Like you all, I dislike those late registations - when I first started poker they were almost unheard of - every tournament was a freezeout. There was another anomaly when I played in Vegas - you could buy the add-on before you started!

I don't undestand the sites' love of late registrations - someone who plays a freezeout and gets knocked out quickly is very likely to then enter another freezeout, knowing that he wouldn't have to play for several hours, so the site would get two entry fees.

I don't like registering late for tournaments, especially if it's a bounty, but obviously the poker site should profit when more players join, perhaps that's the reason for so much late registration.

this is exactly why i late register into my $1 mtts last second. it really only works for small fields (for me) but, by the time i start most of the field is gone and 40-60% of the remaining players get paid. while i don't know the exact value i gain per individual mtt, knowing that i do is why i play an extremely nitty range to prioritize min-cashing first.

its it silly looking to play extremely nitty when i join for ~10 bbs? probably. but im also taking advantage of player error. such as players not adjusting to the mtt now playing as a freeze out instead of a re-entry, not paying attention to remaining stack sizes, and just making overall bad decisions that work in my favor without really having to do any work, at least until the bubble bursts and then i can make adjustments run deep. and, of course, and little bit of run good helps.

looking at my $1 stats, in 688 mtts, ~55.50% of my finishes are in the middle stages, which is on par for late registering. i also finish ~36.50% of the time in mid-late / late position, which includes the final table.

i cash in 26% of my mtts, which is on par with the percentage of players paid in the mtt. so, nothing special there.
  • ~180 cashes / 688 mtts
  • 93 final tables / ~180 cashes
  • 47 top 3 / 93 final tables
of course, this is only a small sample size for small field mtts, so it's not really impressive but it shows that late registering can be profitable, if you know how to take advantage of it and adjust properly.

Great example of why late regging can be a good strategy for +$$'s

I know of a low stakes cash game player/Coach (plays mostly 50nl these days but some 25nl too as well as a fair bit of $2/$5 live game) and he took a stab at playing MTT's for a bit. He played all of his games maximum late reg. and at a lower buyin than what he'd typically be playing. Once he'd studied & played for awhile, this strategy afforded him the opportunity to be able to mass multi-table. He suggested it's the only way he'd want to partake in micro/ Low stakes MTTs. And yes, he was successful at it but he returned to playing cash game.

Tournaments with more than one hour of late registration makes no sense at all.

My favorite tournaments are those without late registration.

It is very ugly to play a tournament that has many hours of late registration or a game that lasts 19 hours or more . ACR has these problems . Such short late registration period ?? Only 19 minutes ? Maybe they are freerolls , not normal games

late registration is not a problem for bigger tourneys, because of many reasons ppl might come late to the table. but the problem is rebuys, fishes throw money and join again and again.

I prefer tournaments with a short late registration period. I don’t like those tournaments with 2 hours of late registration, especially when playing online.

I don't like late registration because this way the race takes a long time, even if it goes well.

As I see it, poker sites are better off with late registrations, let's see: if as a poker room I create a tournament of I don't know 1K GTD and buy-in of $2.2 and without late registration it is not convenient for me to have few people register, that is, if the number of people who register does not meet the GTD, it is the room who provides the rest and I suppose that in a certain way it is a loss for them, if you look, there is a tournament where late registration is something like 5 hours or 4h 30m something like that

It's easy, the longer the registration time, the more players play; The more players play, the more money the prize has; and the more money the prize has, the more money the poker platform earns

I can understand the reasoning for sites to have late registration, but having just ground through 2 and a half hours of late reg, it feels like the tournament has now started. I don't mind if someone wants to buy in for 10000 chips when I am sitting at 50000, but I'm not sure I would do it myself. I will generally only late reg myself if it is very early in the tournament and I just missed the start.
