UFC is like a TV show, every week almost a new event. Besides the other ones, Jungle Fight, Arena Fight and many others. It looks like a street fight with a payment. New fighters coming over every time, confusing also.
Im a Boxing fan, thats better to me.
Cheers, M.D.
Not confusing at all. There are more fights because of how many people are interested in the sport today and how many are training and becoming good at it. It's been steadily growing.

Every sport tends to be confusing if you don't follow it, don't watch it and don't exactly know its rules... BTW, I like boxing as well, but just watch major boxing fights.

a street fight with a payment? fwiw, MMA is much more technical than boxing (ainec). While watching, maybe focus more attention on listening to the commentators (there's a number of them that give some great pointers & stuff to watch for)

I followed boxing religiously for many, many years. Now it's extremely rare for me to watch a fight (I'll watch 'forged in fire' re-runs over a title fight boxing match). Personally I think boxing has taken a huge nosedive and am surprised it still gets as big of a following as it does.

If we make it to the night with both title fights still intact then I'm more excited for this event than I have been for any other one in ages. Big "if" given Tony and Khabib's injury and pullout histories though...

I hate being right :(

Ferguson out, Max Holloway is gonna fight Khabib for the undisputed lightweight title (somehow). I was hoping this was an April Fool's joke, but there's too many people confirming it to not take it seriously.

:hahaha:

HAPPY FDFN DAY!! :flowers: :shot:

Notice that FDFN Day falls on April 1st this year. There may still be hope that this is just a really heart stopping April's Fool joke. Joke wouldn't work unless you kept it up for 24 hours and scheduled Holloway on short notice.

But failing that minor miracle - I told ya so. :bawling:

Well, some of you guys were right about this fight not happening. I for one, was pretty confident it would. :(

Tony wrote in his twitter account "On Friday I had an accident on a studio set that tore a ligament in my knee". I want to know what he was doing in that studio set in order to have such an injury!? Was he recklessly showing off doing some freak moves without warmimg up? I really hope we'll find out exactly what happened.

At least not everything is lost, Max Holloway stepped up to fight Khabib.

I've come to terms with the fact we will never see Khabib and Tony fight, it makes me sad but it is what it is.

Max is obviously a big dog in this fight but he's at +400! I like it!

Man, thought we were finally going to get to see this fight but no. Tony trips on some wires and tears his LCL, what a cruel joke. Holloway has been saying how he’s a big 145er and wants to move up but Khabib is a big 155 so Max is going to have a rough time in this fight if he can’t keep it on the feet.

Caution. I see a lot of takedowns in this fight. Holloway has never faced a good grappler before - much less one of the best grapplers that MMA has ever seen. All that great toughness and striking ability could prove moot when he's getting thrown around like a rag doll and twisted up and pounded on for ten or twelve minutes of the first three rounds.

So....

Conor McGregor is the LW Champ
Tony Ferguson is the Interim LW Champ
Max Holloway is the FW Champ

And when Holloway fights Nurmagomedov at 155 (assuming Khabib can survive the cut), it will be for the LW belt.

WTF is going on here?

I remember Max fight against Conor, which was the last time he lost. Conor injured his knee in the second round, and because of that he had to take the fight to the ground for the remaining of that round as well as the third. And he did, and won all three rounds.

Now, I know this was a long time ago and Max is a better fighter today (he was already good back then). But if Conor was able to do that to him, what can we expect from Khabib?

That's crazy, the way he injured himself. Maybe he was prone to get that knee injured already.

George Lockhart: Max Holloway’s UFC 223 weight cut will be ‘tied’ for biggest I’ve ever done

Extract from it:
Holloway had the chance to fight Nurmagomedov for the lightweight title in Brooklyn and it was up to Lockhart to determine whether Holloway could make 155 pounds by Friday.
“It was a lot of math, a lot of calculations and a lot of f*cking stress in a short amount of time,” Lockhart told MMA Fighting. “I was like, ‘f*ck.’”
Lockhart would not say how far Holloway, the UFC featherweight champion, was above 155 pounds Sunday. But he does have a admittedly brutal cut to make 145 and has not been active in training recently due to an ankle injury.
In the end, though, Lockhart gave the thumbs up and Holloway accepted the fight. He’ll take on Nurmagomedov in the main event of UFC 223 on Saturday at Barclays Center.
“This is huge for Max and honestly this would be so easy to say, ‘No, man, he can’t do it’ and it would be no stress on me,” Lockhart said. “But the kid, I know he wants it. I know Max wants it. He’s actually excited about this shit. He has so much weight to cut, but he was excited. It was like he had a challenge. He’s just like, ‘Let’s do this’ and I’m like, ‘all right.’”

