I would tell him two more times that he should protect his cards better. If he starts to protect his cards better, fine. If he doesn't, I would tell the dealer about the situation. Even if I could I wouldn't look at his cards because for me poker is more than just money, it's a game of competition that has to be fair.
That said, I would consider it as cheating to look at his cards on purse. It's cheating in a passive way. Quite similar to finding someone elses wallet on the street and taking the money.

I'm a decent person, not a monk. If I already have warned the opponent of the fact that he is showing his hand and he keeps ignoring me, I probably would notice what he holds. I would never try to sneak a peek, but I would not bother to look away either.

Part of being successful in poker (just like life in general) is to think about various situations ahead of time and decide how you would react. When the time comes, whether you change your mind or not, you at least had a plan of action in mind beforehand.

So what would you do in this situation?

The young, aggressive cash player next to you isn't doing a great job of protecting his hand. The way he looks at his cards makes it really easy for you to see what he has. You quietly let him know to be careful, but he just laughs and tells you to worry about your own game. Would you keep looking at his cards when you get a chance? And do you think this is a form of cheating if you do look? Why or why not?

An old teacher of mine in high school used to say, "Right is right when nobody's right and wrong is wrong when everybody's wrong." It would be wrong to look and more importantly how would you feel if another player at the table caught you looking and accused you of cheating?

First, I'm just giving you a polite warning. If he's still looking, I can knock him into the ground

hello. I would try not to look at the cards looking the other way. But for example, coincidences in life I have to face him and I look at him and he keeps showing me the cards, I would take advantage of the situation without hesitation. Sorry I let you know

I have told many players sitting next to me that they were exposing their cards. I believe that it is unsportsmanlike behavior to do otherwise.

This is a form of cheating and can be seen as a deal between two players and if proven to be such then there would be consequences for both players respectively 🙂🙂🙂

I won't do any effort to avoid seeing his cards if he don't protect it, despite is not my kind of playing.

I hadn't even thought of that, probably because I don't cheat, and you are absolutely correct that it could be viewed as cheating by an observer. :)

Picturing a:
"Young, aggressive cash player next to" me to whom I quietly make a kind and sincere effort to helpfully advise him that it is really easy for me to see his hold cards  and he just laughs and tells you to worry about your own game.

Brings to mind the saying "youth is wasted on the young" (Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw / Some sources suggest that the phrase may have originated with Oscar Wilde).

Here, again, we have a unappreciative youth choosing to ignore a beneficial gift and who returns a kind gesture by showing indifference and rudeness.

Would you keep looking at his cards when you get a chance?
No.

And do you think this is a form of cheating if you do look? Why or why not?
Not exactly cheating but too close to it - So yes - cheating.
The "Young, aggressive cash player next to" me has let me know he could care less about me seeing his cards.
So that makes me seeing them part of 'his' game.

 However, while I do not think seeing his hold cards would be exactly cheating, seeing them is not part of 'my game'.
So I would take his advise - I would leave him to his fate - and I would look for a better, more enjoyable game. ;)
Best of Luck to you all, Gary :geek:

Once you informed him and he responds like that, I am definitely getting as much information as I can, it’s like someone keeping his cards face up, won’t you look?

I won’t like if someone shows me attitude after I try to help him.

O ya - forgot to mention ->
From "Phil Galfond On Why You Should Expect To Lose At Poker"
be it the rain, the lost bet, or the suckout by the donkey in seat 3, constantly remind yourself that being surprised by proverbial a-holes acting like a-holes, might just make you one yourself.

I think that cheating would be spying on his cards without him knowing...now if he places them in such a way that everyone can see them, it is his responsibility. What is true is that it is neither ethical nor okay to take advantage of this type of situation. greetings and good hands.

I find it very upsetting when a player goes all in each hand, and tells everybody what his cards are, before doing so.
This really happened many years ago. I could not play properly.

If this happen, I leave table. That player laugh at me when I want help him !
At least he don’t accuse of me of cheating cause I saw their card.
Better to stay away of that kind of player.
Looking at other card even if not well protected is cheating in my opinion.
Hey but that player should leave table, not me.

I play with friends and I always try not to cheat them, and on the one hand, considering that the opponent has to be more careful is part of the game. I wouldn’t look on purpose. but if they are holding their cards in a way where you can see the cards .. then all is fair in love war and poker . But I would definitely not try to look on purpose. 💁🏽‍♀️

I would seriously advise him again to pay more attention to this leak, and I think he would get more serious. But as you say he wouldn't be careful, so I wouldn't like to look at his cards, because I like fair play. I think it is a form of cheating. This makes you behave more responsibly. I would like to play based to my skills. If you look at his cards maybe it would be an information valuable but also it might cause a confusion to you, or you lose your focus to the game.

It would only be human nature to at least glance at the players cards. Whether you do it purposely or not.. I dont think anyone could help looking if you looked towards that player and the cards are exposed. I think it would be cheating the other players in the game. I think I would be cheating if i intentionally spyed the players cards and said nothing. As others have said, I would politely tell the player a couple more times to what they were doing, then, If the player ignores it, Tell others at the table or the dealer and have the player removed from the game. The reason? You never know what someone would actually be up to. Is that player in some way cheating by doing that? Or is that player just ignorant to the integrity damage thats being done to the game? Either way that player should be removed from the game period. If the player is not removed, then I would more than likely leave the game myself. IMO that would be the right thing to do.
