The future of online poker is not very great I think.
Too many bots/stables that can not be controlled by the sites. I see accounts on leaderboards(esp. on GG Poker) that play almost 24/7.
No normal human can do that (shift woker stable or bots can).
So the control that real humans play will come more and more into place, but I think this will not happen soon,
because the poker sites love rake machines like bots or 24/7 stables.
Bot and AI driven trainings and aids will change the game dramatically for the so called recreational players that seem to not care what is going on in the poker evolution.
The "fun" factor of recreational players is a win here and there, but this is happens too rarely to keep them playing, so they will leave the sites.

AI seems like a problem for the future of online poker.

I really feel like a human cannot outplay a computer in such a mathematical game.
I don’t think poker is that mathematical. Math is the easy part. Most hands do no go to showdown. Poker to me is more a psychological warfare. Profiling your opponents has nothing to do with math and still this is paramount to beat the game.
Deep Blue in chess has been around for decades. While there are bots - more than we would like to think - there is yet no Deep Blue in poker. But as Mr. Dylan sings: It ain’t dark yet, but it’s getting there. Meaning: It is a question of time before an AI-driven computer can beat world class players. A Canadian Deep Blue is told to be very close to completing its mission.

One thing we can see already. People are fed up with sites that allow the use of third-party tools. In my view that is why we are seeing the decline of Stars and why a site like GG is increasing its foothold.

There is no fun in playing on a site where the full time semi-shark has your tendencies in his database - unless you use the same tools yourself.

Future of online poker requires leveling the playing field by disallowing the tools that give an edge to those who seek it, and it should be in the best interest of poker sites to follow this path.

However, the development that we have seen in the game during the past couple of decades is partially driven by the rules we still have in place. Allowing the use of sophisticated tools has increased the "arms race" and in exchange increased our overall understanding of poker. But this poses also a problem.

The gap between good players and those who are just finding poker is wider than ever. If we ever want to see the golden years of poker to return we need a site where the only tool that a player can use - is his brain.
True words. Actually there’s one indepedent pokerroom, that allows absolutely zero helping tools and software. The name is unibet Poker. The user interface is state-of-the-art. You can play from €4 to €400. No high stakes tables, let alone Nosebleed levels, To protect recreational players and Newbies, the site allows you to have 5 aliases. And you can furthermore choose 3 new aliases every day. Up to €100 the skill level is v e r y soft. There’s a lot of drifters from the sportsbook section which is amongst the top ten biggest worldwide. Unibet Poker is restricted to circa 15 European countries. Mainly the richest countries on the continent.

I think online poker will face more and more difficulties when Artificial Intelligence greatly enters our lives.
If you look at what artificial intelligence can do now, I’m even afraid to imagine what it will do in poker when geniuses teach it to play poker

The future of poker is bright and the online poker market is predicted to grow significantly in the coming years. This growth is driven by new developments such as mobile technology, live streaming and the growing popularity of tournaments. However, there are challenges, including legal and regulatory complexities and competition from other forms of entertainment.
Despite these challenges, opportunities abound, particularly in the technology space. AI-powered tools can help players improve their game, while virtual reality can create immersive and engaging experiences.
The possibility of a global online poker room like the pre-Black Friday era remains uncertain due to the evolving regulatory landscape. However, several online poker rooms operate in several countries and more may emerge in the future.
Overall, poker is a dynamic game that is constantly evolving, with new technologies shaping the way it is played. The future holds exciting possibilities for this beloved hobby.

Hooray for your bright and optimistic forecast. Wish I had the same beamimg perspective. Alas, I don’t. I am especially worried about the low number of online cash game player with an average of circa 27.00 players worldwide. Before Black Friday there would be a tenfold player pool compared to this shy number. Nothing indicates a steady growth. Thinking we can reach a level that resembles the peak years is an illusion imo. However, I don’t think AI will kill poker.

I think we will see the implementation of virtual reality with 3D glasses and audio chat so that players can transport themselves to a more immersive game, similar to live poker in a casino. In the case of dealers, they could be humans instead of robots to increase the sensory experience.

However, since the business world is much more focused on reducing costs, the professional will probably be replaced, especially because they could easily speak other languages and shuffle more quickly and accurately during the card distribution process.

Regarding the aspect of the game powered by artificial intelligence, i think that at first moment when there is a game between humans and machines, it seems that we will have less hand reading and more use of creativity during the games.

The biggest hurdle for the future of online gaming will be AI becoming more prominent in everything we do, which includes AI bots online at the tables. I think sites have to find a way to make sure that doesn't happen, maybe even to the point of banning 3rd party software as a whole, including HUDs and Trackers.

With technology it will be easier to cheat online as well as live, but it will also be easier to study poker with AI.

