it working here. Can't just turn the button on and off in the NFL. At home with a noisy, noisy crowd and they are rested. Drew Brees one of the most accurate arms in the NFL and loves to compete.
Cardinals: Scored a bunch against one of the best defenses in the NFL. Also gave up a bunch and playing on the road in a loud stadium. Could be peaking at the right time. Kurt Warner looked pretty cool in the pocket last week and had lots of time to find the open man. Sometimes his third choice. Am waiting to see if Boldin plays...could sway pick. What about the D?
Colts: See above about Saints. The only difference here is that most of these guys have been through it before. If the Ravens can hold em to a few field goals early as opposed to touchdowns it could be a ballgame, but with Manning running the show that's a big if. Dwight Freeny is scary fast.
Ravens: As usual with Ray Lewis running the D they are tough to score on. They showed signs early to mid season of being a little old and not quite as fearsome as a few years ago but this is the playoffs and they seem to get pretty amped about that. Their running game is looking good and they have three pretty good backs so they'll stay fresh. X factor- can Flacco make the big throw when they need it? Will he get the time? Indy has
pretty good pass rush.
Vikings: Which Brett Favre will show up? Lots of weapons but the Cowboys play the run pretty well so he's going to have to put it up more than a few times. Will he throw into triple coverage or look for his outlets?
Good defense and they are rested and at home. Will AP hold on to the ball?
Cowboys: Tony Romo-see above about Brett Favre. Seems to be taking better care of the ball lately(not so many turnovers). And their defense is playing really well last three, four games. Peaking at the right time?
Jets: Squeaked into the playoffs cause the last two games, Colts and Bengals only showed up to sign autographs. They have a rookie Quarterback and Braylon Edwards (just like when he was with my Browns
) can't catch a cold if you spotted him a sniffle and a cough. Once again though, and this is a recurring theme about success in the playoffs, they have a good defense. Lots of confusing blitz packages.
Chargers: Looking like a strong candidate to roll into the Superbowl. Lots of talent on both sides of the ball. QB Rivers and Coach Norv Turner seem to have taken charge of this team which, according to some players that have been there awhile, is the best they've been on. Seen this before with the Chargers though, great teams that just have trouble in the playoffs for whatever reason.
So that should muddle things up for ya plenty Storm
Every year it has been the same thing defense and a good running game. But this year with all the high flying offenses still in will the running game be replaced? Wouldn't mind seeing another couple of 51-45 games like the Cardinals/Packers
That was fun eh jazz?
