My favorite sport is shooting ever since I fell in love with it sixty one years ago at summer camp when I was nine. I've enjoyed it both recreationally and competitively for my entire life. I have: earned a varsity letter on the rifle team at Mt. Hermon Academy in the winter of 1969, shot in the RI Small Bore Rifle League for three years in the 1990s, shot sporting clays competitively during the 1990s and early 2000s.
More recently I've become an NRA certified Range Safety Officer and Handgun Instructor. I got those certifications because I felt it was time for me to give something back to the sport I've loved for so many years. I volunteer at field days and seminars for new shooters, and others specifically for women or youth. The picture below was taken last Saturday while I was familiarizing a woman with the operation of a handgun.
She had never even held a gun before and did and excellent job of safely handling the firearm and hitting the target during the live fire portion of the lesson. It is a very rewarding experience for me.