So, it seems Holloway has a lot of weight to cut to make in just a few days. So... not even this fight is a sure thing to happen. :p

I think it'd be cool to see GSP attempt to work his way up & thru the other competitors in an effort to become champ.:captain:

What makes it even crazier is that a LCL tear usually doesn’t need surgery but he tore his off the bone.

Yes, I heard that as well. He even wanted to fight like that but his doctors told him he couldn't. So he went to the UFC doctors to see if they would allow him to fight, but got the same answer.

And he lost his Interim belt as well. I guess he'll be out for months and the winner of the fight will get to fight Conor for the belt, so it wouldn't make any sense he keeping the Interim belt.

Good luck with that bet. I honestly don't see him winning this fight in any way. But a fight is a fight and anything can happen. And at those odds...
I'm also taking Rose (again)
I'm all for Rose, just like the last fight. Only this time, I'd like the fight to last longer. :)

MICHAEL CHIESA SUFFERS CUTS IN CONOR MCGREGOR UFC 223 FRACAS, STATUS UNCERTAIN

http://www.mmaweekly.com/michael-ch...m_recirculation&spotim_referrer=recirculation

The mixed martial arts world was shocked on Thursday as Conor McGregor and his entourage stormed into the Barclays Center at the end of the UFC 223 Media Day, wreaking havoc in the backstage area.

McGregor and his crew were let into the building, according to UFC president Dana White, by staffers of TheMacLife.com website. At that point, they stormed down to where the fighters participating in the media day were loading into vans, preparing to return to the UFC 223 fighter hotel.

McGregor and his group proceeded to hurl barriers, bike racks, trash cans, and seemingly anything they could get their hands on and flung much of it at the vans.

One of the casualties of the fracas was Michael Chiesa, who is slated to fight Anthony Pettis on the UFC 223 main card on Saturday. He suffered multiple cuts to his face, according to White, and his coach, Rick Little, confirmed to MMAWeekly.com that he was at a local hospital for treatment.

“What happened here today is Conor and approximately 20 guys were let in through the doors by the MacLife guys, who were credentialed here. They opened the doors for them, through an entrance, they stormed the building, got down to the loading docks where the fighters were getting onto the buses and started to attack the buses. Throwing trash cans and dollies and things like that,” White said in a scrum with UFC 223 media a short time after the incident took place.

“Broke one of the windows and cut Michael Chiesa really bad. He cut his head; he cut his face. Rose Namajunas apparently was almost hit; she’s super upset right now and basically left and walked back to the hotel. Hurt one of our employees, broke one of our employees’ knuckles, and other injuries. Obviously, everybody’s shaken up when 30 thugs storm [an arena]. These guys are all cutting weight and getting ready for a fight.”

It was unclear at the time of publication what Chiesa’s status was and if he would still be able to fight on Saturday.

Namjunas’ fiancé Pat Barry responded to MMAWeekly.com, reassuring that she was doing okay and wasn’t injured in the incident.

A video posted on social media from inside the van that Chiesa was in, certainly gave a chilling inside account of the incident.

“This is the most disgusting thing that has every happened in the history of the company,” White continued.

“There is a warrant out for Conor McGregor’s arrest. They’re looking for him right now. His plan cannot take off. He cannot leave the state of New York with this warrant, they’ll be ground. I’m assuming eventually if they don’t catch him, he’ll turn himself in. You can imagine he’s going to be sued beyond belief and this was a real bad career move for him.”

McGregor’s teammate, Artem Lobov, whom White identified as taking part in the incident has been removed from the UFC 223 fight card, regardless of Chiesa’s status.
