It's so annoying when you're at a live game and someone has to be constantly reminded action is on them because they have their nose stuck in their phone. Besides the fact that cheaters could use that to their advantage (collusion comes to mind) do you think there should be a uniform rule about when you can be on your phone at the table and if yes, what rule would yours be?
I fully support it. I am convinced that during a live game there should be a rule. All phones should be simply turned off, outside the connection and without access to the Internet. Those who really want to play should just be ready for such conditions.

How was the game of poker before the appearance of mobile phones, surely the game was more harmonious.

Banning phones will be a step backwards. Technology takes more and more of our lives and to ban it is to set yourself up for a failure. And who wants to sit for long boring hours in a tournament without a possibility to distract yourself a bit, while being completely isolated from the world. Not to say, that people might use phones for counting, making notes during the game play. I think banning them won't do any good to a live poker long term.

I don't know about the possible rules. Maybe if you are reminded of your turn to act 5 times, because you're sitting on your phone, you get into a sit out mode, just like online. Come back whenever you want, but you don't have reminders anymore 😀

And as for collusion. I think all the major cheating scandals lately didn't have phone in them, like someone being on the phone all the time, or am I wrong? 🙂

We have not a strict "No Phone" policy in our private poker group. People randomly check on the phone on soccer stats (I am from germany) during the evening. It is kind of rude to let people wait because your on the phone. This would not be tolerated by the group and the next event will be without you.

Of course it is, in my opinion phones should be banned from appearing on the table during a game. First, because players can extract information and distract other players. In my opinion, talking and looking on the phone should only be done during breaks. Yes, it's a bit extreme, but I think the game will go better for everyone in this case

Nowadays, i think it should be prohibited to use phones on the table. I think we have too much history of bad usage of cell phones to allow it these days, even though it don´t mean that cheaters will stop using electronic devices to cheat.

If they dont delay the game by using their cellphones, I see no problem at all. (I only play home games at a friend)
At a casino it can be completely different.

I've seen this many times in casinos, but I didn't care and neither did the casino management.
I think that if it were dangerous for us as players or for the casino, they would ban phones at the tables in general.

Cell phone is a big no for me. We're here to play and nothing else should get in the way.

It’s a topic where there is no right or wrong. At the end of day, a poker can be monotonous game for lot of people who are genuinely playing tight, and they use it as distraction. That is fine for me. Even reminding someone that action is on them once or twice is okay with me too but reminding them almost every other hand especially in the tournament is not cool for me. And the major no no would be how to ensure they are not into collusions; considering so many of these pro’s go to events as team or group. Having said all that, if there was a yes or no voting, I would have voted for no phones on the table; that would test people patience too as they want to keep their mind busy and might play hands which they generally don’t.

If you impose a general rule of no cell phones, I would think it's very good, but it's not something crucial, it only loses those who look at their cell phones, lose concentration... worse for those who use it...

I understand what you are talking about, these situations are familiar to me. Each person must understand for himself that he comes to play poker, and not use social networks or correspond with someone. I think if a player uses his cell phone and thereby delays the game, then he is showing disrespect for the other players and the working staff. To do this, there must be rules in each club; in such situations, the dealer or administrator makes a remark to the player, and if the remark is repeated, the game for this person ends, for example, for a day. If the situation repeats, you can limit the game for a longer period, for example for a month. It will not be possible to re-educate the players) we tried to do this in those clubs where I worked as a dealer and administrator. The only option is to ban a person from playing for a certain period of time.

this really hinders the other players and the table player himself.

for me this is a lack of ethics with others and a lack of seriousness in the game.

I understand the possibility of using a phone to cheat, but how can it distract other players?

I think that at no time should a cell phone be allowed on the gaming table. Any situation that disturbs the smooth running of the game is not good. The game of poker is pure concentration.

In my opinion talking on the phone and using a phone during a live game should be banned. First, it can distract other players, in addition, the player can do it with malicious intent, and of course the use of the phone can also be used for fraudulent purposes.

In my opinion, telephones should be banned because poker is now considered a sport and the athlete does not use their phone during the match.

No phones would be my preference. It can slow play ,disrupt any table pleasantries , and be used to gain unfair betting tables .

I agree with you, it's very annoying having to draw the player's attention to action. It's complicated to talk about punishment, but something like losing the action in the hand that occurs would be something viable, not to be something related to punishment in the stack.

If this rule were up to me, I would ban any use of the phone during a live game. Only the dealer can use the phone in order to call an ambulance for the players at the table in case of something :)

I vote for getting rid of the phones at the table. People managed to play live poker without any issues before the smartphone era.

Watching some people forced to do without their phones is like watching a dog with separation anxiety locked in a car and shredding the seats, steering wheel, etc.
