As others have mentioned, this is an impossible task to name just one. For me personally, I would discount team sports.

I noticed not many have mentioned a female, Serena Williams should definitely be on anyone's list, as well as Simone Biles.

Best sportsman .... hard to say! It should include sports performance with social life! A sportsman are public images, examples to follow in everything they do in life, every day! Or so it should be!

But in my opinion athlete need to be global social hero for young bloods.

Gordie Howe, he played 5 decades of professional hockey, i dont think there is anyone else out there that has played at a high level for so long!

This is such a loaded question, because it is hard to judge overall talent based on a single sport. You could say Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky, Sydney Crosby, Mike Tyson, etc. But if I had to pick the one person who had the most attributes at the highest level I would go with Muhammed Ali - Fast, accurate, great stamina, very intelligent, and extremely charismatic. Also, has done so much in his life, and with his life, that he is an icon to many.

He is also one Athlete, that no matter where in the world you are from, if you say his name 99% of people know exactly who you are talking about.
