I've made 10 dollars in 2 months playing freerolls on pokerstars. Should I start playing cash games now or continue to play tournaments until I get my bankroll up a bit more?

You're played freerolls a long time, so move to cash games would be a mistake because will be difficult adapt to the game. A better start playing mttsng 0.25$ 45p, for your bankroll is enough, there is the game is very easy, a lot of weak players and the game is similar to a freeroll.

Good advise! Also, since you have been winning playing freerolls why rock the boat and keep playing them. Your bankroll could hit $50 without a hint of investment. Good luck!

Maybe not the answer you want to hear, but I would recommend:
- get a job!
- study about poker, to be ready to some reasonable limit
- deposit and start with 50$ bankroll

It will really save you a lot of time.
Of course you can train on some micro-micro limits, but proper study will give you more, then playing those.

I'm never going to invest even a cent of my own money, so you don't have to worry about that. The only thing I'm willing to invest is time and I don't mind investing lots of it.

Hi gklcap and welcome to Cardschat. Like has been said, stick to the freerolls and play the low buyin sit n goes. But as I always do with new members, I suggest you should check out Full Flush Poker. They have some nice freerolls everyday and a $500 one every Friday night. They are all worth playing and big enough that you can build a good BR. Also if you download the site from here, you will get a $100 freeroll every Monday night. Anyway, GL you you at the tables

I'm 18 and studying full time. So getting a job really isn't an option. I've been playing poker in home games from a very young age. So I'm pretty well versed in the basic concepts. It's just that I've never played online before. To be honest, if I knew about the existence of freerolls, I probably would've started playing much earlier. It probably sounds ridiculous but 50$ isn't actually a small amount where I come from because of the conversion rate. I mean, I could eat 3 meals a day for half a month with that amount, if I had to.

if freerolls is profitabe for u, then stay there. try to play freerolls at other poker rooms, not only PStars. with yr 10$ u can play some nice buy-in tourneys or sng's. but i dont think u need bigger bank for start. If u cant, so, start again with freerolls) GL

I've found these private freerolls that have at most 40 participants and have been playing them for the past 2 weeks. The prize structure is similar to the 45 man SNG-final table gets paid and first prize is 3$. So I figure there really isn't much point in paying 25c to play this tourney when I can play a similar one for free. But thanks for the advice anyway.

I'd take a 2nl shot playing very timidly and understand it's very likely I could felt my roll. I ran up a $0.75 freeroll cash on BCP to $50 so it's not impossible.
Also keep playing freerolls during the process.

I know that the hard and fast rule is to always buy in for the max amount to maximize earnings, but considering my roll, or the lack of it rather, should I maybe buy in for something like 1$?

I personally prefer to have 100 big blinds but if it makes you feel more comfortable I think most would buy in short. For the record, by timid I mean a few things that are hard to do. This includes only be willing to get in preflop with KK+. Don't overvalue top pair hands, overpairs, and draws on flops. For example, if someone check raises you and the flop is Kxx and you have AK fold. If you have a draw don't get crazy and go all in. Only time to feel good is 2 pair or better. Use pot control when in position. Also if you feel that a villian got there by the river its okay to fold a strong a hand. I know this seems lame but if you have that low of a roll you reduce your variance this way. Once you get to $25, in my opinion, is when you can afford to open up your game because now you have room for variance.

I actually might give those 45 mans a try. Got a .50c SNG ticket, played the 45 man and managed to come second in it. So bankroll is now up to nearly 15$(Yay!). The people at the final table were horrible players. I mean, nobody else was even trying to steal and one guy actually blinded out. If these games are that soft, then I'm definitely going to give it a try

With only $10, you'd be better off playing the slots than another form of poker.

Search online for articles on Bank Roll Management to get a better idea of the BR needed for various alternative games.

Of course, you might get lucky, and you'll need to, at either cash or mttsngs with your $10 but you should really keep grinding at the freerolls.

Lol. Then maybe I should take my entire roll and play a double or nothing or Spin & Go and shove every hand and see how that goes :p. Btw my roll is upto nearly 23$ now playing cash for a week or so.

Hey, very well done! :top:

Hope it lasts. :)

Do, however, consider BRM before moving up levels.

I'm the kind of player you like. I play almost only freerolls. I can not afford to play for cash and even more for their money. My salary is $ 80. Very rarely do I allow myself to play the (guaranteed) tournaments Bain less than $ 2. You play in the freerolls and collect money. Do not play in the cache. Free throw money. During the year I win up to $ 300.

I would seriouusly avoid the spin and go's.

You have earnt $10 playing freerolls so don't waste any $$ on a gamble.

I started playing just freerolls, and now have healthy BR's on 3 sites. I would play the $0.25 Mtt's and move up to $0.50 when you hit the $20 mark. With you being able to play on PS the fishies (world) are at your feet :D

I would not go anywhere near 2nl with a $10, wait till you have at least $40 if you wiah to play cash game, I personally prefer Stt's/Mtt's to cash games, but that's me :) For Mtt's I would use the 40x BI rule of if you want to be a BI nit like me then go for the 100x BI rule.

GL :)

Hi milka. Since you play freerolls, have you ever played at Full Flush Poker? If not it's worth taking a look at. Besides all the freerolls they already have, if you download FF from here, you will get the $100 CC freeroll every Monday night too. GL to you.

Don't worry. I was kidding about the Spin & Gos. No way I'm ever playing those. Isn't variance much more higher in MTTs than cash games btw?

we US players wish we could play on 'stars ; even grinding freerolls would seem a blessing . I would recommend entering free tourneys on other poker sites as well gklcap, since you seem to have found a nice niche .
