Ok, so I the main reason I keep $$ on bodog is so I can lose it at their Sportsbook every fall (win at poker, lose on football). I can't resist putting a few $$ down each week on some crazy 4-team Parlay or just betting a few games or whatever. That's all well and good but the problem is that I generally suck at picking the right games for the best return.

Anyway, just thought I'd start a thread to see if anyone else enjoys betting the NFL and maybe to get some advice from those who are better at picking the games than myself.

So post your favorites for the week 1 games (ATS of course). So far I like Tenn getting 6 1/2 tomorrow night on the road and Cincy to cover over the Broncos on Sunday (so smart $$ go the opposite way if you're playing along at home).

Im thining about putting some money on Minnesota. There only a -4 line and I think if Brady Quinn starts the Vikings will win by at least 14 points.

im a bit biased but i think the cincy game is a good bet. cincy seems to be gelling, and the broncos have an unhappy wide receiver, decent running game, but im not too impressed. bengals will be fired up and should cover for sure.

I agree with the picks of Cincy and Minnesota at -4.

I'm not a huge fan of taking overs on wide spreads but I'm thinking about taking New Orleans to win by more than the 13 they're getting. They're defense will be improved this year with the addition of Darren Sharper who is used to playing Detroit 2x a year. However Pierre Thomas is iffy so I've started wembling on this one.

I like the thread idea, but find making any judgments during the first two weeks of the season worse than throwing darts blindfolded, so I stay out of picking until week 3.

It's times like this when my husband should be a member here. :p He's great at picking the right bets for NFL games. It has bought us a lot of things (new computer, big screen tv, giant bbq grill--yeah, he won it, he gets to pick out guy stuff with the winnings :(). Last two seasons though he hasn't done so well, due to some really crazy games that went totally unexpectedly. Pretty much break even.

I think I've gotta go with NL, that the first couple weeks are pretty much a crapshoot. But my husband will even go so far as to check weather reports, etc. to bet on things like the over/under points.

Since the demise of BoS, he's been making bi-monthly trips up to Tahoe during the NFL season to do his betting. How do you like the sportsbook on Bodog WV? Have you ever made any withdrawals, etc.?

Normally, I take the wait and see approach on the N.F.L. and College ball in the first 2 weeks to see what I am working with but 6.5 is a good play on Tenn tonight.

Post some of his picks here once the season gets going. I know I could use the help. :deal:

You can PM me the winners since he doesn't post here. :)

I like the sportsbook at Bodog. It draws from my poker room $$ there and I have made several withdrawals from them in the past. I use it to bet the NFL and the occasional UFC fight. Never had any issues.

I think it helps that he plays in at least two serious fantasy leagues, so he's always up on injuries, etc. as well. The last few years he's gone to Tahoe, he's had to go up the day before, and I think that throws him off, since he can't make up-to-the-minute decisions (like injuries, etc). I'll have to let him know about Bodog and get him set up.

I like the Minnesota and Baltimore, but with my luck you're better picking the opposite.

Baltimore's got to cover too big a number (13) for a team that probably won't score very well.

This week I took:

Tenn +6.5
Atlanta -4
Cincy -4
Minn. -4.5

The cincy game had a bad beat ending that was worthy of Full Tilt.

Who says there's no luck in sports....

The Broncos got a miracle, but cincy hadn't covered the spread before the lucky catch.

Ok WV, how about this.

Since I am also a reformed football gambler { which means , Yes, I lost alot more than I should have and quit before it got ugly} I have started a new thread here for Pro-Football addicts who want to bet, just not with real money.

Each week using the lines from www. footballlocks . com/nfl_lines.shtml
{copy and paste and take out the spaces} you'll be able to pick some games here. I'll start everyone with $1000.00 and i'll keep score of winnings and losings.

We'll do basic wagering.

Against the spread { No moneylines }
Teasers 2 teams for 7 points {Ties Lose}
Teasers 3 teams for 9 points {Ties Lose}

Parlays
2-Play Parlay: 13/5
3-Play Parlay: 6/1
4-Play Parlay: 10/1
5-Play Parlay: 20/1
6-Play Parlay: 40/1

When doing you picks, please make it a simple as possible. This will make it easier to keep track of.

example: Patriots -11.5 $100
KC - Tenn parlay $100
Minnesota - Under teaser $100

After you have made your wagers , feel free to tell everyone why you think you'll take home the cake. Anyone can join until week 4, then I'll close it off. This is just for fun, but who knows. I may come out of retirement if someone gets on a roll.
