DiMaggio, Musial, Hornsby and a few others all belong in the conversation but the babe is still the GOAT.

Weird that poker hasn't been mentioned much. Just goes to show that we don't place it alongside conventional sports.

And Jones is great but he hasn't had long enough to prove himself as the greatest. Anderson is closer than Jones TBH.

I think there is plenty of reasoning for Jones being better. He is a more complete fighter - wrestling/wrestling defence - and he has never really been challenged. He was almost submitted once, but after that he dominated easily. Anderson Silva has one legitimate loss, and Jones doesn't have any, and Anderson has had numerous fights where he was almost beaten. And Jones has been dominant over all the top competition since he was under 20. Basically, he's been the best since he was 18 and is improving every fight. Not that I don't like AS, but I think Jones has much more potential to be G.O.A.T. Anyway, that's my reasoning, but there's ample reasoning for AS or GSP too IMO.

Oh yeah I have no doubt Jones has more potential. But you don't judge the greatest of all time based upon what could be, you base it upon what is. I only said Anderson was closer because he has been in the game longer. If Jones keeps up then he will definitely surpass Anderson and probably even Fedor himself.

As it stands though, Fedor is the greatest to have ever fought.

GOAT shouldn't be below average and a liability in one of the biggest aspects of his play...

In Babe's case, fielding.

Winning over 100 games and having a stellar postseason pitching interlude makes up for it SOMEWHAT, but not to the extent where he could eclipse people like Mays and Gehrig and Hornsby(good call)....

I have Babe in my top 5...so it isn't like we are in big disagreement.
