How long do you think Pokerstars is able to keep their Sunday Million event?

Hey forum,

I'd like to discuss the top of how long the PS flagship even will be called Sunday Million.

In case you haven't seen it yet, PS has a huge overlay in their satellites and still, on the last Sunday tournament there was an overlay of $61k USD, which is 6% of the total prize pool.

Their Sunday Storm event has already been reduced from a guarantee of $100k to $80k only.

If you have some free time on Sunday, there's definitely a good chance you can get in the tournament quite cheap. I got in by playing one $2.2 and one $1.1 sattie both with huge overlays. 🤓

Let me know your thoughts!

Great info Andy. I haven't really been playing much recently so not seen this change.

I reckon they will want to keep it as long as possible as it is their big event. Maybe counter intuitively once players start to realise the value available, more will start going back and the SM will fill up again?

I haven't seen anything about this! Can you post a screenshot here with this reduction in tournaments?

I would not have too much money in an account with them because they could go broke at any time. They are probably also losing money with their dumb power path. Most people just do not have the time for that nonsense or long tournaments either.

They are working to leave the markets, imo.
If the old minority owner leaves the house,
it is a clear sign that this house is breaking down,
due to some misconceptions in their business concept.
I think, we will see this brand follow the way of all the brands they acquired (FullTilt esp.),
if they don't work on their main poker (this site is called pokerstars, not CasinogamblingStars) concept.
Question is, will it be a fast or a slow breakdown.
Their life events seem to be a cash cow,
but their online efforts in the poker section are not worth it, especially for German players.

And as long as their dealer is a more or less unpredictable machine of rake generation as seen here

Dealer of fortune for PS

I also have tons of those miracle run-outs against the odds.

Even with better hands on flop like top set, losing very often against runner runner 1 card flush and so on.
Reminds me like having a “VW shutdown device/service” in the software or dealer algorithm.

good thing we can get SM easily and don't have to worry about what is good !
it only looks to us from the outside that it is unprofitable for them, but the truth is different

casino and hidden cash and spin games bring them a lot of money

I think with the cancellations and the clear reduction in players... which I'm not saying is only on PS, but with all that

happening I think PS is long overdue for a drastic makeover... update, call it what you will but it's time for something

new, I mean wake up and smell the coffee already.... or stumble along the same old path until the end!

I think it will be constant with the million prize, but not every week, but 5-6 times a quarter, let's be honest. 50% of players play with tickets, and these are candy wrappers, not cash, that's a big difference. If every player contributed $109 in cash, the tournament would be held every week.

I reckon @Andyreas that they will reduce the prizepool but will keep the name intact.

If if continues to overlay on a regular basis they barely have anuff player online on a Sunday these days to be meeting all Gtds.

Reductions is become the norm across all sites.

So many players can't play on PS for years, including my country - it's not about freerools... 😉
I like pokerstars but I dont like what they are doing
you can play on GG or 888

Yeah right like those freerolls made a difference. There were perhaps 150 players on the average platinum freeroll, and of those maybe 30 have stopped playing on the site as they were freeroll grinders. And these players probably never played Sunday millions so it makes no difference or 1 entry maximum.

not only that, because those 150 people spread bad news about ps and the effect is around 150,000

You won't be able to see them since these stupid regulations in germany but there plenty of freerolls for 11$ direct satties.
I reckon they will do anything they can to keep their flagship safe.
But I see a grim future for it if the numbers don't grow

The numbers just seemingly keep dropping. Pokerstars will fight and do everything they can to keep their flagship Sunday Million but in the end I think it will be gone and likely before this coming summer. I remember back when a direct buy-in use to cost $215.

Re: The numbers dropping I just requested a withdraw(to CIBC) earlier today of the majority of money I had on Pokerstars. My account only has $21 left in it. Moving to GG till spring and gonna play just MTT's. Just transferred some crypto(money) I had on another site to GG instead of bothering to cash it out. So that's one less player on Pokerstars that would normally be there.

As a 20+ year mainly Pokerstars player it's quite sad at what Pokerstars has become and the state the site is in.

Cheers!!!

everything in this world has a lot to do with those 159 or so cardchat players who were robbed of their pokerstars freeroll, took offense and of course did not stay silent and created such a negative aura for the pokerstars link that reduced players all over the world who play pokerstars

imagine if even just one person starts telling something bad to 10 others and everyone continues like that, then imagine how many people will already know what just one person said 1 to 10 to 100 to 1000 to 10000 = within 5 days 10K people will know

I think Pokerstars would like some U.S. players who could add to the numbers, that would solve the overlay issue.

It would be reasonable for a reduction in frequency, maybe to once a month, to make up for 6% overlay, but I would think Pokerstars can live with it since prizes given out in the Sunday Million would probably generate enough rake the following week to more than make up the overlay.
