No.

It's not a sport, it's a game.

This is a good question...poker requires strategy, intelligence, study your opponents, understand how the game is going on...like other sports.
So, what´s your oppinion...should poker be an Olympic Sport?
Remember that: prizes will be medals, worldwide fame, but no money (you will receive money only if your country´s olympic committee or your country´s government do that).

No poker shouldn't be a Olympic sport.

Nope, the level of variance/luck for the results of one event make the awarding of medals a celebration of pure chance.

I don't think poker tournament organizers want to have to follow the rules stipulated by the International Olympic Committee. Also, poker is sustainable on its own and, like eSports, it's probably best if it stays independent.

This will never happen for a variety of reasons - mainly if we start entering card games into an historic event like the Olympics - where does it end? We will have tiddlywinks next and monopoly and god knows what else lol.
Maybe i am old fashioned but i associate olympics with athletic ability, its hardly athletic picking up a pair of cards lmao.

No debate for me, the very idea of this makes me laugh.

Do the mind-games have such a big contest like Olympics?
Cause if they do, poker definitely could be included. If they don't, there're a huge gap for them.

I don't think so, although poker is mentally demanding, I still think not.

Olympics? Kidna stretching it. There should be some sort of world tabletop tournament with various games like chess, backgammon, poker etc.

You can deny it as much as you want, but poker IS a gambling game. Imagine poker without any money involved, would it be any fun?
Plus you have to play for really long time to eliminate most of luck factor.

Considering those, its simply no sport for olympic games. Popular or not, its just does not belong there.
Plus, face the reality, its not even that much popular to watch on TV.

I dont think poker will ever make an appearance at the Olympics for a few reasons. The biggest reason against is poker is gambling.. justify it anyway you like it’s gambling and the ancient old heads at the IOC are strongly against it so very doubtful

This is a question that keeps getting asked.

No, poker is not a sport.

Does this look like an athlete to you.

So your suggesting the younger, more forward thinking IOC members might favor adding poker?:eek: I do realize the I in IOC does not stand for intelligence, but sheesh. Maybe shooting Craps for the winter olympics will be next.

Poker should never be an Olympic sport.

Even if we consider it a sport, should it be an Olympic sport? That's the main question 'cause there are thousands of sports out there, but only a few of them are Olympic sports.

Olympic motto:
Faster, Higher, Stronger - Together
All Olympic sports are physical sports. The mental sports that lack physical activity don't fit. The eSports involve a lot more physical activity than poker, but they are not there yet. That will change in the future, especially considering how the virtual and augmented realities can spawn many physically demanding eSports. On the other hand, it's not easy to turn poker into a physical sport without changing it completely or by making it last too long for an Olympic event.

Last but not least: although poker is far from a game based entirely on chance, the luck factor is too strong for a short competition like the Olympiad. The luck has an effect on many of the Olympic sports too, but most would agree that it's nearly impossible to win by luck alone, while in poker you can do that.

An interesting question! When it comes too sport you might not think of poker. But it actually is a sport. The Olympics are for amateurs, as far as I know. But nowadays you don't know anymore. My answer to the question would be: yes. Why? Each sport can be an olympic sport, so yes why not poker?

Not poker but I can picture Mario Cart, Gold Medallist in Mario Cart gets this type of medal instead of those boring ones.

My answer is NO! In short distance almost everything is decided by luck. Sports shouldn't be like that
