Many people play for the atmosphere and the spirit of sports competition. It's just that winning isn't everyone's number one priority.:giggle:

Players who don’t win at poker often keep playing for the thrill, social interaction, and the belief they can improve. The game’s mix of strategy and chance is addictive, offering hope with every hand. Many enjoy the challenge, entertainment, or simply the dream of hitting a big win someday.

As a retiree I have plenty of time to spare, so no worries there. As primarily a Freeroll player, there is no fear of losing money, so it's all good. In the end it just comes down to enjoying the competitive aspect of the games themselves, and the personal challenge of improving my game.

I asked myself this question once and it is still a mystery to me.

It may just be a phase, the more you play, the more experience you will gain

Several reasons: 1) Interest in poker. 2) Hope for a big win. 3) Addiction to poker.

Wouldn't it be better to move on to something that gives returns for the time and effort that this game takes?
If you play for money and the income of $1-2 per day does not suit you, then of course you should find something better. If you play for the money and $10-20 per day is fine for you, then why look for something better?

Because poker is not always about money, for some it is a hobby like playing chess, but poker without money is not poker.

Of course, you should choose the activity that will be more profitable for you than others. For example, some people do knitting and thus have a fairly good income, some people just go to work, a bank or a factory and have a tucked away job, some people play poker and earn money. Everyone has their own capabilities and you need to choose a type of activity based on what you can do.

It's more of a hobby for me, and I only play micro tourneys and freerolls. Poker's fun so if I lose some money then it was worth it.

Yes, it is possible to make money playing poker, but it is important to understand that it is not an easy or quick way to get rich. Poker is a game of skill and luck, and it takes a lot of time and effort to become a winning player.

I think it's because they enjoy the game, and they don't care if they win or lose, they just want to have fun.

The competition...at 71 years old, I can't compete in tennis or golf anymore...but my size (5'1") and age don't make a difference in poker...I can still compete with those youngsters in their 60s! LOL

Many people play basketball and will never be in the NBA, many play football and never will be in the NFL. I think they keep playing because they have a love for the game of poker.
