Berths for Asian countries should get cut down from 4 to 2. Having 4 countries from Asia qualifying for the World Cup = Affirmative Action that favors Asians. I'm Asian-American myself and I'm saying this. It's REALLY not fair for countries like Poland, Ukraine, Slovakia, Czech Republic, sweden, norway, Denmark to not qualify just because there were 13 better European countries during that time but they're WAY better than Asian countries. Belgium couldn't qualify for the World Cup for past 12 years but they are FAR superior to Asian countries in football(soccer). In South America also, countries like Bolivia, Peru, Paraguay are better than Asian countries but yet, couldn't qualify.

That's it. That's the only reason why 4 countries from Asia can qualify. It's because of money/finance. Because if you were to exclude those factors and strictly focus on qualifying based on skills, only 1 Asian country should qualify and the only reason why I said 1 is because it's to keep the meaning of the word "world". If anything, I want to say 0.5 berth and best of Asia go through inter-continental playoff like the way new zealand does, and fight their way through qualification. Only then, Asians will step up their game, put everything they have, take the World Cup seriously, and even have players and fans cry from happiness of qualifying. Korea and recently, Japan, take it for granted that they'll play in the World Cup guaranteed, no matter what kind of issues and rock bottom within their team and association they face. Not fair for Euro and South American countries that can't qualify but yet, far better than Korea and Japan.

I was surprised that Belgium couldn't qualify for past 12 years, while Algeria couldn't qualify for ages also until 2010. Belgium kicked Korea's ass with their B-squad team while playing handicapped with 1 player expelled from their team.

100% agreed. Earn your way in...easy berths give you no incentive to improve. Getting an easy ride in is great for you if you're a weak team but you wind up taking the place of a team that can kick your ass!

You're right. Without the money/finance, FIFA won't be anywhere big as they are today. However, as Asian, I feel embarrassed of the performances that Asian countries pulled in this World Cup. Not as embarrassing as the behaviors of Luis Suarez or Alex Song but it just keeps confirming the stereotype that Asians on average just can't play soccer(football). Sure, there will be few exceptions such as Ji Sung Park but other than that, majority just can't play. Only reason why Asia gets 4 countries is because of money/finance. They buy their way in.

Central American countries such as mexico, Costa Rica or African countries spend only hundredth, thousandth, even millionth of the money Japan or Korea spent but yet, they produce FAR better results.

Exactly. I was surprised that Belgium couldn't qualify for 12 years while Algeria's last game before 2010 was 1982. So it means they couldn't qualify for 28 years but yet, they're far better than ANY of Asian countries. I saw highlights of small European and African countries qualifying and they celebrate and cry over their qualification. Koreans and Japanese fans and players don't even know the value of qualifying for the World Cup because they take it for granted that they'll qualify every World Cup guaranteed. Even as Asian, it was too embarrassing to watch Asian countries in this World Cup fail hard. Japan being scoreless against Greece even with Greece having a man down from a red card. Korea losing to Belgium 1-0 when Belgium took out all their yellow carded star players from previous match so that they can clear the cards and save them for 2nd round while at the same time, playing with 10 players since one player got red carded. And Korea is a country that qualified 8 consecutive times because they are the best in Asia overall. This clearly proves that Asian berth needs to get cut down to 0.5.

I have Polish and Ukrainian friends who felt little depressed about their countries not making the World Cup. But they're FAR better countries than any Asian countries in soccer and I can guarantee that those countries have lot better chance of moving to 2nd round but if not, at least they'll get eliminated with 1 win, like Bosnia-Herzegovina.

FIFA thinks they can rectify this by expanding the number of countries from 32 to 40 and just let other continents except Asia qualify more but this won't do anything. Asia's skill level is too low that countries that couldn't qualify to top 40 in different continent can still do better than 4 countries of Asia. Berths of Asia needs to get reduced. Asia buys their way to the World Cup. No skills.
