I think a pretty good option is to record a video, that is, a video of the game itself. I used to make such recordings regularly, and in a notebook I would mark the time and moments that were worth watching again, and then I would analyse my actions and those of my opponents. That's how I worked on my mistakes. This can be quite an effective method, but it requires some additional time.

For me, the game itself teaches, as you play more, you can notice patterns and situations that end up repeating themselves, and a more experienced and attentive look can take advantage of these situations.

Most poker courses are constructed logically. They take a pupil from A to B, and in the end the pupil has acquired some amount of skills.

It's like going to driving school. You know enough to be dangerous, but you are a master of none.

If we exclude all those overpriced, monthly charged, membership sites, the problem is that there is no obvious logical next step to take. The pupil is left on his own to survive.

What is the best way to continue learning so the pupil can build on the foundation he already has? And why do you think that?

Thanks to @Nafor for the topic idea!
I believe that you should play poker as often as possible and gain experience without any teachers.

I think the best thing to do to improve your game is to devote a certain amount of time each week to study. The study can include watching videos, reading books/articles, and doing quizzes/drills like on the Jonathan Little site or GTO Wizard drills. I also think taking notes of hand histories when you play and then discussing those hands with other players is the most helpful. However it is time consuming to record the hand histories in a way to view them with others so I tend to not do it enough. I am trying to get better at this but I've been taking a break this summer.

Hi :)
Analysing each game session, analysing your own decisions, right and wrong, can help you continue to improve your skills and even gain experience. In my opinion, self-analysis is the best solution for further improvement.

Courses are very good for learning game theory and the mathematical pillar. But to master the psychological part of the game you need volume of play and studying the game while playing. I know that there are players who, when they play online, watch movies and other things like that. This means they lose the chance to study the game. Even when we fold and give up the hand, we must continue in the game, evaluating the game profile of our opponents to learn how to read them.

I am retired now, but when I was in business the company that I worked for used Kaizen.
Kaizen is a Japanese business philosophy that focuses on continuous improvement of operations through gradual, methodical processes.
For me this involves using the CardsChat 30 day poker course. I completed the course a long time ago but I still go back and review the modules on a regular basis. I also watch youtube videos quite a bit.

The easiest way to improve is to put in plenty of hours playing but pay full attention . Take notes on your opponents and honestly analyze any of your own errors . Try not to repeat them . The next step is studying a few modern books on poker theory . And the final movve is paying for instructional videos and quizzes from a poker training site . It helps to have friends that want to work and talk about the game .

In addition to the basic courses (open ranges, odds...) I think the best way to learn is to have a tracker and review the games played to analyze the behavior of the players and know their tendencies .

It seems that everything is correct, except that it is difficult to find logic in online poker. :)
The best student is one who learns from his own experience.

When i first learned the game it was with my father and his hunting buddies but to reach the next level i would read some books watch different games.
You can also keep notes on people if you watch long enough you may even pick up their tells. Everyone has different methods of learning, but practice and study will always come first in my book. Good luck all ;)(y).

Took off 3 and a half years...First studied ranges all over again then went onto working on the video how to be successful poker player in 30 days....I think we always need some refreshers and both things are free on cardschat and also teach you strategy and why you should play certain ways etc...So im not learning anything new so to speak but im making sure my strategy is right and then you have to trust the process...This is the hardest part sometimes you can take a bit off and come back and light it up...Sometimes like right now for me you struggle...If I am getting in good making moves at right times for right reasons even though NOT winning at my expected level I know in time I will be successful...once you climb the mountain that confidence always is there....So the other thing and one of biggest things is to study those hands and ask yourself what could I have done different did I make the right move choice etc...answer honestly trust the process you will win over time :)

I think continuously playing is a great way. The cool thing about poker is you never stop learning. The more volume you put in will allow you to grow as a player and expand your game by giving you more experience in different scenarios. Also evaluate your losing hands (and even winning hands) to see what you can improve on.

I think one of the best ways to continue learning is to have a group of peers who you can discuss situations and poker ideas with, even if you disagree with them. I feel poker is a game where you can always continue learning and can discover new ideas to improve your game no matter how long you have been playing, and of the best things about having a group of peers (like Cardschat) to discuss poker with is that it's free!

I think that improving your poker skills, at the later stages of a player's development, is generally possible only through playing and introspection. You just have to play and try to become a better player in this way. You have to work on your mistakes and try to improve your strengths.

Continuous learning can be achieved with a hand analysis, e.g. on Cardschat or with friends or a personal coach. Constantly playing, e.g. in Cardschat freerolls, can also help you progress and improve.

Best way is to Keep Playing! The more you play, the more you learn from opponents, good bets vs bad bets, when to bid or fold, etc. There's no substitute for experience.

When a player is left to his own devices, the best way to progress is through his own play.

By carefully observing and analyzing the situations in which he folds, loses his hand, or is eliminated from the tournament, he can improve his game and continue to develop.

Maybe co study with one or more other poker players who take it seriously , poker buddies , i think this can benefit you more on the long run . Share knowledge , secrets , practise better , try new things , not repeating the same mistakes . If all these guys are good or pros , then it's even better. Many such roommates poker buddies have improved a lot their gameplay and started making a lot of money , some of them became world champions in wsop main event

Online Private lessons , from distance , prepaid , especially with unknown , can have no guaranteed better result . Many scammers are out there , pretending to be pros or successful , now playing the master , but if you see their total poker games or profits , you will understand how much masters or teachers they really are

Even with pros , well known pros , who have such poker lessons , I don't believe you can be benefited a lot . I never heard SB saying that one of these lessons helped him a lot , at least not sb very successfully . Maybe reading a book or watching online tables or games might prove to be more useful that a monthly poker lesson with SB else .

When starting out and playing poker, we all have the same and yet also different motivations, how we learn is equally the same.

As Martin Says - it can leave newbies thinking what way do i turn now?

I approach it from a perspective of why do i want to learn, is it for profitable reason, for fun, to be able to play as an equal with others/friends or maybe something else? Is learning part of the fun - hmm..not sure on that always as Poker as we know can be a very frustrating game with such variables.
The level at which we aspire to play at can take time and its how we use that time to develop and practice that can often make a difference to our end goals.

I found my best way of learning was in a live situation in pubs/clubs and casinos, it also offered a social dynamic to learning and realism, from this i developed a taste for online poker although in latter years this has decreased due to personal circumstances.
The learning never stops basically which is why i have returned back not only to CC but to live play, as corny or cringe as it may sound, the love of the game for me is live poker but online can be fun.

In poker, constant study and learning are essential to improving your game.

I have been opting to watch live broadcasts of professional Brazilian players. I believe this helps a lot, as we see the moves they make during tournaments, as well as comments on the plays they made.

I think it is a way to learn more!

I have been playing for 50+ years now and have tried watching a lot of videos and reading a lot of
books on poker but to me the only way to learn how to play poker is to play poker and learn from your mistakes.

I'd say that you have to keep reviewing and analysing your own game.