What does "wuth an average of circa 27.00 players worldwide" actually even mean? (seriously, I have no clue what you are talking about).

It means the average of online players according to the trusted site Pokerscout. Notice that this is cash game players
only. You can see the numbers of each Pokersite / Network. I just checked the numbers as of now. 26.900 in total. The two biggest sites, GG Poker and pokerstars have more than 90% of the total player pool on average.
The numbers of tournament players aren’t tracked. As a rule of thumb there’s about 6 times as many tournament players at any given time - circa 175.000 right now.

Best regards from Copenhagen, Denmark

I am probably one of the most negative people when it comes to the future of online poker. I also feel pretty negative about poker in general for the future. I live in a state that is supposed to be one of the keys to getting online poker to truly grow in this country yet my local representative says there's no chance in hell it will be happening. For the last 10 years it's been there but won't get even voted on. I do not believe poker will totally disappear I do believe it struggles will continue to grow over the years unless something changes. Until online poker becomes more acceptable and allowable throughout this country it is going to struggle and slowly die off in the live area. Living in the East Coast tournament poker is pretty much dead right now and when I was in Las Vegas this year seeing so many places with no poker rooms were the talk of more closing like the Sahara just about to do. It's kind of depressing and it's sad that it's come to this point because of in my opinion one man.

The future of poker will have the world series of poker and you will have other tournaments with the WPT but I see the continued decline of live poker and live poker rooms until we get down to probably about four or five Max in Vegas. We will still have the big poker series but I think the daily games for people who just want to play and have a good time are going to die off. Play now my favorite place to play near home his two tournaments a week one of them being a $500 minimum which is way beyond anything I can play as I'm not a professional. The other ones during the work week during work hours like that's going to help people who want to just play tournament. If you want to play cash I think it will continue to be there and live games but yet I still see these places starting to have less and less people going to it. Right now there are more private tournament games and there are in the casinos and even the cash games are starting to play out more in home areas.

Online in the future I have no idea where it will go. I do believe it will grow slowly but I also believe the idiots who have stopped this from ever being allowable for us have already destroyed the opportunity to make it what it was. If it comes back it better be sooner than later. It will always be around but I just see it getting smaller and smaller. I do hope I am very wrong with this.

I think that as long as there is the internet and people who like to play poker, the game will continue because even if some people don't play professionally, they play for leisure because they like the game, so I believe it doesn't have as many chances of ending.

How do you see the future of poker evolving? What challenges and opportunities lie ahead for the game? Will we ever see a global online poker room like we had pre black Friday? How will AI powered tools affect game play?

I think the biggest challenge is and will always be convincing the players that the games are fair and safe... Without that they will cease.

We already have Pokerstars so I think we can see international poker is here. I doubt you will have an international Poker Room run by a country because that would require diplomacy and it would be hard for any country to go cede the amount of income from such a room to another country.

AI would be a total disaster for the game when it comes to honesty and fairness. In it's current state there are no safeguards to stop cheating and rigging of the games.

It will probably become even more common than anything else in this digital world.
It's a shame because real poker is the live poker with real chips and real people.

Well, well, well. How can it then be, that we can buy real things with real money from online winnings?
Fact: $200 games online have better players than $500 in brick and mortar poker.

There are many things that can improve or worsen the game of online poker, we will not know what can happen, no one knows the future, but if things are done well from now on, it will be reflected in the future.

In my opinion online poker in the future should be more exciting than in the past, poker platforms should be more cosier for players than nowadays
because they make enough money with players and rewards programs or benefits are so poor for us.
I think the big boom years of online poker are over and its time for give aways to long time players who were part of the story for decades.

There wont be a global poker room because there will be always be more than one provider company which is chasing new poker players.

I think that in the future online poker may attract new players. So hopefully there will be bigger fields with better prizepools, but I don't see things coming back to a global room as we were used to.
AI and other tools will help to keep developing the game, maybe making bigger the gap between regulars and recreative.

I think that all players dream of a global player pool like that of pre Black Friday. It would be an incredible boost for the game and for poker in general. I also hope and wish and am convinced that the big cameras and the big operators will continue to make efforts to maintain a clean game environment without cheaters.

There will definitely be a change due to AI, it will become increasingly difficult to see through and recognise AI bots, as they will become smarter and smarter and will hardly differ from a human being. And organised crime will use them. As a normal player, it will become increasingly difficult to achieve success, e.g. from Cero to Hero, but this will always attract players despite the development. It's like a casino, you can win a lot with very little, which is what casinos and poker are all about.

I think in the future we will move towards peer based poker site that will be global and managed by the players themselves. The site won't be owned by anyone, there is no rake and the minimal needed to run the site like paying for servers, anti-cheat and payment methods will be paid by ads + premium service.

Cheaters will be banned based on tribunal system by volunteer moderators
